University education in advanced countries of the world equip her products with theoretical and applied skills to function as fulcrum upon which the achievement of the dreams of the society rests. The reverse is seen in our society. Our university education system is breeding graduates who lack dedication, pay only lip service and cannot properly man the economic sector of this country. This study intended to determine how proper evaluation of secondary education instructional activities can produce good, efficient and dedicated manpower who are skilled enough to man the nations’ economy in order to face the challenges of the 21st century. Some of the hindrances to the proper evaluation of secondary education towards revamping higher education were discussed, finally recommendations are made that measurement expert should be trained and sent to schools, central examination bodies established and teachers should be sponsored to conferences, workshops and seminars on item developmen

Dance as a mother of all arts is tolerant and accommodating in nature. All the variants of both plastic and performing arts find their living expressions in the production of any dance theatre. This is because dance stands as an entertainment and natural phenomenon constantly predicted on conscious or unconscious movements of man within a social setting. Ability of dance to accommodate these arrays of production codes can be linked to its double learning on time and space. This study therefore, analyses the performance of united we stand by the Bauchi State Council for Arts and Culture as dance theatre. The study employs the descriptive and analytical methods with participant- observation approach as instrument of research. The researcher uses direct involvement in the dance performance as produced by the Bauchi State Council for Arts and Culture at Bayelsa’s NAFEST, 2013. In addition, interviews were conducted as books and journals were equally consulted. It is discovered from the foregoing that united we Stand Dance performance at the 2013 NAFEST in Bayelsa State, is a dance theatre. Music, costumes, makeup, lighting, properties and other theatrical elements enhance the communicative potential of dances in modern time as the blending of dance, costumes, music are expressive and not mimetic. This concludes that no art; plastic or performing arts, is an island of survival as they co-exist in the continuous development of their cultural abode. If art is a recreation of life, and life activities goes beyond imitation of an action (drama) to expression of unspoken feelings in gesticular movements, then, a conglomeration of all performing and plastic arts cannot be overemphasized. it is therefore our recommendation that clinical approach to dance packaging be adopted to make it a total dance theatre. Because if dramatic presentations can be enliven with intersperse of dance performances, then choreographers should as a matter of artistic relevance, be pragmatic in their thematic arrangements of choreographic elements. This will enhance its recognition as the mother of all arts

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of interrelated computing devices to the Internet that are provided with unique identifiers which has the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to- human or human-to- computer interaction. Raspberry pi-3 a popular, cheap, small and powerful computer with built in Wi-Fi can be used to make any devices smart by connecting to that particular device and embedding the required software to Raspberry pi-3 and connect it to Internet. It is difficult to install a full Linux OS inside a small devices like light switch so in that case to connect to a Wi-Fi connection a model was proposed known as Asynchronous Wi-Fi Control Interface (AWCI) which is a simple Wi-Fi connectivity software for a Debian compatible Linux OS). The objective of this paper is to make the interactive user interface for Wi-Fi connection in Raspberry Pi touch display by providing live updates using Socket IO technology. The Socket IO technology enables real-time bidirectional communication between client and server. Asynchronous Wi-Fi Control Interface (AWCI) is compatible with every platform, browser or device.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, published with Global Research and Development Journal for Engineerin

Individuals with hearing impairment are confronted with a lot of problems due to the condition of their disability. This has a negative impact on their social and psychological well-being with multiplying effect on their interpersonal relationship. Therefore, this study investigated the psycho-social influence of hearing impairment on interpersonal behavior of youths with hearing loss.MethodologyThe study adopted a survey research design. A sample consisting of 211 participants with hearing loss were purposively selected from the Federal College of Education (Special) Oyo, Nigeria. A questionnaire, part of Psycho-social Competence Scale (PCS), was used for data collection with reliability coefficient of 0.72.ResultsThe findings revealed that hearing impairement affects social interaction of youths with hearing impairment, hearing loss affects emotional well-being of youths with hearing impairment and youths with hearing impairment feel inferior in company of persons without hearing impairment. Based on this, it was recommended that a friendly home environment should be made and youths with hearing impairment should be advised to accept their loss and take it as a challenge that can be used to achieve a better end and the society should have right attitude and beliefs toward youths with hearing impairment

