    Healthy Habits, Healthy U: Knowledge and Intention in Primary Cancer Prevention

    Healthy Habits, Healthy U (HHHU) is a collaboration between St. Luke’s Mountain Tumor Institute (MSTI), Boise State University, and the Boise School District (BSD). Boise State University provides trained teaching assistants who deliver the lessons and MSTI’s pathology department provides the cancerous and non-cancerous tissue samples for the students to examine. This primary prevention cancer education program focuses on teaching students how their current daily health habits can impact their risks of developing cancer. Utilizing various teaching methods and materials, students learn how the 5, 2, 1, 0 health tips: 5 fruits and vegetables, 2 hours of screen time, 1 hour of physical activity, and 0 sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB), can improve their health. In Spring 2017, eighth-grade health students (N=707) completed a pre and post-test. Overall knowledge and correlation between unhealthy habits and risk of developing cancer increased (p \u3c .001, d = 1.36). Students (85%) were able to correctly identify 3 of their unhealthy habits and corresponding healthier alternatives. Six additional survey questions asked about students’ likelihood of altering behaviors over the next two weeks. A majority (87.5%) mentioned reducing SSB’s consumed, (86%) increasing fruits and vegetables consumption, and (83.5%) increasing their physical activity and reducing screen time. HHHU has been incorporated into the BSD eighth-grade health curriculum and is expanding to 4th and 12th-grade. Students and teachers respond positively to this hands-on, interactive cancer program

La presente investigación, tiene como propósito, presentar una visión sobre el enfoque de la ciencia, tecnología y sociedad y su importancia en los estudios turísticos, así como los beneficios derivados de asumir retos para promocionar un destino con el uso de las tecnologías de información y comunicación.   Desde este enfoque las autoras exponen el papel fundamental de la sociedad como sistema dinamizador, que puede establecer objetivos y contenidos de la ciencia y la tecnología, de acuerdo a los valores que desea satisfacer. La obtención de resultados lleva a importantes conclusiones, establecidos sobre una base teórica fundamentada, en el sentido de que no se trata solo de aplicar las tecnologías de información y comunicación, sino de reflexionar sobre cómo podrían contribuir a estudios turísticos, para atender adecuadamente necesidades de turistas y gestionar los recursos adecuadamente tal como menciona la Organización Mundial de Turismo (OMT).In the age of knowledge, the productive forces of science and technology are evident, as well as the generation of transformations in human relationships. The purpose of this research is to present a vision on the approach of science, technology and society and its importance in tourism studies, as well as the benefits derived from taking on challenges to promote a destination with the use of information technologies and communication. From this approach, the authors expose the fundamental role of society as a dynamic system, which can establish objectives and contents of science and technology, according to the values ​​that it wishes to satisfy.     La presente investigación estuvo encaminada al propósito de implementar la estrategia didáctica del aula taller, con el objetivo de valorar el efecto de la misma, el rol del docente y los estudiantes, las habilidades y destrezas de los mismos, donde cada uno pongan en práctica la participación activa en estas asignaturas de TAC y AEP. El grupo sujeto a estudio, a nivel externo pertenece a una escuela pública ubicada en el municipio de El Crucero, siendo esta una comunidad rural en la ciudad de Managua, cuya población proviene de hogares de escasos recursos económicos. En esta investigación se implementó la estrategia didáctica del aula taller para la elaboración de trabajos manuales con materiales de reciclaje poniendo en práctica una manera de innovar sin la generación de mucho costo al elaborar creaciones artísticas con carácter de emprendedurismo. El estudio se realizó bajo el enfoque cualitativo, siendo del tipo descriptivo la cual consiste en llegar a conocer situaciones, costumbres y actitudes predominantes a través de la descripción exacta de las actividades, procesos, objetos y personas, analiza la estrategia didáctica del aula taller también el estudio se ubica dentro de los de corte transversal puesto que fue realizado en un periodo de tiempo determinado correspondiente al segundo semestre del año escolar 2021. Se emplearon las técnicas de relleno de guías de observación, entrevista a la docente y estudiantes mediante un dialogo interactivo con la estrategia del conversatorio, se realizó dos encuentros de clases demostrativas, un encuentro de clase interdisciplinaria entre ambas asignaturas, seguido de un monitoreo y seguimiento para recolectar la información de los efectos de las clases demostrativas y una evaluación mediante la técnica de grupo focal, se analizó mediante la técnica de triangulación, de esto se logró establecer las conclusiones.     CONTRIBUTING FACTORS TO MEDICATION ERRORS AS PERCEIVED BY NURSING STUDENTS IN ILIGAN CITY, PHILIPPINES

    Background: Nursing students are allowed to give medication with clinical supervision to enhance skills in medication administration. However, studies suggest that some students commit medication errors due to knowledge, personal, administrative and environmental factors. Objective: This study will identify factors that cause student nurses to commit medication errors and correlate it to the number of perceived medication errors committed. Methods: A correlational design was used to correlate the factors contributing to medication administration and the number of medication errors committed by the students. 388 randomly selected nursing students were asked to answer Modified Medication Error Questionnaire which measures the knowledge, administrative, personal and environmental factors which may contribute to medication administration errors. Medication administration errors are measured according to the number of times a student commits as perceived by them. Results: Lack of knowledge of the drug and equipment to be used for administration, decrease in confidence, poor clinical assessment of patients’ conditions, and poor follow ups from clinical instructor are identified concerns under knowledge factor. Poor positive feedback, inadequate supervision and belittling ways of clinical instructors are identified under the administrative factor. Fear of administering an injection or giving medications is a common problem under personal factor. Inappropriate labelling of medications, unfavorable room temperature, lack of space, inadequate lighting, disorganized medication administration schedule and noise are problems found under environmental factor. A minority of 17.3% claimed that they have encountered a medication error in any of their clinical duties. Conclusion: Knowledge, administrative, personal and environmental factors have no effect towards medication errors. However, the relationship between age and the number of perceived medications errors is established. More in-depth investigation is recommended to determine the type of medication errors committed and its detrimental effects towards patient safety

    Aspectos epidemiológicos, clínicos e laboratoriais da Meningite viral: uma revisão de literatura

    Infecções ocasionadas por vírus são capazes de afetar o Sistema Nervoso Central (SNC), desencadeando principalmente encefalites e meningites. O objetivo foi relatar os aspectos epidemiológicos, clínicos e laboratoriais da meningite viral. Foi realizado uma revisão de literatura narrativa, na qual foram analisados artigos científicos publicados na língua portuguesa e inglesa, utilizando os descritores: Meningites virais, líquido cefalorraquidiano, meningites. O período de coleta destas informações ocorreu entre janeiro e abril de 2022. O enterovírus é o agente etiológico mais comum nos quadros de meningite asséptica, tendo uma prevalência em pacientes infantis e adultos de até 90% dos casos, sendo mais incidentes no sexo masculino. O estudo realizado aponta que o agente etiológico com maior prevalência é o Enterovírus Echovirus, todavia na rotina clínica não é realizado um diagnóstico específico do vírus, realizando apenas um descarte de meningite bacteriana por meio da avaliação bioquímica e celular do LCR. A meningite viral, normalmente, não é grave, porém, como não há um tratamento específico, é de extrema importância o diagnóstico da doença, a fim de evitar um processo terapêutico errôneo e uma maior taxa de hospitalização, com aumento de morbimortalidade
