Antioxidantien als Strategie zur Optimierung der Kryokonservierung von Stammzellen für das Tissue Engineering
Kontrolliertes Einfrieren in den Temperaturbereich zwischen – 80 °C und – 196 °C erlaubt es Zellen, bei gleichzeitigem Erhalt ihrer Vitalität nach dem Auftauprozess, langfristig zu lagern. Durch die Verwendung von Antioxidantien sollte in der vorliegenden Arbeit eine Steigerung der Rekultivierbarkeit von mesenchymalen Stammzellen nach der Kryokonservierung erzielt werden. Der Zusatz von 100 μM α–Tocopherol steigerte die Rekultivierungseffzienz der Stammzellen um 117,5 % gegenüber der Kontrolle ohne Antioxidans. Darüber hinaus konnte gezeigt werden, dass eine Reduzierung der DMSO-Konzentration möglich ist, da Versuche mit 200 μM α–Tocopherol und 2,5 % bzw. 5 % DMSO vergleichbare Resultate von ca. 164 % bzw. 170 % Rekultivierbarkeit erzielten.EXC/62/
Rigidity-dependent cosmic ray energy spectra in the knee region obtained with the GAMMA experiment
On the basis of the extensive air shower (EAS) data obtained by the GAMMA
experiment, the energy spectra and elemental composition of the primary cosmic
rays are derived in the 1-100 PeV energy range. The reconstruction of the
primary energy spectra is carried out using an EAS inverse approach in the
framework of the SIBYLL2.1 and QGSJET01 interaction models and the hypothesis
of power-law primary energy spectra with rigidity-dependent knees. The energy
spectra of primary H, He, O-like and Fe-like nuclei obtained with the SIBYLL
interaction model agree with corresponding extrapolations of the balloon and
satellite data to ~1 PeV energies. The energy spectra obtained from the QGSJET
model show a predominantly proton composition in the knee region. The
rigidity-dependent knee feature of the primary energy spectra for each
interaction model is displayed at the following rigidities: ~2.5+/-0.2 PV
(SIBYLL) and ~3.1-4.2 PV (QGSJET). All the results presented are derived taking
into account the detector response, the reconstruction uncertainties of the EAS

Contrast-enhanced nano-CT reveals soft dental tissues and cellular layers
Aim: To introduce a methodology designed to simultaneously visualize dental ultrastructures, including cellular and soft tissue components, by utilizing phosphotungstic acid (PTA) as a contrast-enhancement agent. Methodology: Sound third molars were collected from healthy human adults and fixed in 4% buffered paraformaldehyde. To evaluate the impact of PTA in concentrations of 0.3%, 0.7% and 1% on dental soft and hard tissues for CT imaging, cementum and dentine-pulp sections were cut, dehydrated and stained with immersion periods of 12, 24 h, 2 days or 5 days. The samples were scanned in a high-resolution nano-CT device using pixel sizes down to 0.5 µm to examine both the cementum and pulpal regions. Results: Dental cementum and periodontium as well as odontoblasts and predentine were made visible through PTA staining in high-resolution three-dimensional nano-CT scans. Different segments of the tooth required different staining protocols. The thickness of the cementum could be computed over the length of the tooth once it was made visible by the PTA-enhanced contrast, and the attached soft tissue components of the interior of the tooth could be shown on the dentine-pulp interface in greater detail. Three-dimensional illustrations allowed a histology-like visualization of the sections in all orientations with a single scan and easy sample preparation. The segmentation of the sigmoidal dentinal tubules and the surrounding dentine allowed a three-dimensional investigation and quantitative of the dentine composition, such as the tubular lumen or the ratio of the tubular lumen area to the dentinal surface. Conclusion: The staining protocol made it possible to visualize hard tissues along with cellular layers and soft tissues in teeth using a laboratory-based nano-CT technique. The protocol depended on both tissue type and size. This methodology offers enhanced possibilities for the concomitant visualization of soft and hard dental tissues. © 2021 The Authors. One-neutron knockout from Ni
The single-particle structure of Ni and level structure of Ni
were investigated with the \mbox{Be (Ni,Ni+)} reaction at 73 MeV/nucleon. An inclusive cross
section of 41.4(12) mb was obtained for the reaction, compared to a theoretical
prediction of 85.4 mb, hence only 48(2)% of the theoretical cross section is
exhausted. This reduction in the observed spectroscopic strength is consistent
with that found for lighter well-bound nuclei. One-neutron removal
spectroscopic factors of 0.58(11) to the ground state and 3.7(2) to all excited

Statistical Exploration of Fragmentation Phase Space Source Sizes in Nuclear Multifragmentation
The multiplicity distributions for individual fragment Z values in nuclear
multifragmentation are binomial. The extracted maximum value of the
multiplicity is found to depend on Z according to m=Z_0/Z, where Z_0 is the
source size. This is shown to be a strong indication of statistical coverage of
fragmentation phase space. The inferred source sizes coincide with those

Statistical Multifragmentation in Central Au+Au Collisions at 35 MeV/u
Multifragment disintegrations, measured for central Au + Au collisions at E/A
= 35 MeV, are analyzed with the Statistical Multifragmentation Model. Charge
distributions, mean fragment energies, and two-fragment correlation functions
are well reproduced by the statistical breakup of a large, diluted and

Measurement of the gluon PDF at small x with neutrino telescopes
We analyze the possibility that neutrino telescopes may provide an
experimental determination of the slope lambda of the gluon distribution in the
proton at momentum fractions x smaller than the accelerator reach. The method
is based on a linear relation between lambda and the spectral index (slope) of
the down-going atmospheric muon flux above 100 TeV, for which there is no
background. Considering the uncertainties in the charm production cross section
and in the cosmic ray composition, we estimate the error on the measurement of
lambda through this method, excluding the experimental error of the telescopes,

Evolution of the energy spacing in odd-mass K, Cl and P isotopes for
The energy of the first excited state in the neutron-rich N=28 nucleus 45Cl
has been established via in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy following proton
removal. This energy value completes the systematics of the
E(1/2^+_1)-E(3/2^+_1) level spacing in odd-mass K, Cl and P isotopes for
N=20-28. The results are discussed in the framework of shell-model calculations
in the sd-fp model space. The contribution of the central, spin-orbit and
tensor components is discussed from a calculation based on a proton single-hole
spectrum from G-matrix and pi + rho meson exchange potentials. A composite
model for the proton 0d_{3/2}-1s_{1/2} single-particle energy shift is

Two-neutron knockout from neutron-deficient Ar, S, and Si
Two-neutron knockout reactions from nuclei in the proximity of the proton
dripline have been studied using intermediate-energy beams of neutron-deficient
Ar, S, and Si. The inclusive cross sections, and also the
partial cross sections for the population of individual bound final states of
the Ar, S and Si knockout residues, have been determined
using the combination of particle and -ray spectroscopy. Similar to the
two-proton knockout mechanism on the neutron-rich side of the nuclear chart,
these two-neutron removal reactions from already neutron-deficient nuclei are

Multifragment disintegration has been measured with a high efficiency
detection system for the reaction at . From the event
shape analysis and the comparison with the predictions of a many-body
trajectories calculation the data, for central collisions, are compatible with
