Counting Lines on Quartic Surfaces
We prove the sharp bound of at most 64 lines on complex projective quartic
surfaces (resp. affine quartics) that are not ruled by lines. We study
configurations of lines on certain non-K3 surfaces of degree four and give
various examples of singular quartics with many lines
Between Planning and Heritage: Cultural Parks and National Heritage Areas
The number of cultural parks and heritage areas is increasing in Europe and the United States. Those are spreading over other areas where the economic sectors related to tourism and leisure gain weight. Heritage areas or parks are heterogeneous initiatives that place cultural heritage at the heart of spatial planning policy and economic development, aiming at the reinvention of large territories and local community participation in planning. Their relevance stems from their potential influence on the territorial configuration of broad regions and their impact upon the articulation of traditional protected areas. Notwithstanding this, they have attracted scant academic attention so far
New Physics in : Interplay between semileptonic kaon and hyperon decays
We review a novel model-independent approach to the analysis of new-physics
effects in the transitions. We apply it to (semi)leptonic
kaon decays and study their complementarity with pion and hyperon
decays or with collider searches of new physics.Comment: Contribution to the NA62 Physics Handbook. It summarizes the analysis
presented in arXiv:1605.07114 and discusses in more detail the interplay
between and semileptonic hyperon decays as new-physics probe
Visual Localisation of Mobile Devices in an Indoor Environment under Network Delay Conditions
Current progresses in home automation and service robotic environment have
highlighted the need to develop interoperability mechanisms that allow a
standard communication between the two systems. During the development of the
DHCompliant protocol, the problem of locating mobile devices in an indoor
environment has been investigated. The communication of the device with the
location service has been carried out to study the time delay that web services
offer in front of the sockets. The importance of obtaining data from real-time
location systems portends that a basic tool for interoperability, such as web
services, can be ineffective in this scenario because of the delays added in
the invocation of services. This paper is focused on introducing a web service
to resolve a coordinates request without any significant delay in comparison
with the sockets
