    Knowledge about users must beat the basis of planning, designing, and modifying new or pre-existing library services. The new environment of academic libraries implies changes in many aspects, including the creation or reorganization of research support services. In this paper it is analyzed the interest in user studies at the context of the research support services planning at university libraries. A model is proposed to accomplish the studies on researcher users, exemplified in the case of the University of Coruña, combining techniques of bibliographic research, interviews and surveys. As conclusion, a set of recommendations and thoughts that support this approach from the methodological point of view is given

    [Resumen] Se realiza una revisión del actual contexto de las bibliotecas universitarias, incidiendo tanto en los cambios operados en el entorno competitivo de la universidad que otorga una creciente importancia a la función investigadora, como en la exigencia de que las bibliotecas demuestren su valor y rindan cuentas de su acción. Se analiza el papel de los servicios bibliotecarios de apoyo a la investigación como un elemento clave para que las bibliotecas muestren su capacidad para alinearse con los objetivos de la universidad y para que ocupen una posición relevante en las políticas institucionales de investigación. Se concluyen los principales retos, oportunidades y herramientas de las bibliotecas universitarias a este fin.[Abstract] A review of the current context at university libraries is made.     Marca personal en entornos académicos: una perspectiva institucional = Personal branding in academic environments: an institutional perspective

    This study addresses the concepts of reputation and personal branding and how they fit into academic environments. A roadmap model for the build-up researchers’ personal brands is proposed as a methodological guide, which underlines the eed of reflection and definition of goals prior to take part in relationship environments, both online and offline. The specific characteristics of academic digital ecosystems, their relations with personal brands and their consequences are explored in depth. As a conclusion, reflections are made on the role that universities and, within them, libraries can play in creating personal brands as key for managing their own institutional reputation

    Academic library oriented to research: proposal for a user centered service model from the marketing perspective. This work has as goal the study and evaluation of University libraries role in the accomplishment of the University mission towards its research activity. For this purpose, the research function and its incidence in the competitive evaluation systems are analyzed, spotlighting the rankings. The paradigm change in the management of the University Libraries, where the performance is more focused in the support services for research, is highlighted. This University services are characterized, placing the study in the context of the Universities global strategy for research. Two main groups of Spanish Universities are looked into from a strategic and operative standpoint. Researcher are examined as the corner stone of this research support services both from an informative perspective, including an study on the digital identity management, and their link with the library as well as librarians role in this context. Moreover, this work develops a practical chapter studying the real situation in A Coruña University, its services, its library and the defining traits of their researchers. A methodical proposal is developed based on marketing foundations, being applicable to other librarian contexts, in which is emphasized in the need of an holistic view of the services for research and the philosophy and the technique from marketing are applied from a strategic and operative standpoint

    Sci-Hub, a challenge for academic and research libraries

    Sci-Hub emerged into the field of scientific communication in 2011 as a platform for free access to scientific papers. It is the most popular of the so-called shadow libraries, systems that overcome the limits of legal access to scientific publications, standing apart from the open access movement. Besides from the media coverage that has served to boost its popularity, several studies reveal the impact of Sci-Hub among researchers, who have embraced this initiative. Sci-Hub has revealed new forms of access to scientific information, affecting academic and research libraries that cannot remain on the sidelines. This study addresses the Sci-Hub phenomenon and its implications for academic and research libraries from different points of view, through a bibliographic review and an analysis of examples of action

    [Resumen] Se presentan los resultados de un estudio sobre la situación de la identidad digital en la comunidad investigadora de la Universidade da Coruña (UDC) Se toma como universo los docentes que figuran en el catálogo de investigación de la universidad y se examina su presencia en Orcid, ResearcherID, Scopus Author, Google Scholar Citations, ResearchGate y Mendeley. Los resultados reflejan que los niveles deben ser mejorados pero, en comparación con la bibliografía consultada, pueden valorarse como positivos. Se reflexiona sobre el papel que deben asumir los investigadores, la biblioteca universitaria y la institución.[Abstract] The results of a study on the situation of digital identity of the research community of the University of A Coruña are presented. The universe has been established with the faculty members listed in the university’s research catalog, and their presence in Orcid, ResearcherID, Scopus Author, Google Scholar Citations, ResearchGate and Mendeley was examined. The results show that the presence should be increased, but compared with others found in the literature, it can be assessed as positive. The role that researchers, the university library and the university must assume in this issue is suggested

    Digitization of the Architect Antonio Tenreiro Brochón's legacy

    Antonio Tenreiro Brochón (A Coruña 1923 - 2006) is one of the key figures in the recovery of modernity that occurred in Spain from the 1950s onwards, when the autarchic period following the Civil War was overcome and a new generation of architects joined the profession, detached from previous historicist languages and reintroducing modern principles in a critical and reflective manner. As a result of his professional activity, carried out between 1951 and 1981, a documentary fund was generated which he himself donated to the City Council of A Coruña in 2001, being preserved since then in the Archivo Municipal de A Coruña. In 2017, Fundación Alejandro de la Sota proposed the incorporation of this legacy into “Archivos de Arquitectos del Siglo XX”. This experience has allowed Tenreiro Brochón most outstanding projects to be available on the web. The aim of this study is to assess and analyse the reflection process carried out for the documentary selection, as well as other critical decisions of both a theoretical and technical nature taken in the same. It is proposed here as a model of interdisciplinary action in the case of professional archives, concretised in the archives of architects' offices

    Is ORCID your ID? A case study at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto

    Author disambiguation has been a key component of scientific communication since the mid-19th century, and now more than ever. This paper discusses the use of ORCID as a digital identity platform in Social Sciences and Humanities, by analysing the adoption of ORCID in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto using a manual-qualitative method. The results show a discrepancy between the use of ORCID as an ID and as an author record. Even though 90.4% of the sample studied had an ORCID iD, the records were found to be incomplete for disambiguation purposes. The 'Also known as' field was used by only 31% of the 170 profiles analysed, less than half of the profiles had completed the 'Country' field and the 'Peer review' field is hardly used. An important finding is the inconsistency in affiliation information recorded in the 'Employment' field. We verified that keeping profiles updated and complete requires interoperability and the role of ORCID-trusted organizations, such as the FCT in Portugal. In conclusion, it was found that a university's institutional strategy, the organizational culture and a mediation process will help improve the correct adoption of ORCID
