The study examined the extent of practices of staffing and funding for conflict management in college of education libraries in south-east and south-south, Nigeria. The study was carried out using a descriptive research survey method, and two research questions were drafted to guide the study. A sample size of 528 members of colleges of education library staff in South East and South-South, Nigeria was drawn and used for the study a purposive sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used to collect relevant data for the study. The questionnaire was validated through consultation by 3 research experts. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation was used to ascertain reliability of the questionnaire, and this gave, r = 0.88, which certifies that the questionnaire was appropriate for data collection for the study. Data collected was analysed using Mean, , and Standard deviation, SD, and the result partly showed that staffing and funding practices are carried out for conflict management for enhanced service delivery in college of education libraries. The study concluded that if practices of staffing and funding were maximally channeled to managing conflicts in college libraries, service delivery of the college staff would be enhanced. It was recommended that there should be appropriate allocation and utilization of fund meant for library programs, policies and projects to avoid lapses in implementations of well through conflict management policies for the libraries

The study investigated the extent of involvement of planning and coordination practices for conflict management in college of education libraries in south-east and south-south Nigeria. Descriptive survey design was employed in the study while two research questions were answered. The population and sample of 528 members of colleges of education library staff in South East and South-South, Nigeria was used for the study using a non-randomized purposive sampling method. A structured questionnaire titled Planning and Coordination Practices for Conflict Management in Libraries Questionnaire (PCPCMLQ) was used for the study. The instrument was face and content validated through consultation with three Veteran Researchers in Library and Information Science, Educational Psychology and Measurement and Evaluation from University of Nigeria Nsukka and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation was used to obtain a reliability co-efficient, r = 0.88, which confirmed the instrument is consistent in its measurement. Mean, , and Standard deviation, SD. The results revealed among others that, to a high extent, coordination is carried out as a conflict management practice to enhance service delivery in college of education libraries. It was concluded that effectively harnessing the potentials of planning and coordination practices for conflict management will no doubt lead to enhanced service delivery in college libraries. The study recommended for adequate planning and coordination practices for conflict management that will enhance service delivery in college of education libraries in South-East and South-South, Nigeria

Molluscicidal activities of ethanolic extracts of Calotropis procera and Morinda lucida against Lymnaea natalensis

Snails control is considered the most eff ective method in reducing the transmission of fascioliasis. Chemical molluscicides are reported to be toxic and ineff ective due to snail resistance, hence, the need for safer and eff ective molluscicides. The aim of this study was to assess the molluscicidal activities of two medicinal plants against snail host of Fasciola gigantica. The molluscicidal activity of Morinda lucida and Calotropis procera was investigated against Lymnaea natalensis, the intermediate host of F. gigantica. Ethanolic extract of leaves of the tested plants were evaluated for their lethal activity against the embryos within the egg masses and adult L. natalensis. All the two tested plants exerted toxic lethal eff ect against both the embryos and the adult snails. While M. lucida extract appeared to be more potent at lower concentration on the embryos, the extract of C. procera leaves was signifi cantly more potent than that of M. lucida in adult snails (P<0.05). The LC50 of ethanolic extracts of M. lucida and C. procera was 1.698 mg/ml and 0.500 mg/ml, respectively, at 72 h exposure time of adult L. natalensis. The two tested plants have molluscicidal activities, but these activities could be stage specifi c at certain concentrations

Improving the Mechanical Properties of Natural Fiber Composites for Structural and Biomedical Applications

    Get PDF
Natural fiber composites are designed for different purposes including structural and non-structural ones. These natural fiber composites vary greatly in their properties including mechanical properties. Mechanical properties which include the tensile and flexural properties are highly dependent on factors such as matrix type, filler type, processing, post processing treatment and many more, factors which are quite application specific. However, many research works develop their natural fiber composite before considering the possible applications. This chapter intends to X-ray the factors that affect the mechanical properties as it relates to structural and biomedical applications and suggest ways of improving the mechanical properties

    Fiber-Matrix Relationship for Composites Preparation

Fiber-matrix interaction at the interphase is one very important property that is of great concern to all polymer scientists involved in polymer composites. Many of the failures can be traced to the type of interfacial interaction existing in the composites. That is why highlighting the factors that dictate the type of and the extent of interactions at the interphases become very necessary. Natural fiber polymer composites have found application in many fields of human endeavors. To continue this growth being experienced, the factors that determine the formation of good interaction at the interphase most be understood, so that they can be manipulated for a better result

Postpartum health related quality of life: relationship to antenatal exercise practice in a Nigerian population

    Get PDF
Background: Antenatal exercise (ANE) has been reported to improve postpartum health outcomes in women. However, postpartum health related outcomes of ANE have been inconsistent in previous studies and have not been studied in a Nigerian population. This study assessed the influence of ANE on postpartum health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of Nigerian women. Methods: 350 purposively selected women participated in this cohort study. During the last two pregnancy trimesters, participants completed a questionnaire assessing ANE practice/pattern while the Short Form (SF-36) questionnaire was used to assess HRQOL during postpartum. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with alpha level set at 0.05.Results: Majority (82.9%) of the women practiced ANE. Women who did not exercise showed significantly (p = 0.001) higher general health scores than those who did not. Women who exercised for <30 mins also showed significantly (p = 0.040) higher general health scores, as compared to those who exercised for ≥30 mins.  HRQOL was negatively correlated with each of practice and duration of ANE.Conclusions: It was concluded that ANE practice and patterns did not improve postpartum HRQOL. Improved education and supervision of ANE is recommended for improved postpartum health outcomes

The use of ICT to enhance learning and teaching has become increasingly important. Information and communication technology in education is a modern, efficient and cost effective process which has created a need to transform how students and teachers from higher institutions learn and teach respectively. This study was conducted to assess the pattern and utilization of Information and Communication Technology among undergraduate Nursing students in Tanta University, Egypt. A descriptive cross sectional design was used for the study where 504 fourth year students enrolled in the 2015/2016 session participated in the study. A validated structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The data collected were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20. The results indicated that 80% of the surveyed students utilized ICT in performing their study assignments and research. Majority of the female students (79.0%) self reported themselves as good in computer skills while only one fifth (21.0%) of the male students rated themselves as good in computer skills. Students whose parents had secondary education and above had their total score in self-rating of computer operation skills as significantly higher than those whose parents had below secondary education. The study concluded that majority of the students had good ICT utilization with variation to residence and family income. It is therefore recommended that the university should ensure strict compliance with the rules of e-learning courses for the students and ensure proper application by each student
