    On the warp drive space-time

In this paper the problem of the quantum stability of the two-dimensional warp drive spacetime moving with an apparent faster than light velocity is considered. We regard as a maximum extension beyond the event horizon of that spacetime its embedding in a three-dimensional Minkowskian space with the topology of the corresponding Misner space. It is obtained that the interior of the spaceship bubble becomes then a multiply connected nonchronal region with closed timelike curves and that the most natural vacuum allows quantum fluctuations which do not induce any divergent behaviour of the re-normalized stress-energy tensor, even on the event (Cauchy) chronology horizon. In such a case, the horizon encloses closed timelike curves only at scales close to the Planck length, so that the warp drive satisfies the Ford's negative energy-time inequality. Also found is a connection between the superluminal two-dimensional warp drive space and two-dimensional gravitational kinks. This connection allows us to generalize the considered Alcubierre metric to a standard, nonstatic metric which is only describable on two different coordinate patchesComment: 7 pages, minor comment on chronology protection added, RevTex, to appear in Phys. AbstractIntroductionThe University has as one of its tasks to better know the profiles and trajectories of students, so that supporting innovative and functional policies can be designed and implemented.ObjectiveTo analyze the profile of students enrolling into the Nursing Undergraduate System at the Iztacala and Zaragoza Superior Studies Faculty.MethodBasic-descriptive study with freshmen students of the 2011 -I generation of the Nursing Bachelors Degree program at the FES Zaragoza and Iztacala. The population was 600 alumni. A questionnaire was used to gather data. The instrument reliability was equivalent to a 0.875 Cronbach Alpha score. A SPSS8 database was created and data were analyzed through descriptive statistics.ResultsThe 49% of the students came from the “automatic pass” format. The enrollment grade point average went from 8.1 to 9.0. For the 61% of the students, nursing was their first choice of major. The socioeconomic level of the students was low. The 76% of the students obtained a grade point average between 8.0 and 10.0 during all their freshman year.DiscussionUnlike other careers at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Nursing accepts almost 50% of the prospects from external schools, situation which does not occur in other careers. Although the majority of students who entered have a low social-economical level, they have other favorable characteristics for their school trajectory such as a good grade point average and that they were accepted in the career that they chose

Application of light in chemistry presents an active field of research with a very promising outlook, particularly in technology and medicine. Molecules which mediate the transfer of light to another molecule (photosensitizers) are the cornerstone of exploitation of light. The current state of research and recent progress in applications of photosensitizers in diverse fields are documented in twelve chapters written by scientists from around the world. Chapter 1 gives a general overview on the applications of photosensitizers in synthetic organic chemistry. This review is followed by Chapters 2-7, which deal with the various applications of photosensitizers in medicine, in particular for photodynamic cancer therapy. The subsequent Chapters 8-12 cover different aspects of applications of photosensitizers in material science, such as for dye-sensitized solar cells and photo-responsive materials

Since 2003, a stratified random summer bottom trawl survey was conducted by Spain in the NAFO Regulatory Area of Division 3L (Flemish Pass). The surveys were carried out by the R/V “Vizconde de Eza” using bottom trawl net type Campelen 1800. Entire series of mean catches, biomass and length distribution for Greenland halibut, American plaice and witch flounder are presented for the period 2003-2015. Greenland halibut biomass and abundance estimates show an increasing trend since 2011, reaching the maximum values in the series in 2008 and 2014. In last years it can be seen a presence of juveniles (around 12-15 cm). American plaice biomass and abundance estimates present an increasing trend since 2010, reaching in 2015 the highest value in the series. Regarding witch flounder, the biomass and abundance increased in 2015, but there is no a clear trend in the whole period 2003-2015.Postprint0,000

Wormholes and Ringholes in a Dark-Energy Universe

The effects that the present accelerating expansion of the universe has on the size and shape of Lorentzian wormholes and ringholes are considered. It is shown that, quite similarly to how it occurs for inflating wormholes, relative to the initial embedding-space coordinate system, whereas the shape of the considered holes is always preserved with time, their size is driven by the expansion to increase by a factor which is proportional to the scale factor of the universe. In the case that dark energy is phantom energy, which is not excluded by present constraints on the dark-energy equation of state, that size increase with time becomes quite more remarkable, and a rather speculative scenario is here presented where the big rip can be circumvented by future advanced civilizations by utilizing sufficiently grown up wormholes and ringholes as time machines that shortcut the big-rip singularity.Comment: 11 pages, RevTex, to appear in Phys.
