A Cryptographic Escrow for Treaty Declarations and Step-by-Step Verification

The verification of arms-control and disarmament agreements requires states to provide declarations, including information on sensitive military sites and assets. There are important cases, however, where negotiations of these agreements are impeded because states are reluctant to provide any such data, because of concerns about prematurely handing over militarily significant information. To address this challenge, we present a cryptographic escrow that allows a state to make a complete declaration of sites and assets at the outset and commit to its content, but only reveal the sensitive information therein sequentially. Combined with an inspection regime, our escrow allows for step-by-step verification of the correctness and completeness of the initial declaration so that the information release and inspections keep pace with parallel diplomatic and political processes. We apply this approach to the possible denuclearization of North Korea. Such approach can be applied, however, to any agreement requiring the sharing of sensitive information.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure

Vehicle yaw motion control using takagi-sugeno modeling and quadratic boundedness via dynamic output feedback

International audienceThis paper presents the design and the simulation test of a Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy output feedback for yaw motion control. An integrated steering and differential braking controller based on invariant sets, quadratic boundedness theory and a common Lyapunov function has been developed. The TS fuzzy model is able to handle elegantly the nonlinear behavior the vehicle lateral dynamics. The computation of the control law has been achieved using Linear and Bilinear Matrix Inequalities (LMI-BMI) methods. Simulation test shows the controlled car is able to achieve the ISO3888-2 transient maneuver. Some design parameters can be adjusted to handle the tradeoff between safety constraints and comfort specifications

Low Speed Automation, a French Initiative

Nowadays, vehicle safety is constantly increasing thanks to the improvement of vehicle passive and active safety. However, on a daily usage of the car, traffic jams remains a problem. With limited space for road infrastructure, automation of the driving task on specific situation seems to be a possible solution. The French project ABV, which stands for low speed automation, tries to demonstrate the feasibility of the concept and to prove the benefits. In this article, we describe the scientific background of the project and expected outputs

Marcel, "The 2nd competition on counter measures to 2D face spoofing attacks" in International Conference on Biometrics (ICB), Madrid (Spain), 2013, 1-6As a crucial security problem, anti-spoofing in biometrics, and particularly for the face modality, has achieved great progress in the recent years. Still, new threats arrive inform of better, more realistic and more sophisticated spoofing attacks. The objective of the 2nd Competition on Counter Measures to 2D Face Spoofing Attacks is to challenge researchers to create counter measures effectively detecting a variety of attacks. The submitted propositions are evaluated on the Replay-Attack database and the achieved results are presented in this paper. The authors would like to thank the Swiss Innovation Agency (CTI Project Replay) and the FP7 European TABULA RASA Project4 (257289) for their financial support

Post Genome-Wide Association Studies of Novel Genes Associated with Type 2 Diabetes Show Gene-Gene Interaction and High Predictive Value

Recently, several Genome Wide Association (GWA) studies in populations of European descent have identified and validated novel single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), highly associated with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Our aims were to validate these markers in other European and non-European populations, then to assess their combined effect in a large French study comparing T2D and normal glucose tolerant (NGT) individuals. rs7903146 SNP, were combined (8.68-fold for the 14% of French individuals carrying 18 to 30 risk alleles with an allelic OR of 1.24). With an area under the ROC curve of 0.86, only 15 novel loci were necessary to discriminate French individuals susceptible to develop T2D. strongly associate with T2D in French individuals, and mostly in populations of Central European descent but not in Moroccan subjects. Genes expressed in the pancreas interact together and their combined effect dramatically increases the risk for T2D, opening avenues for the development of genetic prediction tests

We propose a new approach for the run-off-road of car-like vehicle problem, based on an expression of a risk function. After the study of the yaw and roll angle trajectory stability using a vehicle/road model, the run-off-road problem has been analysed through three variables: time to line crossing, load transfer on a car axle, and mobilised stiffness. This last one has been used to develop a driving assistance, that warns the driver of excessive speed or inadequate deceleration: by limiting this variable, given the road characteristics, we generate a speed profile. We then give precision requirements on road characteristics based on the analysis of these profiles. We supposed, for the development of this assistance, that the road characteristics are stored on an onboard database. This work can be taken as a base for future development of predictive assistances.EVRY-BU (912282101) / SudocSudocFranceF

International audienceUsing inter-vehicle communication, drivers can be warned in advance, before the approach of a dangerous spot. Even if a warning system can be autonomous using only car to car communication concept, Infrastructure systems can play several roles, functional: when infrastructure is necessary for the system working (traffic information emission antenna, remotely traffic lights, cameras, â‹Ż) and system enhancement b allowing for example better communications between onboard units and connection with other services. This paper aims to describe intelligent transportation systems that involve infrastructure and their evolution
