The incorporation of polyunsaturated fatty acids into the sn-1 position of egg-yolk phosphatidylcholine (PC) in the process of lipase-catalyzed interesterification was investigated. For this purpose plant oils containing these acids in the triacylglycerol (TAG) form were used as acyl donors and three commercially available immobilized lipases were examined as biocatalysts. In all the experiments the best results were obtained using Novozym 435. After 72 h of the reaction of PC with linseed oil the maximum incorporation of α-linolenic acid into PC was 34%. The result of this reaction was also a reduction in the n-6/n-3 ratio in egg-yolk PC from 24.5 to 0.7. The highest incorporation n-6 PUFAs into PC were obtained with evening primrose oil as the acyl donor, and in this case, 50.7% of n-6 PUFA as the sum of linoleic and γ-linolenic was achieved. The highest content of γ-linolenic acid in modified PC (7.3%) was achieved in the reaction of PC with borage oil.

Measurements of inclusive spectra and mean multiplicities of π±\pi^\pm, K±^\pm, p and pˉ\bar{\textrm{p}} produced in inelastic p+p interactions at incident projectile momenta of 20, 31, 40, 80 and 158 GeV/c (s=\sqrt{s} = 6.3, 7.7, 8.8, 12.3 and 17.3 GeV, respectively) were performed at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron using the large acceptance NA61/SHINE hadron spectrometer. Spectra are presented as function of rapidity and transverse momentum and are compared to predictions of current models. The measurements serve as the baseline in the NA61/SHINE study of the properties of the onset of deconfinement and search for the critical point of strongly interacting matter

Bone turnover markers in sheep and goat: a review of the scientific literature

Bone turnover markers (BTMs) are product of bone cell activity and are generally divided in bone formation and bone resorption markers. The purpose of this review was to structure the available information on the use of BTMs in studies on small ruminants, especially for monitoring their variations related to diet, exercise, gestation and metabolic lactation state, circadian and seasonal variations, and also during skeletal growth. Pre-clinical and translational studies using BTMs with sheep and goats as animal models in orthopaedic research studies to help in the evaluation of the fracture healing process and osteoporosis research are also described in this review. The available information from the reviewed studies was systematically organized in order to highlight the most promising BTMs in small ruminant research, as well as provide a wide view of the use of sheep and goat as animal models in orthopaedic research, type of markers and commercial assay kits with cross-reactivity in sheep and goat, method of sample and storage of serum and urine for bone turnover markers determination and the usefulness and limitations of bone turnover markers in the different studies, therefore an effective tool for researchers that seek answers to different questions while using BTMs in small ruminants.José Arthur de A. This paper presents multiplicity measurements of charged hadrons produced in 120 GeV/cc proton-carbon interactions. The measurements were made using data collected at the NA61/SHINE experiment during two different data-taking periods, with increased phase space coverage in the second configuration due to the addition of new subdetectors. Particle identification via dE/dxdE/dx was employed to obtain double-differential production multiplicities of π+\pi^+, π\pi^-, pp, pˉ\bar{p}, K+K^+ and KK^-. These measurements are presented as a function of laboratory momentum in intervals of laboratory polar angle covering the range from 0 to 450 mrad. They provide crucial inputs for current and future long-baseline neutrino experiments, where they are used to estimate the initial neutrino flux

Precise knowledge of hadron production rates in the generation of neutrino beams is necessary for accelerator-based neutrino experiments to achieve their physics goals. NA61/SHINE, a large-acceptance hadron spectrometer, has recorded hadron + nucleus interactions relevant to ongoing and future longbaseline neutrino experiments at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. This paper presents three analyses of interactions of 60 GeV/c π⁺ with thin, fixed carbon and beryllium targets. Integrated production and inelastic cross sections were measured for both of these reactions. In an analysis of strange, neutral hadron production, differential production multiplicities of K0/S, Λ and Λ̄ were measured. Lastly, in an analysis of charged hadron production, differential production multiplicities of π⁺, π⁻, K⁺, K⁻ and protons were measured. These measurements will enable long-baseline neutrino experiments to better constrain predictions of their neutrino flux in order to achieve better precision on their neutrino cross section and oscillation measurements

This paper presents multiplicity measurements of K0S, Λ, and ¯Λ produced in 120  GeV/c proton-carbon interactions. The measurements were made using data collected at the NA61/SHINE experiment during two different periods. Decays of these neutral hadrons impact the measured π+, π−, p and ¯p multiplicities in the 120  GeV/c proton-carbon reaction, which are crucial inputs for long-baseline neutrino experiment predictions of neutrino beam flux. The double-differential multiplicities presented here will be used to more precisely measure charged-hadron multiplicities in this reaction, and to reweight neutral hadron production in neutrino beam Monte Carlo simulations
