On the Resistance Evaluation of Lateral-torsional Buckling of Bisymmetrical I-section Beams Using Finite Element Simulations

AbstractEvaluation of the lateral-torsional buckling resistance of bisymmetrical I-section beams using finite element method was widely discussed in the paper. Numerous FEM simulations with regard to the stability behavior of steel structural elements subjected to bending about the major principal axis were performed. The use of different finite element modeling techniques and their influence on obtained results were presented by the authors. The ultimate state of both perfect and imperfect elements was assessed. Considerations were concerned with hot-rolled wide flange HEB and narrow flange IPE section beams. Idealization of boundary conditions of FEM models complies with the assumptions used in the analytical formulation of stability problems of thin-walled beams. Geometrically and materially nonlinear analyses GMNA and GMNIA preceded by LBA analyses were carried out. Numerical simulations were conducted with use of ABAQUS/ Standard program

A 17-year-old girl without any cardiac symptoms and with no previous history of cardiovascular disease was diagnosed to have an intracardiac tumour. The diagnosis was made by chance during two-dimensional echocardiography which showed a mobile, peduncular tumour, 2 cm in diameter, arising from the apex of the left ventricle. The patient underwent successful surgery

Marchant - Rankine’s - Murzewski approach for modelling of the buckling resistance of welded I-section columns

This paper discusses different aspects of analytical and numerical modelling of the buckling resistance of welded I-section columns subjected to axial compression. The section considered is of class 1 that implies no local buckling affecting the column performance. The proposed analytical formulation of the buckling resistance is based on the so-called Marchant-Rankine's-Murzewski approach (M-R-M approach). The model proposed is of a 2D type and is a simplification of the 3D one that has recently been presented by the authors. The parameters of equivalent stress-strain model of the postwelding steel are calibrated in two stages of the best fit approximation procedure and with use of numerical results of the finite element simulation of the buckling resistance. In the first stage, the postyielding inelastic tangent stiffness parameter ξE,eff is evaluated with fixed value of the first yield parameter ψeff= ψcom. A target of the second stage is to assign the best fit value of the first yield parameter ψeff and the imperfection factor n that allows for accounting the effect of geometric imperfections

Subscriber location in radio communication nets, Journal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2008, nr 2

Our aim is to develop the method of location subscriber to be used in military communication nets. This method is based on frequency offset measurement. Analytic description of the Doppler effect creates one of such possibilities. In this paper, an original location subscriber method is presented. We showed the Maxwell equations solution in the case of a transmitter continually changing location in relation to a receiver. It makes possible to calculate exactly the value of the received signal parameters especially frequency offset. The methodology described in this paper shows that the Doppler frequency offset value can be used for radio signal sources location

Background The immunological escape of tumors represents one of the main ob- stacles to the treatment of malignancies. The blockade of PD-1 or CTLA-4 receptors represented a milestone in the history of immunotherapy. However, immune checkpoint inhibitors seem to be effective in specific cohorts of patients. It has been proposed that their efficacy relies on the presence of an immunological response. Thus, we hypothesized that disruption of the PD-L1/PD-1 axis would synergize with our oncolytic vaccine platform PeptiCRAd. Methods We used murine B16OVA in vivo tumor models and flow cytometry analysis to investigate the immunological background. Results First, we found that high-burden B16OVA tumors were refractory to combination immunotherapy. However, with a more aggressive schedule, tumors with a lower burden were more susceptible to the combination of PeptiCRAd and PD-L1 blockade. The therapy signifi- cantly increased the median survival of mice (Fig. 7). Interestingly, the reduced growth of contralaterally injected B16F10 cells sug- gested the presence of a long lasting immunological memory also against non-targeted antigens. Concerning the functional state of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), we found that all the immune therapies would enhance the percentage of activated (PD-1pos TIM- 3neg) T lymphocytes and reduce the amount of exhausted (PD-1pos TIM-3pos) cells compared to placebo. As expected, we found that PeptiCRAd monotherapy could increase the number of antigen spe- cific CD8+ T cells compared to other treatments. However, only the combination with PD-L1 blockade could significantly increase the ra- tio between activated and exhausted pentamer positive cells (p= 0.0058), suggesting that by disrupting the PD-1/PD-L1 axis we could decrease the amount of dysfunctional antigen specific T cells. We ob- served that the anatomical location deeply influenced the state of CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes. In fact, TIM-3 expression was in- creased by 2 fold on TILs compared to splenic and lymphoid T cells. In the CD8+ compartment, the expression of PD-1 on the surface seemed to be restricted to the tumor micro-environment, while CD4 + T cells had a high expression of PD-1 also in lymphoid organs. Interestingly, we found that the levels of PD-1 were significantly higher on CD8+ T cells than on CD4+ T cells into the tumor micro- environment (p < 0.0001). Conclusions In conclusion, we demonstrated that the efficacy of immune check- point inhibitors might be strongly enhanced by their combination with cancer vaccines. PeptiCRAd was able to increase the number of antigen-specific T cells and PD-L1 blockade prevented their exhaus- tion, resulting in long-lasting immunological memory and increased median survival

In the paper two classes of poly-convex stored energy functions for transversally isotropic hyper-elastic materials have been proposed. Within these classes, a simplified model of hyper-elastic materials with an isotropic matrix reinforced with fibre family was derived and implemented in finite element software ABAQUS/Standard. The two numerical examples proving correctness of the implementation and showing its positive physical features are presented
