A Man Without: A Search for Personal Identity

    Get PDF
This thesis documents the process of devising, writing, rehearsing, and performing a solo show named A Man Without. The play depicts the posthumous trial of a multi-religious man named Neelkanth Khan. To be freed from limbo, Neelkanth must defend his life before Jesus, Krishna and Allah. Unfortunately, Neelkanth loses his case; yet another failure for a man whose life was a series of failures due to his circumstances and his character flaws. On the thematic level, this story implies that mankind’s failure to understand religion and the Gods leads to religious fanaticism. The backbone of this project is the training I received during the M.F.A. Acting Program at Louisiana State University. This paper details the important hurdles and breakthroughs in the process of writing, rehearsing, and performing this play. It also includes a rehearsal draft and the full performance script for A Man Without

University of Missouri--Columbia 2010.Injurious falls have been one of the major problems in elderly people and not providing medical assistance to those patients on time may increase complications. We developed a "Smart Carpet", which detects the personal motion. It can be utilized to detect the falls and automatically call for assistance. This system has two major parts: the sensors, which sense the walking and the personal computer with internet connectivity, which displays the motion as well as can call automatically for assistance after detecting a fall. The lack of feasibility to maintain one computer per room raises the need of a smart electronic instrument to gather the sensor data of a room and forward it to a central computer. The use of a smart electronic device reduces the number of computers used and hence the cost. Our aim was to develop a low cost and reliable electronics system, which can consistently accumulate data from sensors and transmit it to the personal computer. In the initial stages of development to gain the confidence on the system, we implemented systems using low numbers of sensors and after achieving success, built systems with larger numbers of sensors but using only one microcontroller. In the final stage of development, we created a wireless network in which 4 microcontrollers act as nodes and communicate with each other using wireless channel for transferring the sensor data of different areas to the personal computer. By achieving satisfactory results, we have gained a confidence that the electronics system developed in the concluding stage is highly reliable, accurate and can be extensively used for further development.Includes bibliographical references

Analytical Study of Non-Recessed Conical Hole Entry Hybrid/Hydrostatic Journal Bearing with Constant Flow Valve Restrictor

    Get PDF
The present work studies the analysis of a non recessed hole entry conical hybrid/hydrostatic journal bearing adjusted for constant flow valve (CFV) restriction. The paper provides effectiveness between the conical bearings with hole entry operating in hybrid and hydrostatic mode. The Reynolds formulae, for the flow of fluid through the mating surfaces of a conical journal and bearing, are numerically worked out in both the modes considering the finite element analysis (FEA) and the necessary boundary preconditions. Holes in double row are marked on conical bearing circumference to accommodate the CFV restrictors, the angular distance between two holes are 30o apart from the apex. Qualitative features of the conical journal bearing system with hole entry have been elaborated to analyze bearing performance for radial load variation Wr = 0.25-2. Numerical results obtained from the present study indicate that load carrying capacity of conical bearing, operating in hydrostatic mode, is enhanced by the maximum pressure, direct fluid film damping and direct film stiffness coefficients vis-a-vis corresponding hybrid mode. &nbsp

A microwave-assisted synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one/thione derivatives using nanocrystalline MgFe2O4 as catalyst

    Get PDF
3,4-Dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one/thione derivatives were synthesized in moderate to high yields via one-pot three component Biginelli reaction of aldehydes, ethyl acetoacetate and urea/thiourea in the presence of nanocrystalline MgFe2O4 as an efficient catalyst, in microwave irradiation under solvent free condition. This protocol offers several advantages including good yields of products, short reaction time and easy work-up procedure

Overcoming Poor Solubility of Dimenhydrinate: Development, Optimization and Evaluation of Fast Dissolving Oral Film

    Get PDF
Purpose: To develop fast dissolving oral film to address vomiting and nausea in pediatric population. Methods: Oral films of Dimenhydrinate were prepared by solvent casting method by using hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose E5 (HPMC E5), polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG 400) and croscarmellose sodium. Solubility of dimenhydrinate was enhanced by ethanol as a co-solvent. To make dimenhydrinate palatable sodium saccharin and peppermint oil were used. All films were evaluated for mechanical parameters, surface pH, morphology, disintegration time and percent dissolution. Results: Films were smooth, acceptable and white in colour. For optimized batch, drug content (99.106%), disintegration time (25 sec), dissolution (99.10% in 210 sec), surface pH (6.81) were acceptable. Conclusion: Optimized batch, due to its potential to deliver through fast dissolving film, can be developed for clinical use

An experiment was conducted to study the protective role of polyherbal feed supplement (Toxiroak®) during induced mycotoxicosis in broilers. A total of 240 Vencobb one-day-old broilers were divided into eight equal groups. Group A served as control and was given plain feed. Groups B, D, F and H were given Toxiroak® at 0.75 g/kg of feed. Groups C, D, G and H were given dietary aflatoxin B1 at 0.2 ppm, and Groups E, F, G and H were given ochratoxin A at 0.2 ppm in feed to study the effect of Toxiroak® on individual aflatoxicosis, ochratoxicosis and combined mycotoxicosis of broilers. Chicks were given their respective feeds from the 1st day to 6th week of age and were vaccinated at 7th and 28th days of age with a Lasota strain of Newcastle disease virus. There was a significant effect of mycotoxins, individually and in combination, on body mass of broilers. Toxiroak® protected the effect of individual mycotoxins on body mass. Feed conversion ration was highest in Group B birds, followed by Groups A, F, D, H, C, E and G. Significant restoration of haemoglobin and total leukocyte count values in broilers due to feeding of Toxiroak® in co-mycotoxicated and aflatoxins-fed groups, respectively, was observed. There was no significant effect of mycotoxin treatment on packed cell volume and total erythrocyte count in broilers. Due to single and combined mycotoxicosis there was a reduction in serum total protein, cholesterol and triglyceride and a rise in creatinine and uric acid levels. Supplementation of diets with Toxiroak® reduced the changes induced due to mycotoxins. There was a significant increase in the percentage organ weight of liver, and a reduction in that of spleen, bursa of Fabricius and thymus of broilers fed mycotoxins. Protection of changes in the percentage of organ mass of these organs by supplementation of Toxiroak® was recorded only in respect of bursa of Fabricius. The observed impaired immune response and histopathological changes in liver, kidney, spleen, bursa of Fabricius and thymus of broilers given mycotoxins was protected by Toxiroak® supplementation.
