    Impact of Personality of Working Women on Marital Satisfaction

    Personality traits denote inherited or acquired individual characteristics of thought, feeling and actions that include the psycho-physical, emotional, conscious and unconscious behavior pattern of a person. The major problem in marriage is adjustment to a mate. Interpersonal relationships play as important role in marriage like friendships. But after marriage, the interpersonal relationships are difficult to maintain compare to social life. To evaluate the impact of personality traits on marital adjustment this study was carried out among working women in organized sector. A total of 300 employed women from different professions, e.g. education, health and other services were selected from Ranchi, Hazaribag, Ramgarh and Bokaro district of Jharkhand. Marital relationship is shaped by the action and interaction of various external factors like income, education, type of work, household responsibilities, type of family and internal factors viz., background, interest, temperament, values. Results reveal that majority of the respondents had similar interests and values. There was significant difference in temperament between college teacher-clerk and school teacher-clerk. The respondent belonging to higher service and lower service had no significant difference with respect to similarities of interest and value. Additionally there was a significant difference in adaptability between doctor and clerk, officer and clerk, and school teacher and clerk. To achieve marital harmony one has to be rational, tolerant, cooperative and loving. Successful marriage depends mainly on flexibility, independence, sufficient emotional support and positive communication between the partners

    Regulation of gastric acid secretion in situ by an endogenous activator protein: Studies with activator-specific antibody

    Monospecific polyclonal antibody was raised against a homogenous preparation of endogenous activator protein (HAF) for the gastric H+,K+-ATPase system. Antibody was used to assess the regulatory role of the HAF in gastric acid secretion by isolated rabbit glands in situ. Immunohistochemical studies revealed aredistribution of theHAFtowards discrete intracellular zones following stimulation of the glands with histamine. The antibody, when inserted into the stimulated gastric glands by digitonin permeabilization, could effectively block the acid forming ability of the cells. The data offers, for the first time, some concrete in situ evidence for the role of the HAF as an intracellular regulator of gastric H+ transport .The manuscript was written (in the early 1990) soon after the data were collected, but never submitted to a journal with the hope of getting better gel picture and fluorescent micrograph which did not materialize due to unavoidable circumstances

    Cloning and characterization of mutL and mutS genes of Vibrio cholerae: nucleotide sequence of the mutL gene

    The mutL and mutS genes of Vibrio cholerae have been identified using interspecific complementation of Escherichia coli mutL and mutS mutants with plasmids containing the gene bank of V. cholerae. The recombinant plasmid pJT470, containing a 4.7 kb fragment of V. cholerae DNA codes for a protein of molecular weight 92,000. The product of this gene reduces the spontaneous mutation frequency of the E. coli mutS mutant. The plasmid, designated pJT250, containing a 2.5 kb DNA fragment of V. cholerae and coding for a protein of molecular weight 62,000, complements the mutL gene function of E. coli mutL mutants. These gene products are involved in the repair of mismatches in DNA. The complete nucleotide sequence of mutL gene of V. cholerae has been determined

    Repression of the alkaline phosphatase of Vibrio cholerae

    The synthesis of alkaline phosphatase by two strains of Vibrio cholerae belonging to the Inaba and Ogawa serotypes has been examined in relation to the phosphate concentration of the culture medium. The synthesis of the enzyme in both strains was repressed in cells grown in the presence of a high concentration of inorganic phosphate. Lowering the phosphate content of the growth medium led to a derepression of enzyme activity. The presence of glucose in low phosphate medium stimulated the degree of derepression. The synthesis of the enzyme by strain Inaba 569B was more sensitive to inorganic phosphate than that of strain Ogawa 154. The enzyme was presumably located in the periplasmic space since it was released when the organisms were converted to spheroplasts

    Phytomedicinal Role of Pithecellobium dulce

    Present study investigates the beneficial role of the aqueous extract of the fruits of Pithecellobium dulce (AEPD) against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced hepatic injury using a murine model. AEPD has been found to possess free radical (DPPH, hydroxyl and superoxide) scavenging activity in cell-free system. CCl4 exposure increased the activities of various serum maker enzymes and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. In line with these findings, we also observed that CCl4 intoxication increased the lipid peroxidation and protein carbonylation accompanied by decreased intracellular antioxidant defense, activity of cytochrome P450 and CYP2E1 expression. DNA fragmentation and flow cytometric analyses revealed that CCl4 exposure caused hepatic cell death mainly via the necrotic pathway. Treatment with AEPD both pre- and post-toxin exposure protected the organ from CCl4-induced hepatic damage. Histological findings also support our results. A well-known antioxidant vitamin C was included in this study to compare the antioxidant potency of AEPD. Combining all, results suggest that AEPD protects murine liver against CCl4-induced oxidative impairments probably via its antioxidative property

    In severe leptospirosis multi organ involvement is common. Pancreatitis and meningo encephalitis are two\ud uncommon manifestations of leptospirosis. Our patient presented with fever, jaundice, altered sensorium and\ud subsequently developed severe pain abdomen. He was finally diagnosed as having icteic leptospirosis\ud complicated with pancreatitis and meningoencephalitis. Simultaneous presence of these two complications in a\ud patient of leptospirosis probably not been documented before
