    Influence of opposition team formation on physical and skill-related performance in a professional soccer team

    This study examined the influence of opposition team formation on physical and skill-related performance in a professional soccer team. Performance in forty-five French League 1 matches played over three competitive seasons (2007-08, 2008-09, and 2009-10) was analysed using multi-camera computerised tracking. Players (n=21) in the reference team (using a 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation) were analysed in matches against three opposition team formations: 4-4-2 (11 games), 4-3-3/4-5-1 (16 games) and 4-2-3-1 (18 games). Performance was compared for defending and midfield units as a whole and individually across four positions: fullbacks, central-defenders and central- and wide-midfielders. Collectively, players covered a greater total distance (p<0.05) and distance in low/moderate-intensity running (0-14.3km/h) (p<0.05) in matches against a 4-2-3-1 compared to a 4-4-2 formation. Distance covered in high-intensity (14.4-19.7km/h) and very high-intensity running (≥19.8km/h) was not affected by opposition formation. In contrast, players covered more distance in total high-intensity performance (≥14.4km/h) when the reference team was in possession against a 4-4-2 compared to a 4-2-3-1 formation (p<0.05) while more distance was run at these speeds when the reference team was out of possession against a 4-2-3-1 (p<0.01) and a 4-3-3 (p<0.05) compared to a 4-4-2 formation. Players ran less distance at low/moderate intensities in the second- versus first-half of matches against all three formations (p<0.01 to p<0.05) whereas total distance and high-intensity performance was unaffected. None of the measures of physical performance across the individual playing positions were affected by opposition team formation. Skill-related performance varied according to opposition formation: players as a whole performed more passes versus a 4-4-2 than a 4-2-3-1 (p<0.01), ground and aerial duels versus a 4-2-3-1 compared to a 4-4-2 (both p<0.01); 1-touch passes versus a 4-2-3-1 compared to a 4-4-2 (p<0.01) and a 4-3-3/4-5-1 (p<0.05). The mean number of touches per possession was highest versus a 4-4-2 compared to a 4-3-3/4-5-1 (p<0.01) and a 4-2-3-1 (p<0.01). While skill-related performance across the four individual playing positions was generally unaffected by opposition team formation, mean pass length was greater in central-midfielders against a 4-4-2 compared to 4-3-3/4-5-1 (p<0.05) and 4-2-3-1 (p<0.01) formations. In general, these findings suggest that physical performance in the reference team was not greatly affected by opposition team formation. In contrast, skill-related demands varied substantially according to opponent formation and may have consequences for tactical and technical preparation and team selection policies

    99mTc-Ciprofloxacin Imaging: Still an Unsettled Issue?

    The objective of this work consisted in the assessment of 99mTc-ciprofloxacin imaging performance as a diagnostic tool in an experimental rat model of osteomyelitis. Bone (tibia) infection was induced in adult rats by inoculation of a suspension containing S. aureus suspended in fibrin glue. In vivo studies by means of small animal imaging were conducted using a gamma camera. The study shows the correlation between 99mTc-ciprofloxacin positive images with bacterial bone count but also with histopathological findings in an osteomyelitis animal model, highlighting its potential as a tool in preclinical research and the accomplishment of 3Rs concept regarding welfare of laboratory animals. 99mTc-MDP scintigraphy, failed to show these correlations and therefore it may be proposed as a complementary method to diagnose and follow up the bone physiopathology in this animal model. Future perspectives of small animal imaging in order to potentiate osteomyelitis basic research will derive from numerous research works, and 99mTc-ciprofloxacin may still be a candidate for infectious diagnose and follow-up as demonstrated in this study

    Changes of solar cell parameters during damp-heat exposure

    The degradation of PV modules during damp-heat exposure is investigated. Power degradation is analysed in dependence of temperature and humidity during exposure. The module’s equivalent circuit parameters are calculated from I-V characteristics measured during ageing. A dose function is developed and degradations of power as well as equivalent circuit parameters can be analysed against the dose, which provides a better understanding of the module ageing behaviour. EL images of modules before and after ageing support the changes of solar cell parameters

    . Likewise, there is little known about the spatiality of outbreaks. We examined the spatial patterns of WBD during a 2004 outbreak at Buck Island Reef National Monument in the US Virgin Islands. colonies with and without WBD.As the search for causation continues, surveillance and proper documentation of the spatial patterns may inform etiology, and at the same time assist reef managers in allocating resources to tracking the disease. Our results indicate that the spatial scale of data collected can drastically affect the calculation of prevalence and spatial distribution of WBD outbreaks. Specifically, we illustrate that higher resolution sampling resulted in more realistic disease estimates. This should assist in selecting appropriate sampling designs for future outbreak investigations. The spatial techniques used here can be used to facilitate other coral disease studies, as well as, improve reef conservation and management

    Las neoplasias de las glándulas salivales constituyen aproximadamente el 3% de todos los tumores de cabeza y cuello. La neoplasia más frecuente que involucra tanto a las glándulas salivales mayores como menores es el Adenoma Pleomorfo. Se presenta con mayor frecuencia en glándula parótida. En glándulas salivales menores, el paladar es el sitio de elección. Es un tumor indoloro, de crecimiento lento. El rango de edad de aparición es entre los 30 y 50 años y es más frecuente en el sexo femenino que el masculino con una relación de 2 a 1. Presentamos un caso clínico de muy baja frecuencia de aparición en cuanto a la localización en un paciente de sexo femenino de 67 años de edad a la que se le diagnosticó Adenoma Pleomorfo en la región del trígono retromolar
