Comparison of aerobic capacity determined by the lactate minimum test among guard, forward and forward-center positions in basketball players
To aim of this study was to verify the aerobic capacity by lactate minimum test (LM) among different positions in professional basketball players. Twelve high performance basketball players (12 Major National Leagues, 26.7± 3.2 years) were evaluated by LM. The method of lactate elevation consisted of 6 maximum sprints of 35 m separated by 10 s of recovery each (Running Anaerobic Sprint Test). The progressive phase in LM consisted of 4 periods of 3 min each at 8, 10, 11 and 12 Km/h. After lactate elevation phase and progressive periods, 25μL samples of blood were collected to determine peak lactate (PL) concentration and relative lactate minimum concentration (LACc) respectively. The running speed at the LM was taken when the gradient of the line was zero. Anova one-way statistical was utilized to compare the intensity corresponding LM, LACc and PL (p≤0.05). The velocity (Km/h) of LM did not differ among positions: Guard LM= 9.46±0.17 Km/h; Forward LM= 9.60±0.68 Km/h and Forward-Center LM= 9.64±0.25 Km/h. The LACc did not differ: Guard LM= 3.55±0.51 mmol/L; Forward LM= 3.48±1.63 mmol/L and Forward-Center LM= 4.00±0.43 mmol/L. No changes occurred in PL: Guard LM= 8.35±1.41 mmol/L; Forward LM= 8.16±1.47 mmol/L and Forward-Center LM= 8.76±1.20 mmol/L. Higher Grading Conformal Affine Toda Teory and (Generalized) Sine-Gordon/Massive Thirring Duality
Some properties of the higher grading integrable generalizations of the
conformal affine Toda systems are studied. The fields associated to the
non-zero grade generators are Dirac spinors. The effective action is written in
terms of the Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten (WZNW) action associated to an affine
Lie algebra, and an off-critical theory is obtained as the result of the
spontaneous breakdown of the conformal symmetry. Moreover, the off-critical
theory presents a remarkable equivalence between the Noether and topological
currents of the model. Related to the off-critical model we define a real and
local Lagrangian provided some reality conditions are imposed on the fields of
the model. This real action model is expected to describe the soliton sector of
the original model, and turns out to be the master action from which we uncover
the weak-strong phases described by (generalized) massive Thirring and
sine-Gordon type models, respectively. The case of any (untwisted) affine Lie
algebra furnished with the principal gradation is studied in some detail.

