Development of NSC KIPT nuclear microprobe

    No full text
Development of the microanalysis methods is stimulated by investigations of actual materials. Their properties depend not only on an atomic structure, but also on imperfections of this structure, phase composition, areas of impurity accumulation, various kinds of microinclusions etc. Characteristic sizes of these objects are usually ranged from a few parts of micron to several tens of micron. So, there is need for methods which provide the analysis of chemical elements in samples with the corresponding level of spatial resolution

Concept for a Case Study of a Large Electrical Engineering Enterprise

    Get PDF
This concept for research on problems of innovation management of electrotechnical firms emerged from two ideas, the cores of which cut close to those set forth in the research proposal. One of these was to spread the interest over several sectors that differ in the character of their development. Electrotechnology, a notion yet to be widely accepted, and used here to denote an industrial branch producing products for electro-engineering (power engineering, consumer goods produced with basically the same technology, etc.), is considered a mature industry with a steady and relatively stable growth. Determining what role innovation has played in this development and what problems it gives rise to promises to be a challenging task. The second idea was that in several countries similar but uncoordinated studies are underway and that in fact similar structures can be observed. The object of the study-in this case an electrotechnical company-is being studied by an external research institute, through close collaboration of course. Data on gross production and value added in this branch show similar trends in many countries, although there are differences in external factors, such as processes of capital formation. The many similarities in the organization and structure of production processes could be useful in preparing a more reliable view of future development of this industrial branch. Electrotechnology will not be able to escape the effects of computer-aided design, robots and flexible manufacturing systems, power semi-conductors, new materials, better testing methods, and of course changing price structures. This concept will also serve as a blueprint at the first task force meeting in Leningrad where through discussion it will be possible to order the individual issues according to participants' priorities

Neutron fluxes were measured at an electron energy of 3 MeV, a current of 51 μA and a beryllium target thickness of 3 mm. Taking into account spare capacities for increasing the neutron flux, calculations were made of a maximum attainable thermal neutron fluence for a 3-hour exposure of the object, it was calculated to be ≅ 10¹⁰ n·cm⁻² .

Production Asymmetry Measurement of High Xt Hadrons in pp Collisions at 40 GeV

Single-spin asymmetries for hadrons have been measured in collisions of transversely-polarized 40 GeV/c proton beam with an unpolarized liquid hydrogen target. The asymmetries were measured for pi+-, K+-, protons and antiprotons, produced in the central region (0.02 < Xf < 0.10 and 0.7 < Pt < 3.4 GeV/c). Asymmetries for pi+-, K+- and antiprotons show within measurement errors the linear dependence on Xt and change a sign near 0.37. For protons negative asymmetry, independent of Xt has been found. The results are compared with those of other experiments and SU(6) model predictions.Comment: 25 pages (Latex), 12 Postscript figure

Studies of the Response of the Prototype CMS Hadron Calorimeter, Including Magnetic Field Effects, to Pion, Electron, and Muon Beams

    Get PDF
We report on the response of a prototype CMS hadron calorimeter module to charged particle beams of pions, muons, and electrons with momenta up to 375 GeV/c. The data were taken at the H2 and H4 beamlines at CERN in 1995 and 1996. The prototype sampling calorimeter used copper absorber plates and scintillator tiles with wavelength shifting fibers for readout. The effects of a magnetic field of up to 3 Tesla on the response of the calorimeter to muons, electrons, and pions are presented, and the effects of an upstream lead tungstate crystal electromagnetic calorimeter on the linearity and energy resolution of the combined calorimetric system to hadrons are evaluated. The results are compared with Monte Carlo simulations and are used to optimize the choice of total absorber depth, sampling frequency, and longitudinal readout segmentation.Comment: 89 pages, 41 figures, to be published in NIM, corresponding author: P de Barbaro, [email protected]

Evidence of Color Coherence Effects in W+jets Events from ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV

We report the results of a study of color coherence effects in ppbar collisions based on data collected by the D0 detector during the 1994-1995 run of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, at a center of mass energy sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. Initial-to-final state color interference effects are studied by examining particle distribution patterns in events with a W boson and at least one jet. The data are compared to Monte Carlo simulations with different color coherence implementations and to an analytic modified-leading-logarithm perturbative calculation based on the local parton-hadron duality hypothesis.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures.
