Universal quantum computation with the Orbital Angular Momentum of a single photon
We prove that a single photon with quantum data encoded in its orbital
angular momentum can be manipulated with simple optical elements to provide any
desired quantum computation. We will show how to build any quantum unitary
operator using beamsplitters, phase shifters, holograms and an extraction gate
based on quantum interrogation. The advantages and challenges of these approach
are then discussed, in particular the problem of the readout of the results.Comment: First version. Comments welcom
The dialogical potential of Facebook: the case of fashion brands
The main goal of this study is to examine the communication that
fashion brands make through Facebook. It is intended to ascertain if the fashion
brands use a communication strategy based on dialogue with their followers. In
order to reach the objectives indicated above, a content analysis has been carried
out (quantitative methodology) of 326 publications made through Facebook by
H&M, Zara and Ralph Lauren between January 1st and June 30th of 2017. The
main results of this work show that, although Facebook has a wide dialogical
potential, fashion brands do not use it to a great extent. Although we consider
appropriate to have analyzed only the social network Facebook given its im portance, this situation could be considered as the main limitation of the present
study, since the fashion brands could, or not, be taking advantage of the dialogical
potential of other social networks, such as Twitter or Instagram. It could be con sidered that this research stands out for studying a series of variables that allows
organizations to know if they are using the dialogical potential offered by digital

Computed tomography angiography for the interventional cardiologist
WOS:000339902400002In recent years, coronary CT angiography (CCTA) has become a widely adopted technique, not only due to its high diagnostic accuracy, but also to the fact that CCTA provides a comprehensive evaluation of the total (obstructive and non-obstructive) coronary atherosclerotic burden. More recently, this technique has become mature, with a large body of evidence addressing its prognostic validation. In addition, CT angiography has moved from the field of `imagers' and clinicians and entered the interventional cardiology arena, aiding in the planning of both coronary and structural heart interventions, being transcatheter aortic valve implantation one of its most successful examples. It is therefore of utmost importance that interventional cardiologists become familiar with image interpretation and up-to-date regarding several CTA features, taking advantage of this information in planning the procedure, ultimately leading to improvement in patient outcomes. On the other hand, the increasing use of CCTA as a gatekeeper for invasive coronary angiography is expected to lead to an increase in the ratio of interventional to diagnostic procedures and significant changes in the daily cath-lab routine. In a foreseeable future, cath-labs will probably offer an invasive procedure only to patients expected to undergo an intervention, perhaps becoming in this change true interventional-labs.publishersversionpublishe
Kaposi's sarcoma in a patient with erythroblastopenia and thymoma: Reactivation after topical corticosteroids
We report a 69-year-old female with erythroblastopenia and thymoma who developed lesions of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) after thymectomy, 2 months after the initiation of therapy with methylprednisolone. Control of mucocutaneous KS lesions was obtained with radiotherapy, interferon alfa-2b and withdrawal of systemic immunosuppressive therapy. Erosive oral lichen planus appeared later, and after therapy with topical corticosteroids a new lesion of KS developed that regressed after withdrawal of topical corticosteroids. The detection of HHV-8 only in lesional skin supports the hypothesis that this virus can trigger the development of KS lesions
Deep Learning Framework for Controlling Work Sequence in Collaborative Human–Robot Assembly Processes
project UIDB/EMS/00667/2020 (UNIDEMI)The human–robot collaboration (HRC) solutions presented so far have the disadvantage that the interaction between humans and robots is based on the human’s state or on specific gestures purposely performed by the human, thus increasing the time required to perform a task and slowing down the pace of human labor, making such solutions uninteresting. In this study, a different concept of the HRC system is introduced, consisting of an HRC framework for managing assembly processes that are executed simultaneously or individually by humans and robots. This HRC framework based on deep learning models uses only one type of data, RGB camera data, to make predictions about the collaborative workspace and human action, and consequently manage the assembly process. To validate the HRC framework, an industrial HRC demonstrator was built to assemble a mechanical component. Four different HRC frameworks were created based on the convolutional neural network (CNN) model structures: Faster R-CNN ResNet-50 and ResNet-101, YOLOv2 and YOLOv3. The HRC framework with YOLOv3 structure showed the best performance, showing a mean average performance of 72.26% and allowed the HRC industrial demonstrator to successfully complete all assembly tasks within a desired time window. Thrombospondin-1 serum levels do not correlate with pelvic pain in patients with ovarian endometriosis
Objetive: Thrombospondin-1 serum levels is correlate with pelvic pain in patients with ovarian
endometriosis.
Patients: Thrombospondin-1 serum levels were prospectively analysed in 51 patients (group A
asymptomatic patients or patients presenting mild dysmenorrhea and women comprised group B
severe dysmenorrhea and/or chronic pelvic pain and/or dyspareunia) who underwent surgery for
cystic ovarian endometriosis to asses whether a correlation exists among thrombospondin-1
serum levels and pelvic pain.
Results: From 56 patients, five cases were ultimateley excluded, because the histological diagnosis
was other than cystic ovarian endometriosis (2 teratomas and 3 haemorragic cysts). The mean
thrombospondin-1 serum levels in group A was 256,69 pg/ml_+37,07 and in group B was 291,41
pg/ml + 35,59.
Conclusion: Pain symptoms in ovarian endometriosis is not correlated with thrombospondin-1
serum levels
Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph Observations of Magellanic Cloud Planetary Nebulae: the nature of dust in low metallicity circumstellar ejecta
We present 5 - 40 micron spectroscopy of 41 planetary nebulae (PNe) in the
Magellanic Clouds, observed with the Infrared Spectrograph on board the Spitzer
Space Telescope. The spectra show the presence of a combination of nebular
emission lines and solid-state features from dust, superimposed on the thermal
IR continuum.
By analyzing the 25 LMC and 16 SMC PNe in our sample we found that the IR
spectra of 14 LMC and 4 SMC PNe are dominated by nebular emission lines, while
the other spectra show solid-state features. We observed that the solid-state
features are compatible with carbon-rich dust grains (SiC, polycyclic aromatic
hydrocarbons (PAHs), etc.) in most cases, except in three PNe showing
oxygen-rich dust features. The frequency of carbonaceous dust features is
generally higher in LMC than in SMC PNe.
The spectral analysis allowed the correlations of the dust characteristics
with the gas composition and morphology, and the properties of the central
stars. We found that: 1) all PNe with carbonaceous dust features have C/O>1,
none of these being bipolar or otherwise highly asymmetric; 2) all PNe with
oxygen-rich dust features have C/O<1, with probable high mass progenitors if
derived from single-star evolution (these PNe are either bipolar or highly
asymmetric); 3) the dust temperature tracks the nebular and stellar evolution;
and 4) the dust production efficiency depends on metallicity, with low
