All the world’s a mega construction site: Rimini Protokoll’s Gesellschaftsmodell Großbaustelle

Theatre and work not only show many similarities but also have influenced one another for a long time. The following paper investigates how contemporary German theatre – specifically the work of the theatre collective Rimini Protokoll – deals with the representation of work in performative and interactive plays. Focusing first on the general approach of the group on this subject and then on the performance Gesellschaftsmodell Großbaustelle it will be shown how, by exploiting affinities between work and theatre and also ironically recurring to different theatre traditions, Rimini Protokoll’s theatre aims to counteract the alienation and de-personalization brought about by the mechanisms that regulate post-capitalist labor in order both to rehabilitate work – also theatrical work – as an indeed productive dimension of humankind and to urge a reflection on condition of the (post)modern homo laborans.  Il teatro e il lavoro non solo mostrano molte somiglianze fra loro ma da tempo si influenzano a vicenda. Il seguente articolo si propone di indagare come il teatro tedesco contemporaneo, in particolare il lavoro del collettivo Rimini Protokoll, affronti la rappresentazione del lavoro in spettacoli performativi e interattivi. Concentrandosi prima sull'approccio generale del gruppo a questo tema e poi sulla performance Gesellschaftsmodell Großbaustelle si mostrerà come, sfruttando le affinità tra lavoro e teatro ma anche ricorrendo ironicamente a tradizioni teatrali diverse, il teatro di Rimini Protokoll si propone di contrastare l'alienazione e la de-personalizzazione provocate dai meccanismi che regolano il lavoro post-capitalista sia per riabilitare il lavoro - anche quello teatrale - come dimensione realmente produttiva dell'uomo che per sollecitare una riflessione sulla condizione dell'homo laborans (post)moderno

STRESS AND ITS ENERGETIC EFFECT IN TEENS

Numerous studies have confirmed the existence of electromagnetic and proposed subtle energy fields within and around the physical body. Structures such as meridians and chakras associated with these fields have been identified. Experimentation within the past 100 years in particular served to illustrate a vast array of patterns and behaviors of those electromagnetic and subtle energy fields, which in turn, gave rise to theories of energy-based therapies such as acupuncture, homeopathy and hands-on healing. Some practitioners of energy-based medicine such as Caroline Myss, PhD, and Richard Gerber, MD, have directly linked dysfunction of chakras and meridians to the development of illness in the physical body. If a link exists between the behavior of energy in the body and manifestation of physical or psychological distress, it should be possible to demonstrate such an association in a carefully constructed study. This paper describes such a study, in which selected indices of stress were positively correlated with irregular energy flows within the energy systems of a sample of teens. It was hypothesized that when an individual experiences stress, the energy flows in his/her body becomes disorganized and this disorganization is associated with commonly accepted symptoms of physiological and psychological distress. Further, the more disorganized the energy in the body, the greater the number and nature of symptoms. Thirty-two teens, aged 15 to 19 completed a selfadministered questionnaire, an in-depth interview and examination of the body’s energy systems. Though most teens exhibited disorganization in several of their energy systems, some of the teens, who presented the greatest disorganization also exhibited the greatest number of physiological and psychological symptoms. Chi-Square tests showed that a significant relationship exists between self-reported stress level and irregularity in specific energy flows, as well as for energetic irregularity and self-reported mental and physical health ratings. When teens were grouped by the presence (or absence) of Triple Warmer Reactivity and/or Frozen energy, the correlation between physiological or psychological symptoms and energetic irregularity was even more demonstrable. Triple Warmer Reactivity appeared to affect strongly teens’ physical and mental well-being. Assuming a link between the energetic and physical body, intervention at this age with specific techniques to correct energy irregularities could mitigate potential future, physical and mental issues. These results are preliminary and need to be replicated and extended to include objective measures of stress, health and other potentially related variables with a larger sample of teens

This short essay aims to investigate the role played by the object ‘window’ in different post-1989 German representations of the so-called Stasi, that is to say, the secret policy of the German Democratic Republic. In particular, we will linger our attention on a precise situation, that of the controlled-controller, which often recurs in such representations. By analysing three different artistic products (one film: The life of the others by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, and two novels: Ich by Wolfgang Hilbig and Helden wie wir by Thomas Brussig) we will attempt to show how windows largely contributed not only to the functioning of the Stasi itself, but also to creating a country full of spies spying on one another without even knowing of being controlled by others.In the end we will demonstrate how the use of windows in this particular kind of representation also alludes to the concept of the Panopticon (Jeremy Bentham) and its theoretical application carried out by the French philosopher Michael Foucault

This contribution, divided into two parts, aims to propose some reflections on the role of the ‘narrator’ in two comic adaptations of the famous short story The Sandman by E.T.A. Hoffmann. Following some theories on the subject, the first section investigates the narrative properties of this medium, specifically concentrating on the instance of the narrator. In the second part, the focus will be on the specific case of comic adaptations of narrative texts; specifically, through the analysis of the comics transposition of some passages of Hoffmann’s short story that are particularly interesting from a narratological point of view, some considerations will be presented on the role of the narrator and on its function within the two adaptations examined, in order to highlight the different expressive and narrative possibilities of comics.Il presente contributo, suddiviso in due parti, vuole proporre alcune riflessioni sul ruolo del ‘narratore’ in due adattamenti fumettistici del famoso racconto L’uomo della sabbia di E.T.A. Hoffmann. Sulla scorta di alcune teorie a riguardo, una prima sezione indaga le proprietà narrative di questo medium, soffermandosi in particolare sull’istanza del narratore. Nella seconda parte, il focus è invece posto sul caso specifico dell’adattamento fumettistico di testi di prosa narrativa; nello specifico, attraverso l’analisi della resa in fumetto di alcuni passaggi del racconto hoffmanniano particolarmente interessanti da un punto di vista narratologico, verranno presentate alcune considerazioni sul ruolo dell’istanza narrante e sulla sua funzione all’interno delle due trasposizioni prese in esame, onde evidenziare le differenti possibilità espressivo-narrative del fumetto
