Töö suhteline osakaal õpetajate elus on viimase 40 aasta jooksul astmeliselt kasvanud. Ettepanekuid kooli ja hariduse ümberkorraldamiseks on esitatud üha rohkem, niisamuti on suurenenud muutuste mõju käsitlevate uuringute arv. Siinne uurimus võimaldab meil keskenduda mõningatele keerulistele probleemidele, mis peituvad uue koolireformi algatustes. Lääne ühiskonna kuldaja lõpus, 1975. aastal võttis Lortie Ameerika õpetajate ja haridusteaduslike uurimuste seose kokku järgmiste, tänini kehitavate sõnadega: "Kooliharidus on ettekirjutuste järgi mahukas, ent kirjelduse järgi väikesemahuline. Refrações históricas e culturais nas transições educacionais recentes: o exemplo dos países europeus do antigo bloco socialista

Trinta anos após a queda do bloco soviético, ainda persiste uma retórica de diferenciação e polarização discursiva entre os padrões educacionais ocidentais e não ocidentais. Tal retórica ofusca uma semelhança potencial, ou homogeneidade, entre os diversos contextos dominantes e marginalizados. Variações regionais, locais e pessoais são prematuramente atribuídas a diferenças culturais fundamentais, embora muitas vezes mal fundamentadas. Procuramos apresentar e resumir preliminarmente os entendimentos existentes quanto à refração na educação e na pesquisa social. Usada esporadicamente, mas raramente definida, a metáfora da refração apresenta: (a) uma multiplicidade de pontos de vista como incentivo à pesquisa social; (b) um progresso científico não relativista como valor final para a compreensão da realidade social; (c) uma abordagem equilibrada em relação à homogeneidade e heterogeneidade na pesquisa social; (d) uma orientação substancialmente histórica para analisar a homogeneidade e a heterogeneidade. Refraction as a tool for understanding action and educational orthodoxy and transgression

In this paper, we attempt to further develop the concept of ‘refraction’ (GOODSON &amp; RUDD, 2012; RUDD &amp; GOODSON, 2014). Refraction is a conceptual tool intended to support complex and rich methodological and theoretical explorations of educational discourse, systems, policies and practice. It emphasises empirical investigation at the supra, macro, meso and micro levels, providing simultaneous analysis of both structure and agency. From our perspective, refraction is an attempt to provide a more holistic analysis that considers the interconnectedness between structure, agency, ideology and histories and beliefs. We attempt to highlight the ‘axes of refraction’ in relation to UK waves of reform, in order to illustrate the various foci for analysis and spaces and historical moments of refraction