Stereoselectivity and Structural Characterisation of an Imine Reductase (IRED) from Amycolatopsis orientalis

The imine reductase AoIRED from Amycolatopsis orientalis (Uniprot R4SNK4) catalyzes the NADPH-dependent reduction of a wide range of prochiral imines and iminium ions, predominantly with (S)-selectivity and with e.e.s of up to >99%. AoIRED displays up to 100-fold greater catalytic efficiency for 2-methyl-1-pyrroline (2MPN) compared to other IREDs, such as the enzyme from Streptomyces sp. GF3546, which also exhibits (S)-selectivity, and thus AoIRED is an interesting candidate for preparative synthesis. AoIRED exhibits unusual catalytic properties, with inversion of stereoselectivity observed between structurally similar substrates, and also, in the case of 1-methyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline, for the same substrate, dependent on the age of the enzyme after purification. The structure of AoIRED has been determined in an ‘open’ apo-form, revealing a canonical dimeric IRED fold in which the active site is formed between the N- and C-terminal domains of participating monomers. Co-crystallisation with NADPH gave a ‘closed’ form in complex with the cofactor, in which a relative closure of domains, and associated loop movements, has resulted in a much smaller active site. A ternary complex was also obtained by co-crystallization with NADPH and 1-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline [(MTQ], and reveals a binding site for the (R)-amine product which places the chiral carbon within 4 Å of the putative location of the C4 atom of NADPH that delivers hydride to the C=N bond of the substrate. The ternary complex has permitted structure-informed mutation of the active site, resulting in mutants including Y179A, Y179F and N241A, of altered activity and stereoselectivity

Pan-Cancer Analysis of lncRNA Regulation Supports Their Targeting of Cancer Genes in Each Tumor Context

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are commonly dys-regulated in tumors, but only a handful are known toplay pathophysiological roles in cancer. We inferredlncRNAs that dysregulate cancer pathways, onco-genes, and tumor suppressors (cancer genes) bymodeling their effects on the activity of transcriptionfactors, RNA-binding proteins, and microRNAs in5,185 TCGA tumors and 1,019 ENCODE assays. Our predictions included hundreds of candidateonco- and tumor-suppressor lncRNAs (cancerlncRNAs) whose somatic alterations account for thedysregulation of dozens of cancer genes and path-ways in each of 14 tumor contexts. To demonstrateproof of concept, we showed that perturbations tar-geting OIP5-AS1 (an inferred tumor suppressor) andTUG1 and WT1-AS (inferred onco-lncRNAs) dysre-gulated cancer genes and altered proliferation ofbreast and gynecologic cancer cells. Our analysis in-dicates that, although most lncRNAs are dysregu-lated in a tumor-specific manner, some, includingOIP5-AS1, TUG1, NEAT1, MEG3, and TSIX, synergis-tically dysregulate cancer pathways in multiple tumorcontexts

Pan-cancer Alterations of the MYC Oncogene and Its Proximal Network across the Cancer Genome Atlas

Although theMYConcogene has been implicated incancer, a systematic assessment of alterations ofMYC, related transcription factors, and co-regulatoryproteins, forming the proximal MYC network (PMN),across human cancers is lacking. Using computa-tional approaches, we define genomic and proteo-mic features associated with MYC and the PMNacross the 33 cancers of The Cancer Genome Atlas.Pan-cancer, 28% of all samples had at least one ofthe MYC paralogs amplified. In contrast, the MYCantagonists MGA and MNT were the most frequentlymutated or deleted members, proposing a roleas tumor suppressors.MYCalterations were mutu-ally exclusive withPIK3CA,PTEN,APC,orBRAFalterations, suggesting that MYC is a distinct onco-genic driver. Expression analysis revealed MYC-associated pathways in tumor subtypes, such asimmune response and growth factor signaling; chro-matin, translation, and DNA replication/repair wereconserved pan-cancer. This analysis reveals insightsinto MYC biology and is a reference for biomarkersand therapeutics for cancers with alterations ofMYC or the PMN
