When the Conjunto Arqueológico de Carmona (Seville) wasinaugurated as the first open-air archaeological museum in Spainin 1885, the institution enjoyed a local community of peopleinterested in archaeology, but this community lost strength overtime. One hundred years later, the institution has the goal of beinga participative museum, and rekindling a special relationship withthe local population, to form a new community of users whichcomplements visitors. This article presents the preliminary resultsof a descriptive and exploratory study involving Facebook use tofind out the demographic characteristics of people interested in theConjunto Arqueológico de Carmona, as previous research to forma local community interested in archaeology and cultural heritage.Special attention is paid to the role played by education througharchaeology as a means to improve social empowerment

Checklist and state of knowledge of helminths in wild birds from Chile: an update

Helminths are an important component of biodiversity with over 24,000 species parasitising wild birds globally, with this figure on the rise given the growing interest in wildlife parasitology. The present study aimed to establish an updated baseline of the helminthological surveys on wild birds from Chile. Available publications were reviewed to build a parasite-host association checklist and also to discuss the state of knowledge regarding these parasites. A total of 92 publications were found between the years 1892 and 2019. Regarding helminth parasites, 174 taxa belonging to 3 phyla and 37 families were recorded, 114 taxa were identified at species level, with the rest remaining incompletely described. Also, 4 taxa corresponded to new genera and 16 to new at species for science. The most reported parasites were platyhelminthes (53.9%) followed by nematodes (36.2%) and acanthocephalans (9.2%). Sixty-five avian species from 19 orders have been recorded as hosts, with most of them having been studied only once (64.6%). Out of these, the order Charadriiformes had the highest number of publications (n=23). In the case of the avian species present in the country, 14.2% of native, 40% of endemic and 22.2% of exotic species have been recorded hosting helminths. Regarding heteroxenous parasites, only 2 species have had their life cycles elucidated. Among the methodologies used for parasitic identification, 48.9% of the studies used morphological tools, 5.4% used molecular tools and 4.3% used both tools. For that reason, there are evident gaps in the data concerning the hosts sampled, methodologies and issues related to the biology of parasites such as life cycles, among others. In this sense, the need for specialists and cooperative research becomes indispensable to improve our understanding of helminths

Species of the genus Bonomiella Conci, 1942, are a parasitic on bird species belonging to the family Columbidae (Aves, Columbiformes). In the present study we redescribe the species Bonomiella columbae Emerson, 1957 from Argentinean specimens, and describe the new species B. zenaidae sp. nov. from Zenaida auriculata virgate Bertoni, 1901, and Z. auriculata auriculata (des Murs 1847) from Argentina and Chile. Descriptions include male and female diagnostic features, and also descriptions of nymphal instars II and III. Also, we include a full diagnosis of the genus Bonomiella and an annotated checklist of the six species known to date, with their respective hosts.Fil: Cicchino, Armando Conrado. We studied a collection of lice from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Chile containing all four known species and one new species (described herein) in the genus Tinamotaecola, parasites of birds of the families Cariamidae and Tinamidae. We also (1) describe previously unknown second and third nymphal instars of two Tinamotaecola species, (2) discuss hosts and geographical ranges for all Tinamotaecola species, and (3) speculate on possible macroevolutionary events that may explain the current distribution of these lice on their respective avian hosts.Fil: Cicchino, Armando Conrado. Introduced species can arrive into new territories with parasites; however, these species are expected to face lower parasite richness than in their original regions. Both introduced hosts and parasites can affect native fauna. Since their release into the wild in Chile following laboratory use, Xenopus laevis Daudin, 1802 has widely spread throughout central Chile. The only pathogen described on the host is the fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis Longcore, Pessier, Nichols, 1999; thus, this is the first parasitological study of this species in Chile. In 10 localities in central Chile, 179 specimens of X. laevis were captured and examined for parasites in the gastrointestinal tube, cavities, lungs, liver, and skin. Only nine specimens of the genus Contracaecum Railliet, Henry, 1912 were found in six specimens of X. laevis from a private dam in La Patagua. It is likely that these parasites originated from species of native birds. This is the first record of Contracaecum sp. in Chilean amphibians. Acari, Laelapidae (ectoparasitic mites), central and southern Chile

Laelapidae mites include ectoparasites of small mammals. The fauna of mites of many Neotropical areas is still understudied, and such is the case of Chile. We report the results of a survey carried out in central and southern Chile: Acanthochela chilensis Ewing 1933 is reported from Dromiciops giiroides Thomas 1894; Lukoschus maresi Radovsky and Gettinger 1999 from Abrothrix oiivaceus (Waterhouse 1837); Laeiaps echidninus Berlese 1887 from Rattus rattus (Linnaeus 1758) and R. norvergicus (Berkenhout 1769); and Gigantoiaeiaps woiffsohni (Oudemans 1910) and Mysoiaeiaps microspinosus Fonseca 1936 from Oilgoryzomys longicaudatus (Bennett 1832). The association of Abrothrix sanborni Osgood 1943 with G. wolffsohni and M. microspinosus was accidental, since these mites are common ectoparasites of oryzomine rodents (Rodentia, Cricetidae, Sigmodontinae). Laeiaps maresi, L. echidninus and M. microspinosus are reported for the first time for Chile. The results of this study increase the number of ectoparasitic laelapid mites known from Chile to five species.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

A Qualitative assessment of 50 years of rescue archaeology in Sevilla (1944 - 1998)

Archaeological studies in the city of Seville have been developed at least during the last century. However, the time delimitation of this work is more reduced, corresponding with the last fifty years, due to scientist criteria and complex registry make by Collantes de Terán in the “Cuesta del Rosario” (1944). In the same way, our attention is focused in those interventions make in the historic center and suburbs, and not in distant ones. The objective of this work is to make an assessment of results by a critic revision of the previous analysis and to advance in new research lines
