UK Large-scale Wind Power Programme from 1970 to 1990: the Carmarthen Bay experiments and the Musgrove Vertical-Axis Turbines
This article describes the development of the Musgrove Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT)
concept, the UK âCarmarthen Bayâ wind turbine test programme, and UK governmentâs wind
power programme to 1990. One of the most significant developments in the story of British
wind power occurred during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, with the development of the
Musgrove vertical axis wind turbine and its inclusion within the UK Governmentâs wind
turbine test programme. Evolving from a supervisorâs idea for an undergraduate project at
Reading University, the Musgrove VAWT was once seen as an able competitor to the
horizontal axis wind systems that were also being encouraged at the time by both the UK
government and the Central Electricity Generating Board, the then nationalised electricity
utility for England and Wales. During the 1980s and 1990s the most developed Musgrove
VAWT system, along with three other commercial turbine designs was tested at
Carmarthen Bay, South Wales as part of a national wind power test programme. From these
developmental tests, operational data was collected and lessons learnt, which were

Generalized Cauchy means
Given two means M and N, the operator MM,NMM,N assigning to a given mean ÎŒ the mean MM,N(ÎŒ)(x,y)=M(ÎŒ(x,N(x,y)),ÎŒ(N(x,y),y)) was defined in Berrone and Moro (Aequationes Math 60:1â14, 2000) in connection with Cauchy means: the Cauchy mean generated by the pair f, g of continuous and strictly monotonic functions is the unique solution ÎŒ to the fixed point equation MA(f),A(g)(ÎŒ)=ÎŒ, where A(f) and A(g) are the quasiarithmetic means respectively generated by f and g. In this article, the operator MM,NMM,N is studied under less restrictive conditions and a general fixed point theorem is derived from an explicit formula for the iterates MnM,NMM,Nn . The concept of class of generalized Cauchy means associated to a given family of mixing pairs of means is introduced and some distinguished families of pairs are presented. On Kedlaya type inequalities for weighted means
In 2016 we proved that for every symmetric, repetition invariant and Jensen
concave mean the Kedlaya-type inequality holds for an
arbitrary ( stands for the arithmetic mean). We are going
to prove the weighted counterpart of this inequality. More precisely, if
is a vector with corresponding (non-normalized) weights
and denotes the weighted mean then, under
analogous conditions on , the inequality holds for every and such that the sequence

Solar System Processes Underlying Planetary Formation, Geodynamics, and the Georeactor
Only three processes, operant during the formation of the Solar System, are
responsible for the diversity of matter in the Solar System and are directly
responsible for planetary internal-structures, including planetocentric nuclear
fission reactors, and for dynamical processes, including and especially,
geodynamics. These processes are: (i) Low-pressure, low-temperature
condensation from solar matter in the remote reaches of the Solar System or in
the interstellar medium; (ii) High-pressure, high-temperature condensation from
solar matter associated with planetary-formation by raining out from the
interiors of giant-gaseous protoplanets, and; (iii) Stripping of the primordial
volatile components from the inner portion of the Solar System by super-intense
solar wind associated with T-Tauri phase mass-ejections, presumably during the
thermonuclear ignition of the Sun. As described herein, these processes lead
logically, in a causally related manner, to a coherent vision of planetary
formation with profound implications including, but not limited to, (a) Earth
formation as a giant gaseous Jupiter-like planet with vast amounts of stored
energy of protoplanetary compression in its rock-plus-alloy kernel; (b) Removal
of approximately 300 Earth-masses of primordial gases from the Earth, which
began Earth's decompression process, making available the stored energy of
protoplanetary compression for driving geodynamic processes, which I have
described by the new whole-Earth decompression dynamics and which is
responsible for emplacing heat at the mantle-crust-interface at the base of the
crust through the process I have described, called mantle decompression
thermal-tsunami; and, (c)Uranium accumulations at the planetary centers capable

Thermal conductivity of amorphous carbon thin films
Thermal conductivities of amorphous carbon thin films are measured
in the temperatures range 80--400 K using the method. Sample films
range from soft a-C:H prepared by remote-plasma deposition ( W
m K at room temperature) to amorphous diamond with a large
fraction of bonded carbon deposited from a filtered-arc source ( W m K). Effective-medium theory provides a
phenomenological description of the variation of conductivity with mass
density. The thermal conductivities are in good agreement with the minimum
thermal conductivity calculated from the measured atomic density and
longitudinal speed of sound.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
From Deficit to Strength-Based Aboriginal Health ResearchâMoving toward Flourishing
Aboriginal Australians have a fundamental human right to opportunities that lead to healthy and flourishing lives. While the impact of trauma on Aboriginal Australians is well-documented, a pervasive deficit narrative that focuses on problems and pathology persists in research and policy discourse. This narrative risks further exacerbating Aboriginal disadvantage through a focus on 'fixing what is wrong' with Aboriginal Australians and the internalising of these narratives by Aboriginal Australians. While a growing body of research adopts strength-based models, limited research has sought to explore Aboriginal flourishing. This conceptual paper seeks to contribute to a burgeoning paradigm shift in Aboriginal research, seeking to understand what can be learned from Aboriginal people who flourish, how we best determine this, and in what contexts this can be impactful. Within, we argue the case for a new approach to exploring Aboriginal wellbeing that integrates salutogenic, positive psychology concepts with complex systems theory to understand and promote Aboriginal wellbeing and flourishing. While deeper work may be required to establish the parameters of a strength-based, culturally aligned Aboriginal conceptualisation of positive psychology, we suggest the integration of Aboriginal and Western methodologies offers a unique and potent means of shifting the dial on seemingly intractable problems.Jonathan Bullen, Trish Hill-Wall, Kate Anderson, Alex Brown, Clint Bracknell, Elizabeth A.
