Jet Investigations Using the Radial Moment
We define the radial moment, , for jets produced in hadron-hadron
collisions. It can be used as a tool for studying, as a function of the jet
transverse energy and pseudorapidity, radiation within the jet and the quality
of a perturbative description of the jet shape. We also discuss how

Heavy Top Quark Searches in the Di-Lepton Mode at the Tevatron
We present the results of a detailed study of the effects of -tagging on
the heavy top-quark signal and backgrounds for the modes of the di-lepton plus
two high transverse energy jets at the Fermilab Tevatron. The general
characteristics of the heavy top-quark signal events are also discussed so that
a comparison can be made between -tagging and imposing stringent kinematical

Genetic screening of 202 individuals with congenital limb malformations and requiring reconstructive surgery
BACKGROUND: Congenital limb malformations (CLMs) are common and present to a variety of specialties, notably plastic and orthopaedic surgeons, and clinical geneticists. The authors aimed to characterise causative mutations in an unselected cohort of patients with CLMs requiring reconstructive surgery. METHODS: 202 patients presenting with CLM were recruited. The authors obtained G-banded karyotypes and screened EN1, GLI3, HAND2, HOXD13, ROR2, SALL1, SALL4, ZRS of SHH, SPRY4, TBX5, TWIST1 and WNT7A for point mutations using denaturing high performance liquid chromatography (DHPLC) and direct sequencing. Multiplex ligation dependent probe amplification (MLPA) kits were developed and used to measure copy number in GLI3, HOXD13, ROR2, SALL1, SALL4, TBX5 and the ZRS of SHH. RESULTS: Within the cohort, causative genetic alterations were identified in 23 patients (11%): mutations in GLI3 (n = 5), HOXD13 (n = 5), the ZRS of SHH (n = 4), and chromosome abnormalities (n = 4) were the most common lesions found. Clinical features that predicted the discovery of a genetic cause included a bilateral malformation, positive family history, and having increasing numbers of limbs affected (all p<0.01). Additionally, specific patterns of malformation predicted mutations in specific genes. CONCLUSIONS: Based on higher mutation prevalence the authors propose that GLI3, HOXD13 and the ZRS of SHH should be prioritised for introduction into molecular genetic testing programmes for CLM. The authors have developed simple criteria that can refine the selection of patients by surgeons for referral to clinical geneticists. The cohort also represents an excellent resource to test for mutations in novel candidate genes
Snowmass 2001: Jet Energy Flow Project
Conventional cone jet algorithms arose from heuristic considerations of LO
hard scattering coupled to independent showering. These algorithms implicitly
assume that the final states of individual events can be mapped onto a unique
set of jets that are in turn associated with a unique set of underlying hard
scattering partons. Thus each final state hadron is assigned to a unique
underlying parton. The Jet Energy Flow (JEF) analysis described here does not
make such assumptions. The final states of individual events are instead
described in terms of flow distributions of hadronic energy. Quantities of
physical interest are constructed from the energy flow distribution summed over
all events. The resulting analysis is less sensitive to higher order
perturbative corrections and the impact of showering and hadronization than the

Enhancing the top signal at Tevatron using Neural Nets
We show that Neural Nets can be useful for top analysis at Tevatron. The main
features of and background events on a mixed sample are projected in
a single output, which controls the efficiency and purity of the

Jet photoproduction and the structure of the photon
Various jet observables in photoproduction are studied and compared to data
from HERA. The feasibility of using a dijet sample for constraining the parton
distributions in the photon is then studied. For the current data the
experimental and theoretical uncertainties are comparable to the variation due

Factorization and soft-gluon divergences in isolated-photon cross sections
We study the production of isolated photons in annihilation and give
the proof of the all-order factorization of the collinear singularities. These
singularities are absorbed in the standard fragmentation functions of partons
into a photon, while the effects of the isolation are consistently included in
the short-distance cross section. We compute this cross section at order \as
and show that it contains large double logarithms of the isolation parameters.
We explain the physical origin of these logarithms and discuss the possibility

Hepta-Cuts of Two-Loop Scattering Amplitudes
We present a method for the computation of hepta-cuts of two loop scattering
amplitudes. Four dimensional unitarity cuts are used to factorise the integrand
onto the product of six tree-level amplitudes evaluated at complex momentum
values. Using Gram matrix constraints we derive a general parameterisation of
the integrand which can be computed using polynomial fitting techniques. The
resulting expression is further reduced to master integrals using conventional
integration by parts methods. We consider both planar and non-planar topologies
for 2 to 2 scattering processes and apply the method to compute hepta-cut
contributions to gluon-gluon scattering in Yang-Mills theory with adjoint

Les Houches Guidebook to Monte Carlo Generators for Hadron Collider Physics
Recently the collider physics community has seen significant advances in the
formalisms and implementations of event generators. This review is a primer of
the methods commonly used for the simulation of high energy physics events at
particle colliders. We provide brief descriptions, references, and links to the
specific computer codes which implement the methods. The aim is to provide an
overview of the available tools, allowing the reader to ascertain which tool is
best for a particular application, but also making clear the limitations of

Associated Higgs production with top quarks at the Large Hadron Collider: NLO QCD corrections
We present in detail the calculation of the O(alpha_s^3) inclusive total
cross section for the process pp -> t-tbar-h, in the Standard Model, at the
CERN Large Hadron Collider with center-of-mass energy sqrt(s_H)=14 TeV. The
calculation is based on the complete set of virtual and real O(alpha_s)
corrections to the parton level processes q-qbar -> t-tbar-h and gg ->
t-tbar-h, as well as the tree level processes (q,qbar)g -> t-tbar-h-(q,qbar).
The virtual corrections involve the computation of pentagon diagrams with
several internal and external massive particles, first encountered in this
process. The real corrections are computed using both the single and the two
cutoff phase space slicing method. The next-to-leading order QCD corrections
significantly reduce the renormalization and factorization scale dependence of
the Born cross section and moderately increase the Born cross section for