Determination of paralytic shellfish toxins using potentiometric electronic tongue
Paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs) are monitored in commercial bivalves in several countries in the world due to their toxicity to human consumers. The present work examines the application of an electronic tongue based on potentiometric chemical sensors to the quantification of PSTs in mussel extracts. The electronic tongue comprised six miniaturized sensors with solid inner contact and plasticized polyvinylchloride membranes. Calibration models were calculated by PLS regression using measurements in sixteen model mixed solutions containing four PSTs commonly found in bivalves from the Portuguese coast. Transfer of the calibration models to sample matrix was done by joint-PLS regression using measurements in five mussel extracts spiked with PST standards. Quantification of PSTs in extracts of naturally contaminated mussels, using the electronic tongue and updated calibration model, was in agreement with values of the chromatographic reference method. Those sensors alone or combined in an electronic tongue are useful tools for rapid screening of PST in bivalves.publishe
Haematological and biochemical parameters in Churra-da-Terra-Quente ewes from the northeast of Portugal
Hematological and biochemical parameters, including plasma electrolytes and thyroid hormones, were determined in 73 clinically healthy Churra-da-Terra-Quente ewes, a typical breed from the northeast of Portugal. The hemogram values were: erythrocytes 9.8±1.51012/L; haemoglobin 118.1±19.1g/L; haematocrit 40.8±5.9%; leukocytes 5.7±1.8109/L; and platelets 544.3±177.2109/L. The thrombin time was 17.3±1.7 seconds. The values of biochemical parameters were: total protein 76.4±6.1g/L; glucose 2.87±0.60mmol/L; total cholesterol 1.65±0.33mmol/L; aspartate aminotransferase 155.9±49.2U/L; alanine aminotransferase 23.2±9.6U/L; γ-glutamyl transferase 48.0±18.7U/L; total alkaline phosphatase 121.6±76.1U/L; glutamate dehydrogenase 6.4±3.7U/L; urea 7.32±2.22mmol/L; creatinine 123.0±54.1μmol/L; total calcium 2.53±0.25mmol/L; phosphorus 2.10±0.46mmol/L; magnesium 1.01±0.09mmol/L; sodium 152.04±3.65mmol/L; potassium 4.7±0.4mmol/L; ionized calcium 1.32±0.07mmol/L; total thyroxine 111.75±42.29nmol/L; total triiodothyronine 1.01±0.28nmol/L; free T4 11.93±1.78pmol/L; free T3 4.22±1.33pmol/L; and thyroid-stimulating hormone 0.18±0.19μIU/mL. Although differences among the Churra-da-Terra-Quente breed and other breeds may occur, the hematological and biochemical parameters, plasma electrolytes, and thyroid hormones, for this indigenous breed, were generally situated within the reference intervals previously reported for sheep
Large scale numerical investigation of excited states in poly(phenylene)
A density matrix renormalisation group scheme is developed, allowing for the
first time essentially exact numerical solutions for the important excited
states of a realistic semi-empirical model for oligo-phenylenes. By monitoring
the evolution of the energies with chain length and comparing them to the
experimental absorption peaks of oligomers and thin films, we assign the four
characteristic absorption peaks of phenyl-based polymers. We also determine the

Stationary solutions for the parity-even sector of the CPT-even and Lorentz-covariance-violating term of the standard model extension
In this work, we focus on some properties of the parity-even sector of the
CPT-even electrodynamics of the standard model extension. We analyze how the
six non-birefringent terms belonging to this sector modify the static and
stationary classical solutions of the usual Maxwell theory. We observe that the
parity-even terms do not couple the electric and magnetic sectors (at least in
the stationary regime). The Green's method is used to obtain solutions for the
field strengths E and B at first order in the Lorentz- covariance-violating
parameters. Explicit solutions are attained for point-like and spatially
extended sources, for which a dipolar expansion is achieved. Finally, it is
presented an Earth-based experiment that can lead (in principle) to an upper
bound on the anisotropic coefficients as stringent as

Consistency analysis of a nonbirefringent Lorentz-violating planar model
In this work analyze the physical consistency of a nonbirefringent
Lorentz-violating planar model via the analysis of the pole structure of its
Feynman propagators. The nonbirefringent planar model, obtained from the
dimensional reduction of the CPT-even gauge sector of the standard model
extension, is composed of a gauge and a scalar fields, being affected by
Lorentz-violating (LIV) coefficients encoded in the symmetric tensor
. The propagator of the gauge field is explicitly evaluated
and expressed in terms of linear independent symmetric tensors, presenting only
one physical mode. The same holds for the scalar propagator. A consistency
analysis is performed based on the poles of the propagators. The isotropic
parity-even sector is stable, causal and unitary mode for .
On the other hand, the anisotropic sector is stable and unitary but in general
noncausal. Finally, it is shown that this planar model interacting with a

On the influence of a Coulomb-like potential induced by the Lorentz symmetry breaking effects on the Harmonic Oscillator
In this work, we obtain bound states for a nonrelativistic spin-half neutral
particle under the influence of a Coulomb-like potential induced by the Lorentz
symmetry breaking effects. We present a new possible scenario of studying the
Lorentz symmetry breaking effects on a nonrelativistic quantum system defined
by a fixed space-like vector field parallel to the radial direction interacting
with a uniform magnetic field along the z-axis. Furthermore, we also discuss
the influence of a Coulomb-like potential induced by Lorentz symmetry violation
