AGAPEROS: Searching for variable stars in the LMC Bar with the Pixel Method. I. Detection, astrometry and cross-identification
We extend the work developed in previous papers on microlensing with a
selection of variable stars. We use the Pixel Method to select variable stars
on a set of 2.5 x 10**6 pixel light curves in the LMC Bar presented elsewhere.
The previous treatment was done in order to optimise the detection of long
timescale variations (larger than a few days) and we further optimise our
analysis for the selection of Long Timescale and Long Period Variables
(LT&LPV). We choose to perform a selection of variable objects as comprehensive
as possible, independent of periodicity and of their position on the colour
magnitude diagram. We detail the different thresholds successively applied to
the light curves, which allow to produce a catalogue of 632 variable objects.
We present a table with the coordinate of each variable, its EROS magnitudes at
one epoch and an indicator of blending in both colours, together with a finding
chart.
A cross-correlation with various catalogues shows that 90% of those variable
objects were undetected before, thus enlarging the sample of LT&LPV previously
known in this area by a factor of 10. Due to the limitations of both the Pixel
Method and the data set, additional data -- namely a longer baseline and near
infrared photometry -- are required to further characterise these variable
stars, as will be addressed in subsequent papers.Comment: 11 pages with 10 figure

Atomic transfers between implanted bioceramics and tissues in orthopaedics surgery
We study transfers of ions and debris from bioceramics implanted in bone
sites. A contamination of surrounding tissues may play a major role in aseptic
loosening of the implant. For these reasons, bioceramics require studies of
biocompatibility and biofunctionality . So, in addition to in vitro studies of
bioceramics, it is essential to implant them in vivo to know body reactions. We
measured the concentration of mineral elements at different time intervals
after implantation over a whole cross-section. We found a discontinuity of the
mineral elements (Ca, P, Sr, Zn, Fe) at the interface between the implant and
the receiver. The osseous attack is not global but, on the contrary,
centripetal. Moreover, the fit of the concentration time course indicates that
the kinetics of ossification is different for each atomic element and
characterizes a distinct biological phenomeno

Nasal carriage of Staphylococcus aureus in dairy sheep.
International audienceThe purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus nasal carriage of dairy sheep in farms producing cheeses manufactured with raw ewe's milk. The study showed that 29% of ewes carried S. aureus in their nares. The genetic diversity of the 136 isolates recovered from the anterior nares of the ewes, from the ambient air of the milking parlour and from cheeses was investigated using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) of DNA SmaI digests. The genotyping results showed that 75 out of 106 isolates recovered from nasal carriage in dairy sheep belonged to a dominant pattern (previously named OV) and a genetically related pattern (named OV'). The same profile (OV or OV') was found in the ambient air and cheeses, suggesting a continuum between isolates within these different compartments
