    Strategic Formulation of CIEE Lisbon

    Get PDF
In an era in which the market is increasingly competitive and globalized, companies are forced to rethink and innovate their strategy. This investigation aims to determine if CIEE Lisbon is implementing corporate strategies in order to reach its strategic goals and increase its business performance. This study used a qualitative methodology based on detailed content analysis of 18 interviews. The article concludes that CIEE is implementing diversification strategies that allow it to grow organically and to create barriers to new competitors. It is also possible to conclude that the formation of strategic alliances is vital in the company's success, having a direct and positive impact on consumer satisfaction. Finally, this research shows that a merger and/or acquisition is not a viable option for the company at this time.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Individual actors and embeddedness in business-to-business interactions

Individual actors are hardly ever considered in business-to-business marketing literature. This paper uses Service-dominant Logic and Neo-institutional Theory as the bases for twelve case studies. These case studies provide a better understanding of how individuals who represent firms make sense of the social rules, norms, procedures, values, and beliefs of the network (i.e. institutional logics) where they are embedded and how the business interaction is shaped by those influences, through the individual behaviour. This paper makes two main contributions. First, we develop an empirical model of how individuals consider the institutional logics of the network in interactions with suppliers. Second, we present three patterns of individual behavior in interactions, different from what is often assumed by business-to-business researchers. Managerial contributions are also pointed out.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

How service design can improve the patient experience

    Get PDF
Significant changes are taking place in healthcare organisations, where the pressure is increasing to develop personalised services that meet patients' needs while integrating the necessary resources. This research joins a stream of research that suggests that healthcare can be more patient-centred, where the role of the patient is redefined from passive recipient to more active and collaborative participant. Through the feedback of patients and health providers, the service design should improve service quality. It is essential first to identify the challenges in the service that need to be improved. The present study was developed according to answers given by patients and health providers from Portuguese cardiology units. Data were collected using two questionnaires. The main findings show that patient satisfaction is very high but can be improved through efficient management and digital innovationinfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Agronomic performance of plantain genotypes and genetic variability using Ward-MLM algorithm.

Plantains in Brazil are produced from the `Terra Maranhão?, ?Terrinha? and ?D´Angola? cultivars, which are all susceptible to black Sigatoka, weevils and nematodes. Therefore, the development of resistant plantain cultivars with agronomic characteristics aligned with market demands is the most efficient way to overcome these barriers regarding fruit production. The objectives of this work were to evaluate plantain cultivars for agronomic and physicochemical characteristics, and to estimate their genetic variability using ISSR molecular markers. The experimental design used was randomized block with ten plantain genotypes distributed in five blocks with four plants per plot. Ten agronomic and five physicochemical characteristics were measured. The agronomic, physicochemical and molecular (ISSR) characteristics were analyzed together using the Ward-MLM algorithm. Based on the agronomic and physicochemical evaluations, the ?Red Yad?, ?Curare Enano? and ?Chifre de Vaca? genotypes could potentially be recommended to farmers, especially due to their short height and higher bunch mass and number of hands. The analysis of the combined data using the Ward-MLM algorithm identified genetic variability that, although restricted, can be used for genetic improvement strategies. To the best of our knowledge this is the first work that validates new plantains under Brazilian conditions, increasing cultivar options for farmers
