    O corpo negado pela sua “extrema subjetividade”: expressões da colonialidade do saber na ética em pesquisa

    In the quest to understand the (in)visibility of non-heteronormative bodies in medical education, a process that systematically grounds its institutional discourse on the biological coherence, I looked at my gay body both as a doctor and professor to understand this culture and its consequences. The objective of the article is to discuss the initial institutional confrontations faced by an autoethnographic research regarding homoaffectivity in medical education and practice. This work is aimed towards understanding the silencing imposed on subjectivity, existence and participation as a subject-researcher in “Science”.     Comparison between an integral and algebraic formulation for the eddy diffusivity using the Copenhagen experimental dataset

    In this work an algebraic formulation to evaluate the eddy diffusivities in the Convective Boundary Layer (CBL) is derived. The expression depends on the turbulence properties (z height dependence) and the distance from the source. It is based on the turbulent kinetic energy spectra and Taylor’s statistical diffusion theory. It has been tested and compared through an experimental dataset, with another complex integral formulation taken from the literature. The Agreement between the complex integral formulation and simple algebraic expression points out that this new parameterization is valid and can be used as a surrogate for eddy diffusivities in the inhomogeneous convective turbulence present in the CBL. The validation shows that the proposed algebraic vertical eddy diffusivity is suitable for application in advanced air quality regulatory models

    Fine-needle Aspiration Biopsy For Breast Lesions: A Comparison Between Two Devices For Obtaining Cytological Samples

    Context and Objective: Fine-needle aspiration biopsy has been accepted worldwide for breast lesions. However, some questions remain, including the appropriateness of the puncture method. The objective of this work was to compare aspirates obtained by the auto-vacuum device and by the syringe pistol holder. Design and Setting: Randomized trial for validation of diagnostic method, at Hospital das Clinicas do Universidade Federal de Goiás and Hospital Araújo Jorge, Goiânio. Methods: 351 patients presenting breast lumps underwent fine-needle aspiration biopsy, either with the auto-vacuum device or the syringe pistol holder. A single cytopathologist analyzed all of the cytology slides. The rates of insufficient material, cellularity, cell distortion and background hemorrhage were evaluated. Results: The percentages of insufficient material were 16% and 22% (p = 0.18), for the auto-vacuum and pistol aspirates, respectively. Good cellularity was seen in 34% of autovacuum and 29% of pistol samples (p = 0.4). Cell distortion was seen in 31 and 26 cases, respectively (p = 07). Background hemorrhage occurred in 63 (35%) and 54 cases (31%) (p = 0.2), for auto-vacuum and pistol. The sensitivity was 88% and 86%; specificity 99% and 100%, positive predictive value 96% and and 100%, negative predictive value 96% and 95% and total occuracy 76% and 75% for the auto-vacuum and pistol, respectively. Conclusion: The results obtained from the two fine-needle aspiration biopsy methods were equivalent.     On Factor Universality in Symbolic Spaces

    The study of factoring relations between subshifts or cellular automata is central in symbolic dynamics. Besides, a notion of intrinsic universality for cellular automata based on an operation of rescaling is receiving more and more attention in the literature. In this paper, we propose to study the factoring relation up to rescalings, and ask for the existence of universal objects for that simulation relation. In classical simulations of a system S by a system T, the simulation takes place on a specific subset of configurations of T depending on S (this is the case for intrinsic universality). Our setting, however, asks for every configurations of T to have a meaningful interpretation in S. Despite this strong requirement, we show that there exists a cellular automaton able to simulate any other in a large class containing arbitrarily complex ones. We also consider the case of subshifts and, using arguments from recursion theory, we give negative results about the existence of universal objects in some classes

    Turbulent dispersion from tall stack in the unstable boundary layer: a comparison between Gaussian and K-diffusion modelling for non buoyant emissions

    Most air quality dispersionmo dels used for regulatory applications are based onGaussianan d K-diffusionform ulations. The reliability of such models strongly depends on how dispersion parameters and eddy diffusivities are computed on the basis of the update understanding of the Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL) meteorology. In this paper, we compare the performances in simulating pollutants released from continuous point source, by using some Gaussian and K-diffusion models with different assumptions concerning the parameterisation of the dispersionpro cesses. Results show that the Gaussianmo del, inwhic h the dispersion parameters are directly related to spectral peak of turbulence energy, gives the best overall performances. This could be due to a more realistic description of spreading processes occurring into the PBL. This suggests that, in the context of the regulatory applications, this model cangiv e the best combinationb etweengroun d level concentration estimates and computer requirements

    Endocrine disruptive action of diclofenac and caffeine on Astyanax altiparanae males (Teleostei: Characiformes: Characidae)

