Outpatient Physical Therapy Management of a Patient with Left Hip Femoroacetabular Impingement: A Case Study

    Get PDF
Background and Purpose: Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome is a motion related clinical disorder of the hip in which there is premature contact between the acetabulum and the proximal femur. This case study evaluates the effectiveness of physical therapy as a first line treatment for FAI and discusses the patient outcomes based on the chosen interventions. The results can be used to better understand the most appropriate interventions for conservative FAI treatment. Case Description: The patient was a 15-year-old male student athlete who presented to physical therapy with left anterior and lateral hip pain. Interventions: The rehabilitation program provided to the patient consisted of patient education, core strengthening, application of McKenzie hip flexor stretching, hip musculature strengthening, postural balance exercises, neuromuscular re-education, functional lower limb strengthening as well as a personalized home exercise program. Outcomes: Following treatment the patient demonstrated increased left hip ROM, and strength as well as 0/10 left hip pain with all ADLs. Discussion: The patient responded well to the chosen interventions. However, further research into the most effective conservative care for the treatment of FAI is still necessary and is currently being carried ou

The Concept of Faith in Romans

It is the object of the writer of this thesis to undertake that study. He makes no claim that this is an exhaustive study. However, we shall treat some of the chief aspects or faith which Paul deals with in Romans. And since Romans contains the core of the doctrine of Justification by Faith, we hope to have a representative view of the Biblical aspects of faith

Unmet Labour Demand in Europe - Chances for Immigrants?

    Get PDF
This paper examines the chances for immigrants on the European job market. The data represents a one percent sample of the German population of the Micro census for the years 1998, 2000 and 2003 and Eurostat Labour Force Survey data. The issue addressed is how the academic and occupational level of education (participation in education), labour participation, professional status, unemployment rate, income, female labour participation and atypical occupation (structure of employment) of the foreigners differ from the native population. We find that foreigners in EU countries are more likely to be unemployed and are often in lower segments of the labour market. European comparisons of the labour market situation shows that the acknowledgment of foreign degrees, discrimination, supporting measures and the labour market policy have to be taken into account, as well as the (country-specific) human capital, language skills and the immigrants’ participation in education. Impacts of the General Music Classroom on Social-Emotional Learning

    Get PDF
The purpose of this action research project was to gain insight into students’ social-emotional learning and the impact of general music class on it. The researcher utilized a dependent samples T-test with four sections of third-grade students gathering data with a check-in and check-out form on their emotional zone, using Kuypers, L. (2022) Zones of Regulation. The researcher is a general music teacher (transitional kindergarten through fifth grade) in her nineteenth year of teaching. The findings of this study showed that more than half of students came to music class in a focused and ready-to-learn state. The observations kept by the researcher revealed that interruptions for behavior were fewer at the end of the four-week data period but there were no real trends observed. The researcher then postulates how the general music room supports social-emotional learning and suggests what further studies could be done

Creative component curriculum development: Applied Communications in Agriculture

    Get PDF
Applied Communications in Agriculture is a course developed to fulfill a creative component requirement. The course is designed to meet the needs of a written communication requirement for two-year agriculture programs at community colleges. Prior to the development of the course, previous courses used in two-agriculture programs to fulfill the written communication component were compared to see what the descriptions and objectives were. This course was specifically designed to fulfill the written communication requirement at Iowa Lakes Community College

Mobility in Europe: Analysis of the 2005 Eurobarometer Survey on Geographical and Labour Market Mobility

    Get PDF
The European Commission has designated the year 2006 as 'European Year of Workers' Mobility'. The purpose of the initiative is to inform EU citizens of the benefits and the costs of both geographical mobility and job or labour market mobility; the realities of working in another country or changing job or career; and the rights they are entitled to as migrant workers. The initiative also aims to promote the exchange of good practice between public authorities and institutions, the social partners and the private sector, and to promote greater study of the scale and nature of geographical and job mobility within the Union

The authors report the pilot study focused on identifying the emotional intelligence (El) of leaders in the automatic merchandising and coffee service industries. The data were collected from 39 executives, members of National Automatic Merchandising Association (NM), who attended 2005 Executive Development Program on the campus of Michigan State University. Three elements of EI- IN, OUT, RELATIONSHIP for these leaders are discussed

The search for life in extreme environments: Measuring diversity and quantity of archaea in Wind Cave National Park

Archaea have the potential to play an essential role in their environment at the base of the food chain. In particular, most of the known species in the phylum Thaumarchaea are autotrophs that can fix their own carbon using energy from ammonia oxidation, that is, they produce their own organic molecules from carbon dioxide by burning nitrogen-based fertilizer. Since their discovery, it has been difficult to learn more about these microbes because they do not grow well in pure laboratory culture. Therefore, much of what is known about them comes from analyzing environmental DNA samples. This allowed researchers to discover that Archaea are ubiquitous in soils and are found even in seemingly barren environments such as the subterranean lakes in Wind Caves National Park. This cave system is one of the most complex in the world and provides an analog for some of the other extreme environments that exist in the solar system. By utilizing molecular techniques such as qPCR and Sanger sequencing of cloned PCR products, we quantified the relative number of archaea in the cave system, as well as identified some of the archaeal species based on their 16S rRNA genes. Our qPCR results revealed that there are fewer archaeal 16S rRNA genes inside of the cave than near the natural entrance to the cave. Our preliminary results of the archaeal clone library identified only thaumarchaeal species suggesting this phylum is the most numerous Archaea in the cave system. In terms of spatial distribution, archaeal DNA was found at all levels of the cave including near the surface and in the deep subterranean cave lakes. Future studies will be able to use our collection of environmental DNA samples to quantify and analyze species diversity using additional molecular techniques such as NGS (next generation sequencing)
