We provide algorithmic methods to check the Cohen--Macaulayness, Buchsbaumness and/or Gorensteiness of some families of semigroup rings that are constructed from the dilation of bounded convex polyhedrons of R3\R^3_{\geq}. Some families of semigroup rings are given satifying these properties

Key issues on partial least squares (PLS) in operations management research: A guide to submissions

    Get PDF
Purpose: This work aims to systematise the use of PLS as an analysis tool via a usage guide or recommendation for researchers to help them eliminate errors when using this tool. Design/methodology/approach: A recent literature review about PLS and discussion with experts in the methodology. Findings: This article considers the current situation of PLS after intense academic debate in recent years, and summarises recommendations to properly conduct and report a research work that uses this methodology in its analyses. We particularly focus on how to: choose the construct type; choose the estimation technique (PLS or CB-SEM); evaluate and report the measurement model; evaluate and report the structural model; analyse statistical power. Research limitations: It was impossible to cover some relevant aspects in considerable detail herein: presenting a guided example that respects all the report recommendations presented herein to act as a practical guide for authors; does the specification or evaluation of the measurement model differ when it deals with first-order or second-order constructs?; how are the outcomes of the constructs interpreted with the indicators being measured with nominal measurement levels?; is the Confirmatory Composite Analysis approach compatible with recent proposals about the Confirmatory Tetrad Analysis (CTA)? These themes will the object of later publications. Originality/value: We provide a check list of the information elements that must contain any article using PLS. Our intention is for the article to act as a guide for the researchers and possible authors who send works to the JIEM (Journal of Industrial and Engineering Management). This guide could be used by both editors and reviewers of JIEM, or other journals in this area, to evaluate and reduce the risk of bias (Losilla, Oliveras, Marin-Garcia & Vives, 2018) in works using PLS as an analysis procedure

Exploring the Relationship Between R&D and Productivity: A Country-Level Study

    Get PDF
Research and development (R&D) has been considered a source of growth in productivity starting from Schultz (1953). Since then, significant research has studied this relationship at the firm, industry and country level. However, at the country level, most of the empirical studies assessing the R&D-productivity relationship often fail to consider the possible simultaneity of these variables. Do more productive countries invest more on R&D or does the higher level of R&D investment that leads to higher levels of productivity? Do both relationships occur at the same time? Using a 65-country panel for the time period of 1960- 2000, this study provides evidence that the relationship is mainly based on investment in R&D and not the reverse. In addition, we found that per capita R&D expenditure is strongly exogenous to productivity. These results suggest that, on average, those countries making the most effort in the R&D sector will be more productive in the future. Finally, we present evidence those points out a strong relationship between R&D and productivity in terms of both magnitude and significance.

The present text tries to analyze the relationships between the concept of digital storytelling applied to advertising starting from the base of the transmedia narrative. This is: how the new transmediatic narrative helps the construction of advertising discourses based on the notion of storytelling and how it establishes the bases for an educommunication of the consumer, the spectator and / or the target. Key factors for taking a position in discussions of artistic research: conflicts and challenges of a multiple, changing and inquisitive knowledge. Spanish context (1978-2017)

The current situation of artistic research continues to pose multiple conflicts and debates that show the disengagement of the last few decades between the strategies of university policies and the stubborn reality of artistic research practices. In order to relocate positions on these conflicts and the current challenges, there is a re-reading of the debates on the Spanish artistic research since 1978. Back then, the artistic teachings were incorporated into the university system in Spain until today. The proposal was to display a timeline to locate the links between university policies and some relevant debates, through events and publications of this period. These data point to some of the key aspects that identify the most relevant and recurring conflicts in artistic research, epistemological issues (object of research, terminology and methodology) and their controversial assessment and financing criteria (linked to recognition of the formats and circuits of diffusion, temporalities, affiliation to institutions, etc.). Also, other issues that have been considered secondary or marginal (such as the working conditions of researchers, the precariousness of the artistic sector and research in humanities or the privatisation and commercialism of knowledge and culture). Finally, we propose some questions to consider in order to take a position on the current challenges, which should take into account the multiple, changing and questioning nature of artistic knowledge
