A fuzzy logic model for the analysis of social corporate responsibility
Introduction: Critical public opinion, based on information that is made available to the public through different systems, has led companies that operate in the environment to continually improve their social, environmental, and ethical performance. Objectives: This paper aims to propose a fuzzy-logic-based model for the analysis of social corporate responsibility in cases of environmental accidents. Methods: Our study employs techniques derived from social network analysis. The data was collected from the online database of The New York Times for the timespan from March 24, 1989, to September 1, 2017. Results: The results show that the proposed model can be replicated, after some adjustments. Conclusion: We conclude that, despite the complexity of an analysis of this kind in which the model is applied considering isolated words in the text and not the semantic aspects, the proposed model based on fuzzy logic is adequate for the analysis of social corporate responsibility. We would like to thank professors Mariana Claudia Broens, Jose Arthur Quilici Gonzalez and Maria Eunice Quilici Gonzalez for the helpful supervision and indications during the fundamental stages of this research. Simulations studies for the Mini-EUSO detector
Mini-EUSO is a mission of the JEM-EUSO program flying onboard the
International Space Station since August 2019. Since the first data acquisition
in October 2019, more than 35 sessions have been performed for a total of 52
hours of observations. The detector has been observing Earth at night-time in
the UV range and detected a wide variety of transient sources all of which have
been modelled through Monte Carlo simulations. Mini-EUSO is also capable of
detecting meteors and potentially space debris and we performed simulations for
such events to estimate their impact on future missions for cosmic ray science
from space. We show here examples of the simulation work done in this framework
to analyse the Mini-EUSO data. The expected response of Mini-EUSO with respect
to ultra high energy cosmic ray showers has been studied. The efficiency curve
of Mini-EUSO as a function of primary energy has been estimated and the energy
threshold for Cosmic Rays has been placed to be above 10^{21} eV. We compared
the morphology of several transient events detected during the mission with
cosmic ray simulations and excluded that they can be due to cosmic ray showers.
To validate the energy threshold of the detector, a system of ground based
flashers is being used for end-to-end calibration purposes. We therefore
implemented a parameterisation of such flashers into the JEM-EUSO simulation
framework and studied the response of the detector with respect to such
sources
Characterization of a Novel Fibroblast Growth Factor 10 (Fgf10) Knock-In Mouse Line to Target Mesenchymal Progenitors during Embryonic Development
Fibroblast growth factor 10 (Fgf10) is a key regulator of diverse organogenetic programs during mouse development, particularly branching morphogenesis. Fgf10-null mice suffer from lung and limb agenesis as well as cecal and colonic atresia and are thus not viable. To date, the Mlcv1v-nLacZ-24 transgenic mouse strain (referred to as Fgf10LacZ), which carries a LacZ insertion 114 kb upstream of exon 1 of Fgf10 gene, has been the only strain to allow transient lineage tracing of Fgf10-positive cells. Here, we describe a novel Fgf10Cre-ERT2 knock-in line (Fgf10iCre) in which a Cre-ERT2-IRES-YFP cassette has been introduced in frame with the ATG of exon 1 of Fgf10 gene. Our studies show that Cre-ERT2 insertion disrupts Fgf10 function. However, administration of tamoxifen to Fgf10iCre; Tomatoflox double transgenic embryos or adult mice results in specific labeling of Fgf10-positive cells, which can be lineage-traced temporally and spatially. Moreover, we show that the Fgf10iCre line can be used for conditional gene inactivation in an inducible fashion during early developmental stages. We also provide evidence that transcription factors located in the first intron of Fgf10 gene are critical for maintaining Fgf10 expression over time. Thus, the Fgf10iCre line should serve as a powerful tool to explore the functions of Fgf10 in a controlled and stage-specific manner
