Emotion-Antecedent Appraisal Checks: EEG and EMG datasets for Goal Conduciveness, Control and Power
This document describes the full details of the second data set (Study 2) used in Coutinho et al., to appear. The Electroencephalography (EEG) and facial Electromyography (EMG) signals included in this data set, and now made public, were collected in the context of a previous study by Gentsch, Grandjean, and Scherer, 2013 that addressed three fundamental questions regarding the mechanisms underlying the appraisal process: Whether appraisal criteria are processed (1) in a fixed sequence, (2) independent of each other, and (3) by different neural structures or circuits. In this study, a gambling task was applied in which feedback stimuli manipulated simultaneously the information about goal conduciveness, control, and power appraisals. EEG was recorded during task performance, together with facial EMG, to measure, respectively, cognitive processing and efferent responses stemming from the appraisal manipulations
A Magnetic and Moessbauer Spectral Study of Core/Shell Structured Fe/Au Nanoparticles
Fe/Au nanoparticles have been chemically synthesized through a reverse
micelle reaction and investigated by both conventional and synchrotron based
x-ray diffraction and by magnetic and Moessbauer spectral studies. The powder
x-ray diffraction patterns reveal both the presence of crystalline alpha-iron
and gold and the absence of any crystalline iron oxides or other crystalline
products. First-order reversal curves, along with the major hysteresis loops of
the Fe/Au nanoparticles have been measured as a function of time in order to
investigate the evolution of their magnetic properties. The iron-57 Moessbauer
spectra of both uncoated iron nanoparticles and the Fe/Au nanoparticles have
been measured at 78 and 295 K and indicate that two major iron containing
components are present, namely the expected alpha-iron and the unexpected
amorphous Fe1-xBx alloy; several poorly crystallized ordered iron(III) oxide
components as well as paramagnetic iron(II) and iron(III) components are also
observed. These results indicate that the Fe-core/Au-shell nanoparticles
synthesized through reverse micelles are far more complex that had been
believed.Comment: 31 pages, 1 table, 8 figures, to appear in Chemistry of Material
Emotion-Antecedent Appraisal Checks: EEG and EMG datasets for Novelty and Pleasantness [Data set]
This document describes the full details of
the first data set (Study 1) used in Coutinho
et al., to appear. The Electroencephalography
(EEG) and facial Electromyography (EMG) signals
included in this dataset, and now made public,
were collected in the context of a previous study by
Peer, Grandjean, and Scherer, 2014 that addressed
three fundamental questions regarding the mechanisms
underlying the appraisal process: Whether
appraisal criteria are processed (a) in a fixed sequence,
(b) independent of each other, and (c) by
different neural structures or circuits. In that study,
an oddball paradigm with affective pictures was
used to experimentally manipulate novelty and intrinsic
pleasantness appraisals. EEG was recorded
during task performance, together with facial EMG,
to measure, respectively, cognitive processing and
efferent responses stemming from the appraisal
manipulations
Large K-exciton dynamics in GaN epilayers: the non-thermal and thermal regime
We present a detailed investigation concerning the exciton dynamics in GaN
epilayers grown on c-plane sapphire substrates, focussing on the exciton
formation and the transition from the nonthermal to the thermal regime. The
time-resolved kinetics of LO-phonon replicas is used to address the energy
relaxation in the excitonic band. From ps time-resolved spectra we bring
evidence for a long lasting non-thermal excitonic distribution which accounts
for the rst 50 ps. Such a behavior is con rmed in di erent experimental
conditions, both when non-resonant and resonant excitation are used. At low
excitation power density the exciton formation and their subsequent
thermalization is dominated by impurity scattering rather than by acoustic
phonon scattering. The estimate of the average energy of the excitons as a
function of delay after the excitation pulse provides information on the
relaxation time, which describes the evolution of the exciton population to the
thermal regime.Comment: 9 pages,8 figure
