THE BOUNDARIES OF THE FIRM. THE CASE OF OIL INDUSTRY IN ROMANIA

    Get PDF
The economic theory of the firm has met an exponential growth in the last decades different from the traditional neoclassical approach. In the first part of the paper we are skimming through the most spread approaches, namely the theory of incomplete contracts and evolutionary school. In the second part we apply the explications on integration provided by the economics of transaction costs with an example on the oil industry in Romania. A brief qualitative analysis reaches out the conclusion that cutting transaction and agency costs is one of the factors that leads to integration within the studied sector.Transaction Cost, Agency Theory, Oil

States, symmetries and correlators of TTˉT\bar{T} and JTˉ J\bar{T} symmetric orbifolds

We derive various properties of symmetric product orbifolds of TTˉT\bar{T} and JTˉJ\bar{T} - deformed CFTs from a field-theoretical perspective. First, we generalise the known formula for the torus partition function of a symmetric orbifold theory in terms of the one of the seed to non-conformal two-dimensional QFTs; specialising this to seed TTˉT\bar{T} and JTˉJ\bar{T} - deformed CFTs reproduces previous results in the literature. Second, we show that the single-trace TTˉT\bar{T} and JTˉJ\bar{T} deformations preserve the Virasoro and Kac-Moody symmetries of the undeformed symmetric product orbifold CFT, including their fractional counterparts, as well as the KdV charges. Finally, we discuss correlation functions in these theories. By extending a previously-proposed basis of operators for JTˉJ\bar{T} - deformed CFTs to the single-trace case, we explicitly compute the correlation functions of both untwisted and twisted-sector operators and compare them to an appropriate set of holographic correlators. Our derivations are based mainly on Hilbert space techniques and completely avoid the use of conformal invariance, which is not present in these models.Comment: 50 pp, 5 figure

    Genital Male Piercings

    Get PDF
Body piercing has been practiced for thousands of years all over the world for beautification, religion, initiation rites or status reasons. Genital piercings also have a significant background and have been practiced for enhancing sexual pleasure, chastity, shocking or as a protest against a conservative society. As the popularity of genital piercings increased in the last years, the number of complications is also on the rise. It is therefore important for the medical professionals to have at least basic knowledge regarding this practice, as it might be required in the management of unpredictable complications

Cutaneous Manifestations in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

    Get PDF
Inflammatory bowel diseases have a high frequency in Europe. They are chronic disorders that evolve with relapses and remissions. Clinical features include the signs of underlying inflammatory bowel disease and also signs of extraintestinal manifestations. Cutaneous disorders are the most common extraintestinal manifestations associated with inflammatory bowel diseases, which can be dependent on or independent of gastrointestinal disease activity. The main cutaneous disorders are erythema nodosum and pyodermagangrenosum. The pathogenic mechanisms are not fully understood but it seems that related mechanisms are involved in the development of inflammatory bowel diseases and extraintestinal manifestations. Treatment should be aimed at both the cutaneous manifestations and the bowel inflammation

Introduction: Nowadays, plant extracts are highly applied in food industries either as sources of bioactive components or as an alternative to artificial additives. Therefore, food manufacturers are focused on innovative products, which can satisfy consumers' requirements. Objectives: This study investigates the encapsulation of Origanum majorana, Achillea millefolium, Foeniculum vulgare, Juniperus communis and Anethum graveolens EOs in alginate capsules as a means of controlling the fast release of volatile constituents. Materials and Methods: The EOs were obtained via steam distillation. Sodium alginate was chosen as a carrier because of its biodegradable and biocompatible properties. The paper describes the simple dripping technique used for the preparation of the alginate microcapsules with EO cores, and a possible application of the microcapsules as a natural flavor additive. Results: Sensorial properties of the final product were subjectively analyzed and described. The changes of the taste and the flavour of candies in comparison with the control sample were significant. Nevertheless, the strong herbal odour was found as "uncommon in confectionary but pleasant. Conclusion: It has been investigated, that the sodium alginate encapsulated EOs have to be added as a final step of a recipe to save its antimicrobial and antioxidant potential. Further assays need to be performed to investigate the recipe, which includes the EO alginate microcapsules in order to get a high-quality final product that can be used for commercial purposes

