Advocating the Development of Space Enterprise: The Space Business Roundtable Movement Nationwide
Space Business Roundtables nationwide are building an important constituency for the future of space enterprise development. The Roundtables serve as space chambers of commerce In their local areas, bringing together Individuals and organizations from diverse areas in general and technical business, local, state, and federal government, the military, and the academic community. General direction Is provided through a national affiliation with the Space Foundation , Inc., of Houston, Texas, while each Individual Roundtable is organized and managed in a manner to best serve Its local community. Currently, there are seven Roundtables chartered by the Space Foundation. Roundtable members, and Roundtables as organizations, are beginning to have an impact on the development of space policy, and on the attitude of the business community toward space enterprise. The Florida Roundtable, founded in 1 986, is one of the most active Roundtables in the country, conducting a full agenda of Briefing Meetings, Roundtable Workshops and Seminars, and publishing Roundtable Script and Space Business Briefing. IMPACT OF SCHOOL-BASED MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES ON STUDENT ATTENDANCE AT A SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SCHOOL DISTRICT
When children experience trauma, it impacts their development, mental stability, learning, and behavior. This causes an increased need for prevention and early intervention mental health services within the public school system. Some California school districts offer mental health services students can utilize at their schools. Social workers are best equipped to assist and provide students with the necessary mental health resources due to their education, training, and role. This study used secondary data from 101 randomly selected Southern California school district participants. This study examined the relationship between children’s attendance, age, gender, primary diagnosis, living arrangements, number of traumatic events experienced, problems children have at school, family mental health history, and program completion. The findings will help school districts conceptualize the need for mental health services
A Special Homotopy Continuation Method For A Class of Polynomial Systems
A special homotopy continuation method, as a combination of the polyhedral
homotopy and the linear product homotopy, is proposed for computing all the
isolated solutions to a special class of polynomial systems. The root number
bound of this method is between the total degree bound and the mixed volume
bound and can be easily computed. The new algorithm has been implemented as a
program called LPH using C++. Our experiments show its efficiency compared to
the polyhedral or other homotopies on such systems. As an application, the
algorithm can be used to find witness points on each connected component of a
real variety
Target costing : the use of profit management system by the automobile manufactures established in Brazil
novos produtos. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTIn this study there had been researched the automobile manufactures established in Brazil,
aiming to verify if the use of the Target Costing system for cost and profit planning practiced
by the companies is adherent to the theory. It is an exploratory research which has used a
questionnaire to obtain the data. The questionnaire was based on the steps used by Monden
(1999), which should be followed by the automobile manufacturers when using the target
costing system. A number of 16 companies that produce commercial vehicles to the
population in general were selected, excluding the companies that produce vehicles
concerned to rural areas. The analysis was shorten to 5 companies that replied to the
questionnaire, making it approximately 31% of the companies, which, on the other hand are
responsible for 70% of all vehicles manufactured. The conclusion is that the companies
analyzed use the cost system named target costing, according to the Monden (1999) theory,
and perform with great intensity during the production process and the planning of new
products
Stroke Quality Measures in Mexican Americans and Non-Hispanic Whites
Mexican Americans (MAs) have been shown to have worse outcomes after stroke than non-Hispanic Whites (NHWs), but it is unknown if ethnic differences in stroke quality of care may contribute to these worse outcomes. We investigated ethnic differences in the quality of inpatient stroke care between MAs and NHWs within the population-based prospective Brain Attack Surveillance in Corpus Christi (BASIC) Project (February 2009- June 2012). Quality measures for inpatient stroke care, based on the 2008 Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center definitions were assessed from the medical record by a trained abstractor. Two summary measure of overall quality were also created (binary measure of defect-free care and the proportion of measures achieved for which the patient was eligible). 757 individuals were included (480 MAs and 277 NHWs). MAs were younger, more likely to have hypertension and diabetes, and less likely to have atrial fibrillation than NHWs. MAs were less likely than NHWs to receive tPA (RR: 0.72, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.52, 0.98), and MAs with atrial fibrillation were less likely to receive anticoagulant medications at discharge than NHWs (RR 0.73, 95% CI 0.58, 0.94). There were no ethnic differences in the other individual quality measures, or in the two summary measures assessing overall quality. In conclusion, there were no ethnic differences in the overall quality of stroke care between MAs and NHWs, though ethnic differences were seen in the proportion of patients who received tPA and anticoagulant at discharge for atrial fibrillation
Novel domain architectures and functional determinants in atypical annexins revealed by phylogenomic analysis.
The fundamental cellular role and molecular interactions of annexins in vesicle trafficking and membrane remodeling remain to be further clarified in order to better understand and exploit their contributions to health and disease. We focused on distinctive features of atypical annexins from all domains of life using phylogenomic, molecular systematic and experimental approaches, to extend the current paradigm and better account for annexin diversity of structure, function and mechanistic role in membrane homeostasis. The analysis of gene duplications, organization of domain architectures and profile hidden Markov models of subfamily orthologs defined conserved structural features relevant to molecular interactions and functional divergence of seven family clades ANXA-G. Single domain annexins of bacteria, including cyanobacteria, were frequently coupled to enzymatic units conceivably related to membrane metabolism and remodeling. Multiple ANX domains (up to 20) and various distinct functional domains were observed in unique annexins. Canonical type 2 calcium binding ligands were well-preserved in roughly half of all ANX domains, but alternative structural motifs comprised of 'KGD', cysteine or tryptophan residues were prominently conserved in the same strategic interhelical loops. Selective evolutionary constraint, site-specific location and co-occurrence in all kingdoms identify alternative modes of fundamental binding interactions for annexins
