    We calculate the rate for DsDsπ0D_s^* \rightarrow D_s \pi^0 decay using Chiral Perturbation Theory. This isospin violating process results from π0\pi^0 - η\eta mixing, and its amplitude is proportional to (mdmu)/(ms(mu+md)/2)(m_d - m_u)/\bigl(m_s-(m_u+m_d)/2 \bigr). Experimental information on the branching ratio for DsDsπ0D_s^* \rightarrow D_s \pi^0 can provide insight into the pattern of SU(3)SU(3) violation in radiative DD^* decays.Comment: 7 pages with 2 figures not included but available upon request, CALT-68-191

    Description and flight tests of an oculometer

    A remote sensing oculometer was successfully operated during flight tests with a NASA experimental Twin Otter aircraft at the Langley Research Center. Although the oculometer was designed primarily for the laboratory, it was able to track the pilot's eye-point-of-regard (lookpoint) consistently and unobtrusively in the flight environment. The instantaneous position of the lookpoint was determined to within approximately 1 deg. Data were recorded on both analog and video tape. The video data consisted of continuous scenes of the aircraft's instrument display and a superimposed white dot (simulating the lookpoint) dwelling on an instrument or moving from instrument to instrument as the pilot monitored the display information during landing approaches

    Signatures of multiple episodes of AGN activity in the core of Abell 1795

    In this paper we analyze AGN activity signatures in the rich nearby galaxy cluster Abell 1795 aiming to confirm and characterize the long-term feedback history in the system. We combine radio observations at 610 and 235 MHz from the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) with 3.4 Msec X-ray data from the Chandra Observatory. Extracting radial temperature profiles, as well as X-ray and radio surface brightness profiles in three directions showing major morphological disturbances, we highlight the signatures of activity in the system. For the first time we observe radio emission corresponding to the NW X-ray depression, which provides evidence in favor of the classification of the depression as a cavity. We identify two other X-ray cavities situated NW and SW of the AGN. While the central radio emission corresponding to the inner cavities shows a flatter spectral index, the radio extensions associated with the farthest X-ray cavities consist of aged plasma. All observed signatures both in radio and X-ray are consistent with several consecutive episodes of AGN activity, which gave rise to the observed morphology NW and SW from the core. In the southern region, we confirm the cooling wake hypothesis for the origin of the long tail. The deep X-ray data also allows us to distinguish significant distortions in the tail's inner parts, which we attribute to the activity of the AGN

    Chiral Perturbation Theory for τρπντ\tau \to \rho \pi\nu_\tau, τKπντ\tau \to K^* \pi \nu_\tau, and τωπντ\tau \to \omega \pi \nu_\tau

    We use heavy vector meson SU(2)L×SU(2)RSU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R chiral perturbation theory to predict differential decay distributions for τρπντ\tau \rightarrow \rho \pi \nu_\tau and τKπντ\tau \rightarrow K^* \pi \nu_\tau in the kinematic region where pVpπ/mVp_V \cdot p_\pi/m_V (here V=ρV = \rho or KK^*) is much smaller than the chiral symmetry breaking scale. Using the large number of colors limit we also predict the rate for τωπντ\tau \rightarrow \omega \pi \nu_\tau in this region (now V=ωV = \omega). Comparing our prediction with experimental data, we determine one of the coupling constants in the heavy vector meson chiral Lagrangian.Comment: 14 pages, latex 2e.
