Progress in weakly coupled string phenomenology
The weakly coupled vacuum of heterotic string theory remains
an attractive scenario for particle physics. The particle spectrum and the
issue of dilaton stabilization are reviewed. A specific model for hidden sector
condensation and supersymmetry breaking, that respects known constraints from
string theory, is described, and its phenomenological and cosmological

Full Component Lagrangian in the Linear Multiplet Formulation of String-inspired Effective Supergravity
We compute the component field 4-dimensional N=1 supergravity Lagrangian that
is obtained from a superfield Lagrangian in the U(1)_K formalism with a linear
dilaton multiplet. All fermionic terms are presented. In a variety of important
ways, our results generalize those that have been reported previously, and are
flexible enough to accomodate many situations of phenomenological interest in
string-inspired effective supergravity, especially models based on orbifold
compactifications of the weakly-coupled heterotic string. We provide for an
effective theory of hidden gaugino and matter condensation. We include
supersymmetric Green-Schwarz counterterms associated with the cancellation of
U(1) and modular duality anomalies; the modular duality counterterm is of a
rather general form. Our assumed form for the dilaton Kahler potential is quite
general and can accomodate Kahler stabilization methods. We note possible
applications of our results. We also discuss the usefulness of the linear
dilaton formulation as a complement to the chiral dilaton approach.Comment: 2+34 page
Consequences of the regular distribution of sainfoin hay on gastrointestinal parasitism with nematodes and on milk production in a dairy goat flock
The objectives of the current study were to examine the potential effects of distribution of sainfoin hay on nematode parasitism
in a producing herd and to measure the consequences on milk production. The survey was performed in an experimental herd
of 120-dairy-goat farm during a whole 9-month grazing season. Every month, 60 goats received indoors on average 1.36 kg of
sainfoin hay for 10 days whereas the 60 remaining goats were used as controls, thus receiving the same amount of lucerne hay at
the same time. The nutritional values of both hays were comparable except that concentrations of condensed tannins was higher
in sainfoin than in lucerne hay, i.e. 2.52% versus 0.7% of diet DM. Intakes of the two types of hay were recorded along with
each period. Individual faecal and blood samples were performed monthly to compare parasitological and pathophysiological
parameters in the two groups. Milk yield, fat and protein contents were measured fortnightly. A higher consumption of hay was
repeatedly recorded in the sainfoin versus the control group. Irrespective to dietary treatment, nematode egg excretions were low
during the whole season. Meanwhile, egg output was significantly lowest in the sainfoin group, but the composition in nematode
genera was similar among the two groups. Based on a semi quantitative index for assessment of faecal consistency, a lower faecal
dry matter content was also found in goats from the sainfoin group. The two animal groups exhibited similar milk yield, fat and
protein contents. The differences in egg excretion between the two groups might be due to higher intake of hay in the barn thus to
low consumption of grass, a source of parasite infection, or to the effect of some secondary compounds, like tannins. Whatever
the mechanism involved, our results suggest that a regular distribution of sainfoin hay to dairy goats might be associated with a
reduction in parasitism with gastrointestinal nematodes, without negative consequences on milk production.

Phenomenological Aspects of Heterotic Orbifold Models at One Loop
We provide a detailed study of the phenomenology of orbifold
compactifications of the heterotic string within the context of supergravity
effective theories. Our investigation focuses on those models where the soft
Lagrangian is dominated by loop contributions to the various soft supersymmetry
breaking parameters. Such models typically predict non-universal soft masses
and are thus significantly different from minimal supergravity and other
universal models. We consider the pattern of masses that are governed by these
soft terms and investigate the implications of certain indirect constraints on
supersymmetric models, such as flavor-changing neutral currents, the anomalous
magnetic moment of the muon and the density of thermal relic neutralinos. These
string-motivated models show novel behavior that interpolates between the
phenomenology of unified supergravity models and models dominated by the

experiment. Considering the PANDA experiment to be an ideal platform to explore
the production of the charmonium and charmonim-like states, we suggest the
forthcoming PANDA experiment to pay attention to the production of

5.5-7.5 MeV Proton generation by a moderate intensity ultra-short laser interaction with H2O nano-wire targets
We report on the first generation of 5.5-7.5 MeV protons by a moderate
intensity short-pulse laser (4.5 \times 1017 W/cm^2, 50 fsec) interacting with
H2O nano-wires (snow) deposited on a Sapphire substrate. In this setup, the
laser intensity is locally enhanced by the tip of the snow nano-wire, leading
to high spatial gradients. Accordingly, the plasma near the tip is subject to
enhanced ponderomotive potential, and confined charge separation is obtained.
Electrostatic fields of extremely high intensities are produced over the short
scale length, and protons are accelerated to MeV-level energies.Comment: submitted to PRL, under press embargo. 6 figure
Identified particle correlation studies in central Au + Au collisions at sqrt(S)= 200 GeV
We present correlations between strange baryons and mesons with charged
hadrons in AuAu and pp collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV for different pT ranges
and centralities. We observe that for central AuAu collisions, the large width
of the back side correlations indicates a collapse of the jet structure. This
is consistent with previous measurement of suppression of the back side
correlation for unidentified charged hadrons. However, in the medium pT range
the same side correlations show large AA/pp ratios and wek centrality
dependencies which indicate different medium modification of the soft jet
components. For different leading particle species we have found no significant
difference for both same side and back side correlations. These results are
comparable to PHENIX's measurements in similar pT rangeComment: proceeding for HQ200

It is pointed out that current conservation alone does not suffice to prove
Hara's theorem as it was claimed recently. By explicit calculation we show that
the additional implicit assumption made in such "proofs" is that of a

Weak radiative hyperon decays, Hara's theorem and the diquark
Weak radiative hyperon decays are discussed in the diquark-level approach. It
is pointed out that in the general diquark formalism one may reproduce the
experimentally suggested pattern of asymmetries, while maintaining Hara's
theorem in the SU(3) limit. At present, however, no detailed quark-based model
of parity-violating diquark-photon coupling exists that would have the
