Polish geomorphological research in the Eastern Carpathians and the significance of Bieszczady National Park in the protection of inanimate nature
The paper describes Polish geomorphological research in the Eastern
Carpathians mainly prior to World War II. Special attention is paid to the
work of geomorphologists in the area of glacial relief recognition. The state of
geomorphological research in the Bieszczady Mts was presented to a large extent in
Volume 19 of the Roczniki Bieszczadzkie. Finally, the paper discusses the tradition
of environmental protection in the Eastern Carpathians as well as significance of the
Bieszczady National Park in the protection of inanimate nature
stresowymi a chorobą somatyczną.
wobec własnej choroby i sposób jej przeżywania emocjonalnego.
do poprawy stanu zdrowia. W obszarze tych zachowań obserwuje się zróżnicowane i zindywidualizowane
style działania. Dowiedziono, że najkorzystniejsze efekty przynoszą zachowania
aktywne, związane z poszukiwaniem informacji i realnym odnoszeniem ich do własnej
sytuacji, nastawione na kontrolę stanu rzeczy i przezwyciężenie choroby. (Folia Cardiologica

Conservation of inanimate nature in interwar Poland (1918-1939) and in south-eastern Poland and western Ukraine today
The first section of the paper describes activities related to the conservation of inanimate nature in pre-war Poland, with a focus on its south-eastern territories. The chapters which follow present examples of the stepwise process of creation of national parks and reserves, while the final part discusses efforts taken to conserve the non-living nature of the study regions within the borders of Poland and Ukraine after the Second World War. The article emphasises that the idea of nature conservation inculcated in the study areas 100 years ago by several generations of naturalists is still being cultivated and developed
Alzheimer’s disease — new strategies of treatment
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease, which is the main cause of appearing dementia in the elderly. The reason of Alzheimer’s disease is multifactorial. However, it is considered that the main mechanism of its development is the accumulation of beta-amyloid and phosphorylated tau protein in brain tissue. For the time being, AD is an incurable disease. The pharmacological treatment only relieves the symptoms. Therefore, the researchers are working on the invention of causal treatment. The current studies are focused on immunotherapy and disposal of excess beta-amyloid from the organism
Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in the prevention of affective disorders. Selected epidemiological data concering the use of omega-3 in the prevention of affective disorders
This article is an overview of epidemiological studies suggesting that deficit in dietary-based omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids may make an etiological contribution to mood disorders (major depression, bipolar disorder and seasonal affective disorder). Anthropological and epidemiological data indicate that humans evolved on a shore-based diet with abundant seafood and few calories from seed oils. In contrast, typical Western diets are now nearly devoid of adequate seafood and have excessive linoleic acid. Thus, high dietary intakes of omega-6 fatty acids may cause a shift toward the proinflammatory thereby promoting the pathogenesis of many illnesses such as cardiovascular diseases and depression. Safety profile of EPA/DHA have been shown. Risks of exposure to environmental toxins (mercury, dioxins) from large fish consumption are substantially reduced through purification processes used to concentrate fish oil supplements. In the end, authors suggest further research needs to be done to determine the best recommended doses of supplements of omega-3. Limited clinical data with rapidly growing support of laboratory and epidemiological studies, indicate omega-3 fatty acids as may play a role in the prevention and management of depression
Inert Dark Matter and Strong Electroweak Phase Transition
The main virtue of the Inert Doublet Model (IDM) is that one of its spinless
neutral bosons can play the role of Dark Matter. Assuming that the additional
sources of CP violation are present in the form of higher dimensional
operator(s) we reexamine the possibility that the model parameters for which
the right number density of relic particles is predicted are compatible with
the first order phase transition that could lead to electroweak baryogenesis.
We find, taking into account recent indications from the LHC and the
constraints from the electroweak precision data, that for a light DM (40-60
GeV) particle and heavy almost degenerate additional scalars and
this is indeed possible but the two parameters most important for the strength
of the phase transition: the common mass of and and the trilinear
coupling of the Higgs-like particle to DM are strongly constrained. and
must weight less than GeV if the inert minimum is to be the
lowest one and the value of the coupling is limited by the XENON 100 data. We
stress the important role of the zero temperature part of the potential for the
strength of the phase transition.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures, minor chnges, comment on h-->2gamma adde
