Simulation: A Tool for System Design and Analysis

    Get PDF
In order to explain how simulation may be used to build and analyze systems within the framework of systems theory, this research article explores the mutually beneficial connection between simulation and systems theory. In order to understand complex systems, systems theory provides a fundamental viewpoint that emphasizes holism, interconnectedness, emergence, feedback loops, hierarchy, adaptation, and boundary delineation. Because it captures the intricacy of real-world systems, simulations are crucial for thorough examination. By using the framework of systems theory, simulation examines feedback loops, reveals emergent phenomena, and examines interdependencies while allowing for flexibility in response to changing circumstances. The essential idea of creating limits for systems is important for systems theory and simulation as well as for ensuring that researchers concentrate on the most relevant aspects of their studies. This theoretical framework has broad applications in a variety of fields, including environmental science, industry, healthcare, and urban planning. Simulation models are used in manufacturing to improve operations by taking into account the overall structure of production systems. Systems theory and simulation help healthcare providers make evidence-based decisions that improve patient outcomes. Simulation models handle complex connections in traffic management in urban planning, and they evaluate ecosystem dynamics in environmental research under dynamic situations. In summary, this study highlights the complementary nature of systems theory and simulation, demonstrating how this partnership enhances our understanding of intricate systems and facilitates well-informed decision-making in a dynamic environment

The study examined the effect of diversification onthe performance of selected pharmaceutical shops in Ilorin, Kwara State. A survey research design was adopted for the study. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. The study adopted the test-retest reliability method and content validity. The population of the study consists of 166 employees from 12 selected pharmaceutical firms. The sample size of 117 was determined by using Yamane’s (1968) sample size determination formula.Findings showed that conglomerate diversification has a positive effect on the performance of pharmaceutical stores (ß = 0.654, 0.000 < 0.05). Concentric diversification has a positive effect on the performance of pharmaceutical stores (ß = 0.216, 0.019 < 0.05).The study concluded that70% of the change in performance of selected pharmaceutical shopswas brought about by the dimensions of diversification. Organizations were recommended to use diversification as a survival strategy to outperform their rivals

LEADERSHIP STYLE AND ORGANISATIONAL CHANGE IMPLEMENTATION: A STUDY OF NIGERIAN NATIONAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION (NNPC)

It is generally acknowledged that organisational leaders play important roles in achieving change implementation. However, the type of leadership behaviour needed for adoption in given situations has not been fully understood. The study therefore investigated the impact of leadership styles on organisational change implementation. The study developed an integrated framework combining the direct effect of some leadership styles on organisational change implementation. In order to validate the conceptual framework, empirical research was conducted with a realist perspective. Primary data was collected through a questionnaire from change implementation officials at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) headquarters Abuja. The findings from the study reveal that a combination of the values of democratic and transformational leadership styles contribute to change implementation, therefore making the proposed model imperative for adoption

THE MEDIATING IMPACT OF ORGANISATIONAL TRUST: OVERCOMING ORGANISATIONAL HINDRANCE IN MANAGING ORGANISATIONAL SUCCESS

This paper explores the impact of organisational trust as a basis for strengthening organisational collaboration and reducing perceived organisational hindrance. The paper highlights that organisational trust is a critical element for social interaction between organisational leaders and their subordinates. A conceptual framework for understanding the relationship between organisational trust and participative leadership styles was designed to help overcome possible hindrance

THE IMPACT OF MANAGERIAL SKILLS ON INDIVIDUAL READINESS FOR CHANGE: CLOSING THE GAP ON ORGANISATIONAL COMMITMENT

Despite the extensive body of literature examining the need for readiness for change and commitment, there has been limited research linking factors that can increase the level of individual readiness for change in order to appreciate commitment. This study posits that adequate consideration of the dimensions of managerial skills will benefit organisations in order to increase the impact of individual readiness for change and bridge the gap between organisational commitments. The aim of this paper is to investigate the integrative influence of managerial skills and their impact on the level of individual readiness for change. Data were collected from 160 managers in Nigerian organisations. All respondents were organisational personnel responsible for impacting on commitment or involved with strategic decisions for performance improvement, and thereof filled out the structured questionnaire. Increasing individual readiness for change is based on a thoughtful consideration and implication of the dimensions of managerial skills rather than just focusing on one skill

A Rhetoric on the Quest for Effective Leadership in Organisations

    No full text
This conceptual paper is an evaluation of the leadership agenda in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and its subsidiary companies, and presents a platform for developing a capacity for change through effective leadership. This is based on the notion that in today’s business environment, there is an increasing demand for effective leaders who understand the complex nature of businesses/organisations and their continuous changing environment as suggested by Tseng (2010). The changing business environment requires leaders who are intellectual, sensitive, and have the ability to empathise with others. D’Amato et al. (2010) suggest that effective leaders are those who can motivate their followers to strive for excellence as depicted in the 21st century management goals. The paper critically examines the leadership styles and management practices in the NNPC and the study makes several important contributions to the field of leadership and management, especially in the NNPC and its subsidiary companies. The paper begins with an introductory background on leadership styles at the NNPC. It integrates relative concepts of organisational learning and leadership from an empirical perspective. This study gives a thematic analysis of basic leadership theories which empirically proves that adopting Transformational and Transactional leadership theories in the organisation may establish a strong relationship between leaders/managers and followers. Through this research, organisations within the public sector in Nigeria can improve their learning, accelerating business growth and innovation