    Diclofenac (DCF) and caffeine (CAF) are persistent pharmaceuticals that occur in mixtures in the aquatic ecosystems causing effects in the reproductive physiology of aquatic organisms. This study evaluated the physiological reproductive responses of Astyanax altiparanae males exposed to nominal concentrations of DCF (3.08 mg L− 1) and CAF (9.59 mg L− 1) separately and combined, for 96 h. The steroids profile, estrogenic biomarker vitellogenin (vtgA), testes and liver morphology, and also mortality of males were assessed. DCF and CAF degradation was 5% of the initial concentration for 24 h. The LC50 of the DCF and CAF were 30.8 mg L− 1 and 95.9 mg L− 1, respectively. Males exposed to DCF and CAF exhibited a reduction of 17β-Estradiol (E2) concentration compared to control (CTL). Similarly, testosterone (T) was also reduced in the DCF treatment, but this response was not observed in 11-Ketotestosterone (11-KT). Males exposed to DCF + CAF combined did not exhibit differences in T, E2 and 11-KT steroids. The vtgA gene expression and the sperm concentration did not change among the treatments. Moreover, acute exposure revealed a hypertrophy of hepatocytes cells in the DCF and DCF + CAF treatments. In conclusion, DCF and CAF, isolated, exhibit an endocrine disruptive activity in A. altiparanae male, an opposite response observed with the mixture of both compounds that abolishes the endocrine disruptive effects.     Primers microssatélites validados em tilápia do nilo no gene da aromatase cerebral (Cyp19b)

    Aromatase cytochrome P450 is an enzyme that is responsible for a key step in the biosynthesis of estrogens, which is linked to reproduction. This enzyme is a product of the gene Cyp19 and catalyzes the formation of estrogen from androgen. Estrogen is essential for the development of the gonads and various other physiological processes, ranging from normal growth to reproductive behavior. This study aimed at validation of primers for  microsatellite locus in the regulatory region of gene Cyp19b in Oreochromis niloticus. Thirty samples of three strains were  analyzed: Chitralada and Supreme from larviculture Aquabel, and GIFT from the State University of Maringá (Paraná, Brazil). After extraction of DNA, the samples were subjected to PCR using primers designed to flank a microsatellite region. After confirmation of amplification, the samples were subjected to electrophoretic separation in the apparatus Origins  (Elchrom Scientific, USA) to identify the alleles. A polymorphism in the regulatory region of Cyp19b was identified in the three strains. Three alleles, ranging from 123 to 141 bp, were observed. The primers for amplification of microsatellite in the regulatory region of gene Cyp19b were efficient and, therefore, they may be used for identification of mutations in this region in typical microsatellite analysis.  Studies are being conducted to correlate the effect of temperature with the alleles observed in the animals sampled and the resulting sex ratio.A aromatase citocromo P450 é uma enzima que é responsável por um passo chave na biossíntese de estrogênio que está ligado à reprodução. Esta enzima é um produto do gene Cyp19 e catalisa a formação de estrogênio a partir de androgênio. O estrogênio é essencial para o desenvolvimento das gônadas e diversos processos fisiológicos, que vão desde o crescimento normal até o comportamento reprodutivo. Este estudo teve como objetivo a validação de primers para locus microssatélite presente na região regulatória do gene Cyp19b de Oreochromis niloticus. Trinta amostras de três linhagens: Chitralada e Supreme da larvicultura Aquabel e GIFT da Universidade Estadual de Maringá – PR foram analisadas. Após a extração de DNA as amostras foram submetidas a PCR utilizando os primers desenhados para flanquear a região microssatélite. Após a confirmação da amplificação as amostras foram submetidas à separação eletroforética no aparato Origins  (Elchrom Scientific, USA) para identificação dos alelos. Foi verificada a existência um polimorfismo na região promotora de  Cyp19b  nas três linhagens. Observamos três alelos, variando entre 123 e 141 pb. Os primers para a amplificação de microssatélite na região regulatória do gene Cyp19b foram eficientes e, portanto, seu uso para identificação de mutações nesta região pode ser empregada na análise típica de microssatélite. Estudos estão sendo conduzidos para correlacionar o efeito da temperatura com os alelos observados nos animais amostrados e a proporção de sexo resultante.&nbsp

    The Brazilian Developments On The Regional Atmospheric Modeling System (brams 5.2): An Integrated Environmental Model Tuned For Tropical Areas

This new version also has a new set of state-of-the-art physical parameterizations and greater computational parallel and memory usage efficiency. The description of the main model features includes several examples illustrating the quality of the transport scheme for scalars, radiative fluxes on surface, and model simulation of rainfall systems over South America at different spatial resolutions using a scale aware convective parameterization. Additionally, the simulation of the diurnal cycle of the convection and carbon dioxide concentration over the Amazon Basin, as well as carbon dioxide fluxes from biogenic processes over a large portion of South America, are shown. Atmospheric chemistry examples show the model performance in simulating near-surface carbon monoxide and ozone in the Amazon Basin and the megacity of Rio de Janeiro. For tracer transport and dispersion, the model capabilities to simulate the volcanic ash 3-D redistribution associated with the eruption of a Chilean volcano are demonstrated. The gain of computational efficiency is described in some detail. BRAMS has been applied for research and operational forecasting mainly in South America. Model results from the operational weather forecast of BRAMS on 5km grid spacing in the Center for Weather Forecasting and Climate Studies, INPE/Brazil, since 2013 are used to quantify the model skill of near-surface variables and rainfall. The scores show the reliability of BRAMS for the tropical and subtropical areas of South America. Requirements for keeping this modeling system competitive regarding both its functionalities and skills are discussed.
