Globalizations, Nations and the Question of Global Democracy
The after cold war period is characterized by the resurgence of ethnic, religious and nationalist conflicts. The rise of such issues can also be observed in a context of globalization which, according to some analyses, is a standardising phenomenon (Waltz, 1999) thus considered by some as threatening local identities. The aim of this paper is to analyse the multifaceted phenomenon of globalization and some definitions of the concept of nation, and then, the relationship between globalization and nation. The analysis is based on the hypothesis of the existence of three kind of globalization (of economy, security and signification). All three globalization shall then be correlated to the two main trends of definition of the concept of nation, the modern and the romantic approaches
