L'abuso sessuale nei bambini prepuberi. Requisiti e raccomandazioni per una valutazione appropriata

    Get PDF

In vitro antiplasmodial activity of extracts of Tristaniopsis species and identification of the active constituents: Ellagic acid and 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl-(6 '-O-galloyl)-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside

Screening of plants from New Caledonia for antiplasmodial activity against Plasmodium falciparum revealed that methanolic extracts of the leaves and bark of Tristaniopsis calobuxus, T. yateensis, and T. glauca inhibited the growth of chloroquine-sensitive and -resistant clones. Ellagic acid and the new compound 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl-(6 ' -O-galloyl)-O-beta -D-glucopyranoside were identified as the active constituents (IC50 0.5 and 3.2 muM, respectively). The growth inhibition of both clones was comparable. The compounds showed negligible or very low cytotoxicity to human skin fibroblasts and Hep G2 cells when tested at concentrations ranging from 0.5 to 100 muM

Thermal behaviour of the basic carbonates of lanthanum-europium

    No full text
The basic carbonates of lanthanum with 10%, 20%, 50% and 80% of europium were prepared by precipitation from homogeneous solutions via the hydrolysis of urea, without the addition of an auxiliary anion, at two different temperatures. Elemental analysis, complexometric methods, X-ray diffraction patterns, solid state IR absorption, thermogravimetry/derivative thermogravimetry (TG/DTG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) were used to characterise the compounds and study their thermal behaviour

Genital trauma and vaginal bleeding: is it a lapse of time issue? A case report of a prepubertal girl and review of the literature.

Child victims of sexual abuse may present with physical findings whose interpretation requires the most exhaustive evaluation and an accurate collection of a detailed history. Genital bleeding is usually considered as an acute sign, related to a trauma that occurred shortly before its appearance. We report a case of a 34-month-old child who was referred to the emergency room with a significant vaginal hemorrhage, originating from a wide laceration of the posterior fourchette, and a negative history for accidental trauma. The characteristics of the lesion, compared to the temporal evolution of the healing process, and the witnesses\u2019 depositions led us to assume that the time elapsed between the abusive event and the physical examination was longer in respect to what had appeared at the first sight. The judicial reconstruction of the events confirmed our assumption, allowing the charge of the right abuse perpetrator. As the literature regarding this eventuality is very poor, we report this case to stress the importance for physicians to consider that an active bleeding may be the manifestation of a trauma that occurred very long before

Studies on double selenates. XI. Thermal decomposition of lanthanides of the ceric group and lithium double selenates

    No full text
A previous communication [1] described the preparation of the double selenates of lanthanum and the alkali metals; the La-Li compound has the formula La2(SeO4)3 · Li2SeO4 · 8H2O. Subsequent reports [2-4] have shown that it was not possible to prepare the Ce-Li, Pr-Li, Nd-Li and Sm-Li double selenates, using the same method [1]. It was possible to isolate the double selenates of all the cerie group lanthanides and lithium not previously described and, also, a La-Li double selenate having a different stoichiometry, using a modified preparation technique. © 1990

Antitumor activity of new chemical compounds in triple negative mammary adenocarcinoma models

Aim: According to the need for the development of new anticancer agents, we have synthetized novel bioactive compounds and aimed to determine their antitumor action. Materials & methods: We describe in vitro studies evaluating the effect of 35 novel chemical compounds on two triple negative murine mammary adenocarcinoma tumors. Results & conclusion: Three compounds were selected because of their high antitumor activity and their low toxicity to normal cells. Their effect on tumor cells apoptosis, clonogenicity and migratory capacity, were determined. We found that the selected compounds showed inhibition of viability and clonogenic capacity, and promotion of apoptosis. They also decreased the migratory capacity of tumor cells. The results obtained suggest the likelihood of their future use as antitumor and/or antimetastatic agents. In spite of the important progress achieved in cancer therapeutics, the percentage of people dying because of cancer is still high. Hence, we need to develop new, effective and nontoxic anticancer agents. We synthetized novel compounds and tested their antitumor effect and toxicity, in order to choose those that are effective and do not affect normal cells and therefore, are suitable for human cancer therapies. We selected three out of 35 compounds that show high antitumor action and low toxicity. Also, we studied the mechanisms by which that effect was achieved. Our next goal is to develop experiments with animals in order to have preclinical data that, hopefully, will lead to the clinical use of one or more of the selected compounds.Fil: Giolito, Maria Virginia.
