    Post-Covid Vaccination and Non-Vaccination Complications

    Get PDF
Regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, researchers continue to be concerned about topics that have not yet been elucidated, the complications of serious patients during and after COVID, as well as their relationship with vaccination, are interesting. Studies show good acceptance of the vaccine by the general population, however, 15-20% have doubts about its safety. The most frequent complications are pulmonary, extrapulmonary and neurological, the latter due to the property of respiratory viruses neurotropism, which causes neurovirulence damage. The body shows strong reaction against COVID-19. Nonetheless, it is stronger with the OxfordAstraZeneca Vaxzevria vaccine than with the Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty vaccine, which also results in serious neurological disorders. We searched PubMed for the last 3 years. The search engine returned 147 abstracts, they were evaluated for selection and inclusion. They were classified according to how they described vaccine and non-vaccine complications. Through the theoretical foundation of the research, the main complications recorded in the literature consulted were identified. The rates of vaccine complications are low in relation to the immunized population. Vaccines continue to be the main measure to strengthen immunity, which is reflected in fewer serious patients and hospitalizations. In many cases, similar vaccine and non-vaccine complications are observed, so the organism's response to the virus or to other components of the vaccine is involved in the pathogenesis

Numerical analysis of latent heat storage system with encapsulated phase change material in spherical capsules

    Get PDF
Solar energy has been considered as one of the promising solutions to replace the fossil fuels. To generate electricity beyond normal daylight hours, thermal energy storage systems (TES) play a vital role in concentrated solar power (CSP) plants. Thus, a significant focus has been given on the improvement of TES systems from the past few decades. In this study, a numerical model is developed to obtain the detailed heat transfer characteristics of lab-scale latent thermal energy storage system, which consists of molten salt encapsulated spherical capsules and air. The melting process and the corresponding temperature and velocity distributions in every capsule of the system are predicted. The enthalpy-porosity approach is used to model the phase change region. The model is validated with the reported experimental results. Influence of initial condition on the thermal performance of the TES system is predicted

Genesis of Preeclampsia: An Epidemiological Approach

    Get PDF
There are analyzed some of the main aspects related to the causality of preeclampsia, privileging two types of models: the clinic model and the epidemiologic model, first one represented by the hypothesis of the reduced placental perfusion and the second one considering the epidemiologic findings related to the high levels of psychosocial stress and its association with preeclampsia. It is reasoned out the relevance of raising the causality of the disease from an interdisciplinary perspective, integrating the valuable information generated from both types, clinical and epidemiologic, and finally a tentative explanatory model of preeclampsia is proposed, the subclinical and sociocultural aspects that predispose and trigger the disease are emphasized making aspects to stand out: the importance of reduced placental perfusion as an indicator of individual risk, and the high levels of physiological stress, as a result of the unfavorable conditions of the psychosocial surroundings (indicator of population risk) of the pregnant women

Model based on an effective material-removal rate to evaluate specific energy consumption in grinding

    Get PDF
Grinding energy efficiency depends on the appropriate selection of cutting conditions, grinding wheel, and workpiece material. Additionally, the estimation of specific energy consumption is a good indicator to control the consumed energy during the grinding process. Consequently, this study develops a model of material-removal rate to estimate specific energy consumption based on the measurement of active power consumed in a plane surface grinding of C45K with different thermal treatments and AISI 304. This model identifies and evaluates the dissipated power by sliding, ploughing, and chip formation in an industrial-scale grinding process. Furthermore, the instantaneous positions of abrasive grains during cutting are described to study the material-removal rate. The estimation of specific chip-formation energy is similar to that described by other authors on a laboratory scale, which allows to validate the model and experiments. Finally, the results show that the energy consumed by sliding is the main mechanism of energy dissipation in an industrial-scale grinding process, where it is denoted that sliding energy by volume unity decreases as the depth of cut and the speed of the workpiece increase.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

The Role of Knowledge Management in Supply Chain Management: A Literature Review

    Get PDF
Purpose: The aim of this paper is to examine the state of knowledge management research in supply chain management from three standpoints, methodological approach, supply chain management area, and knowledge management processes. Design/methodology/approach: To achieve this, a systematic review is conducted over the period 2000-2014 on the basis of a qualitative content analysis. Findings: Major results showed that knowledge management can be viewed as a leverage mechanism for: (i) supply chain integration; (ii) the enhancement of intra and inter-relations across the supply chain; (iii) supply chain strategy alignment; and (iv) the reinforcement of knowledge transfer in product development. Some supply chain management areas such as reverse logistics, inventory management, forecasting/demand planning, outsourcing, and risk management have been explored only to some extent. Furthermore, knowledge transfer is being studied in the majority of the articles, mainly by both case study and survey approach; mathematical models and simulation techniques are used in very limited articles. Findings concerning theoretical perspectives and managerial issues are also described. Research limitations/implications: The limitation of our study encompasses the aspects of search period (2000-2014), selection of search databases (Web of Science and SCOPUS and language selection (English). Practical implications: The exhibition of the KM processes within the SC context may help practitioners and managers interested in implementing KM initiatives to replicate the methodologies in order to increase the possibilities of a successful KM adoption. Originality/value: The systematic review will contribute to the understanding of the present state of research in the knowledge management theory, with focus on the supply chain, as there are no state-of-knowledge studies that report a systematic literature review approach.Peer Reviewe
