Technology for Ontological Engineering Lifecycle Support

The research is partially supported by Russian Foundation for Basic Research (grants 06-01-81005 and 07-01- 00053)Presented paper describes software system project ONTOLINGE-KAON that provides technological support for the whole lifecycle of ontological engineering. The main stress is put on the evaluation of maturity and quality of ontologies and on the usage of ontologies with the help of automated generation of knowledge portals, based on ontologies. Possibility of creation of knowledge portals built on top of ontologies can become a big step forward in the field of e-learning. El género Rhaponticum en el Este de Asia.

6p.[EN] The genus Rhaponticum in East Asia has always been a taxon for discussion. Rhaponticum carthamoides from East Siberia comprises three subspecies: carthamoides, chamarensis and orientale. Even though they differ in morphology, they do not have isolated areas. Rhaponticum satzyperovii was recently described and its author pointed out its affinity with Rh. uniflorum. Plant height, stem indumentum, and radical and stem leaf dissection were signaled as the diagnostic characters. Our present study on living and herbarium specimens of Rh. satzyperovii shows that the diagnostic characters are not consistent. The species area was also claimed to be an argument for considering Rh. satzyperovii a distinct species. This area covers the south of the Primorye Province in the Far East of Russia with some locations in the adjacent Jewish Autonomous Region and in China. In our study, the area of Rh. satzyperovii is found to be within the area of Rh. uniflorum and thereafter they turned out to have no disjunction. In East Asia, Rh. uniflorum is characterized by a wide range of morphological variability. We suggest that Rh. satzyperovii should be included within Rh. uniflorum without any taxonomic rank.[ES] discutido. Los caracteres diagnósticos fueron la altura de la planta, el indumento del tallo y las divisiones de las hojas basales y caulinares. Nuestro estudio de plantas vivas y muestras de herbario de Rh. satzyperovii muestra que los caracteres diagnósticos no son consistentes. El área de distribución también se argumentó para considerar Rh. satzyperovii una especie diferente. El área cubre el sur de la provincia de Primorye en el extremo Este de Russia con algunas localidades en la adyacente región Autónoma Judía y en China. En nuestro estudio hemos visto que el área de Rh. satzyperovii está dentro del área de Rh. uniflorum y por lo tanto no cabe hablar de disyunción. En el Este de Asia, Rh. uniflorum se caracteriza por un amplio rango de variabilidad morfológica. Successful Treatment of Recalcitrant Hidradenitis Suppurativa with Adalimumab

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic disease that affects the apocrine gland-bearing regions of the body. The etiology of this disorder is poorly understood, but most likely is a complex process involving follicular apocrine occlusion with subsequent perifolliculitis. Many treatment options have been reported with varying degrees of success, including topical and oral therapy and surgical procedures. Recently, TNF-α antagonists have been reported as effective therapy in a few patients. We report here a patient who initially responded to infliximab but developed an infusion reaction to this medication. After subsequent treatment with adalimumab, the patient's disease improved dramatically and has been maintained under excellent control for over 15 months. We propose that TNF-α inhibitors, particularly monoclonal antibody based agents, are a viable treatment option in patients with severe, recalcitrant HS and that a patient may be safely and successfully treated with the fully human monoclonal antibody adalimumab in cases in which the chimeric monoclonal antibody infliximab therapy is not tolerated

On triangle-free graphs maximizing embeddings of bipartite graphs

In 1991 Gy\H ori, Pach, and Simonovits proved that for any bipartite graph $H$ containing a matching avoiding at most 1 vertex, the maximum number of copies of $H$ in any large enough triangle-free graph is achieved in a balanced complete bipartite graph. In this paper we improve their result by showing that if $H$ is a bipartite graph containing a matching of size $x$ and at most $\frac{1}{2}\sqrt{x-1}$ unmatched vertices, then the maximum number of copies of $H$ in any large enough triangle-free graph is achieved in a complete bipartite graph. We also prove that such a statement cannot hold if the number of unmatched vertices is $\Omega(x)$

Cryptococcal choroiditis in advanced AIDS with clinicopathologic correlation.

PurposeTo describe a case of disseminated cryptococcal meningitis with multifocal choroiditis and provide optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings correlated with described histopathology in a patient with advanced acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).ObservationsThe patient was a 54-year-old man with AIDS who presented with dyspnea and headache followed by acute vision loss. OCT demonstrated a lesion with a small area of fluid that was limited by a more prominent and irregular external limiting membrane with underlying nodular choroidal thickening, mild RPE disorganization, and hyperreflectivity of the overlying photoreceptor layer. Patient was found to have disseminated cryptococcal infection and passed away despite aggressive therapy. Autopsy was performed including bilateral enucleation and a Cryptococcus lesion was confirmed on histopathology.Conclusion and importanceThis case highlights the clinical, imaging, and histopathologic findings of cryptococcal choroiditis and provides a review of the updated treatment recommendations for disseminated infection in a patient with advanced AIDS. Although currently fundoscopy has proven most useful in directing the diagnostic algorithm in choroiditis in the setting of advanced immunosuppression, OCT may provide insight into the spread of Cryptococcus within the eye

Counting Unions of Schreier Sets

A subset of natural numbers $F$ is called a Schreier set if $|F|\leqslant \min F$ (where $|F|$ is the cardinality of $F$). Let $\mathcal{S}$ denote the family of Schreier sets. Alistair Bird observed that if $\mathcal{S}^n$ denotes all Schreier sets with maximum element $n$, then $(|\mathcal{S}^n|)_{n=1}^\infty$ is the Fibonacci sequence. In this paper, for each $k\in \mathbb{N}$ we consider the family $k\mathcal{S}$, where each set is the union of $k$ many Schreier sets, and prove that each sequence $(|(k\mathcal{S})^n|)_{n=1}^\infty$ is a linear recurrence sequence and moreover, the recursions themselves can be generated by a simple inductive procedure.