Romanian Population Perception about Food Risk Behavior Starting from their Social and Cultural Profile

Our goal was to assess the Romanian’s food behavior according to their socio-cultural profile, in order to identify food behavior at risk and implement educational prevention methods. We performed a study based on the assessment of lifestyle and social aspects, based on an international project validated questionnaire of 26 questions, applied online in 2018 to a group of 821 adults, in Romania. The results underlined that socio-economic status was a contributing factor in food choices, people with low socio-economic status opted for low-price food, especially the elderly (40%). Regarding the preference for eating alone related to gender, both the female respondents (37.8%) and the males (50.6%) mostly disagreed, with statistical significance for males (p<0.022), also males were more influenced about what other people are eating (p<0.045). It is needed to implement new educational strategies, both in schools and adults communities, in order to reduce the risks for future chronic diseases

Romanian branded hotels: are they worth the effort?

    Get PDF
The presence of branded hotels in Romania remains relatively modest after two decades since the first Sofitel (Accor Hotels) entered the market. Thus, the number of branded hotels increased since 2005 when they were first investigated. The present study investigates the RevPAR of the Romanian hotels that have joined an international brand, either hard (franchising and management contracts) or soft (affiliation), and the hotel operators’ net financial results over a five year period 2012-2016. The results of this exploratory study reveal that the most notorious brands operating in Romania are also those generating the highest RevPAR. Further, the results show that operating a brand outside Bucharest (mainly a hard brand) proves to generate constantly net profit for most of the respective hotel operators, despite a RevPAR below the European average. This finding suggests that the brand notoriety generates an increased occupancy rate. The results indirectly point out that most of the branded hotels’ operators seem to struggle on the crowded Bucharest hotel market enhancing the idea of internal inefficiencies. Given the structure of the Romanian hotel industry, the partnership with an international brand seems to be worth the effort mainly if the brand is appropriately chosen taking into consideration the hotel location and size

Emergency Hospital for Children MS Curie, Bucharest, Romania, Al VIII-lea Congres Naţional de Ortopedie și Traumatologie cu participare internaţională 12-14 octombrie 2016Introduction: given the recalcitrant behaviour of pseudarthrosis in congenital pseudarthrosis of tibia (CPT) there is no ideal solution to treat such challenging deformities. Reconsideration of already known principles using modern technology may generate new treatment methods. Material and methods: the present paper presents the preliminary results of an original reconstruction procedure described by Prof. Dr. Gh. Burnei to treat large bone defects in paediatric orthopaedics. A case series study, the surgical technique, complications and illustrative cases are presented. Results: 4 cases of 18 patients having CPT, surgically treated between 1997 and 2012, were operated using this technique. The principles of the method is to create an optimal osteoconductive and osteoinductive environment using bone autograft, bone allograft and bone graft substitutes and to provide a good stabilisation of the bones. The follow-up period of the study group ranged from 2 to 17 years. Three of the 4 patients are able to ambulate. Conclusion: we believe that the present technique could be a reliable alternative to other procedures, especially in cases of repeated failures

Finishing the euchromatic sequence of the human genome

    Get PDF
The sequence of the human genome encodes the genetic instructions for human physiology, as well as rich information about human evolution. In 2001, the International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium reported a draft sequence of the euchromatic portion of the human genome. Since then, the international collaboration has worked to convert this draft into a genome sequence with high accuracy and nearly complete coverage. Here, we report the result of this finishing process. The current genome sequence (Build 35) contains 2.85 billion nucleotides interrupted by only 341 gaps. It covers ∼99% of the euchromatic genome and is accurate to an error rate of ∼1 event per 100,000 bases. Many of the remaining euchromatic gaps are associated with segmental duplications and will require focused work with new methods. The near-complete sequence, the first for a vertebrate, greatly improves the precision of biological analyses of the human genome including studies of gene number, birth and death. Notably, the human enome seems to encode only 20,000-25,000 protein-coding genes. The genome sequence reported here should serve as a firm foundation for biomedical research in the decades ahead
