The analysis and design of transonic two-element airfoil systems

    Get PDF
The multiphase effort in the development of tools for the analysis and design of two-element airfoil systems, that is, airfoils with a slat or a flap at transonic speeds is described. The first phase involved the development of a method to compute the inviscid flow over such configurations. In the second phase the inviscid code was coupled to a boundary layer calculation program in order to compute the loss in performance due to viscous effects. An inverse code that constructs the airfoil system corresponding to a desired pressure distribution is described

Hopf Algebras of Heap Ordered Trees and Permutations

It is known that there is a Hopf algebra structure on the vector space with basis all heap-ordered trees. We give a new bialgebra structure on the space with basis all permutations and show that there is a direct bialgebra isomorphism between the Hopf algebra of heap-ordered trees and the bialgebra of permutations.Comment: 10 pages LaTeX, minor revisio

The realization of input-output maps using bialgebras

    Get PDF
The theory of bialgebras is used to prove a state space realization theorem for input/output maps of dynamical systems. This approach allows for the consideration of the classical results of Fliess and more recent results on realizations involving families of trees. Two examples of applications of the theorum are given

A simple example of modeling hybrid systems using bialgebras: Preliminary version

    Get PDF
The authors describe how to construct a hybrid control system using a specific set of data and conditions specified within the paper. Furthermore, they give examples of how to create continuous systems, discrete systems, and simple hybrid systems. Finally, they touch upon Heisenberg and state space representation

    New Physics Effects in B→K(∗)ννB \to K^(*) \nu \nu Decays

We present a model-independent analysis of rare B decays, B→K(∗)ννB \to K^{(*)} \nu \nu. The effect of possible new physics is written in terms of dimension-6 four-fermi interactions. The lepton number violating scalar- and tensor-type interactions are included, and they induce B→K(∗)νν(νˉνˉ)B \to K^{(*)} \nu \nu ({\bar \nu} {\bar \nu}) decays. We show systematically how the branching ratios and missing mass-squared spectrum depend on the coefficients of the four-fermi interactions.Comment: 20 pages with 7 figure

    F-15 flight flutter test program

    Get PDF
The modes to be observed during the F-15 flight flutter test program were selected on the basis of the results of analytical studies, wind tunnel tests, and ground vibration tests. The modes (both symmetrical and antisymmetrical) tracked on this basis were: fin first bending, fin torsion, fin tip roll, stabilator bending, stabilator pitch, boom lateral bending, boom torsion, boom vertical bending, wing first bending, wing second bending, wing first torsion, outer wing torsion, and aileron rotation. Data obtained for these various modes were evaluated in terms of damping versus airspeed at 1525 m (5000 ft), damping versus altitude at the cross-section Mach numbers (to extrapolate to the damping value to be expected at sea level), and flutter boundaries on the basis of flutter margin of various modal pairs representing potential flutter mechanisms. Results of these evaluations are summarized in terms of minimum predicted flutter margin for the various mechanisms
