Longitudinal Momentum Fraction X_L for Two High P_t Protons in pp->ppX Reaction
We present an analysis of new data from Experiment E850 at BNL. We have
characterized the inclusive cross section near the endpoint for pp exclusive
scattering in Hydrogen and in Carbon with incident beam energy of 6 GeV. We
select events with a pair of back-to-back hadrons at large transverse momentum.
These cross sections are parameterized with a form
, where is the ratio of the longitudinal momentum
of the observed pair to the total incident beam momentum. Small value of
may suggest that the number of partons participating in the reaction is large
and reaction has a strong dependence on the center-of-mass energy. We also

Energy Dependence of Nuclear Transparency in C(p,2p) Scattering
The transparency of carbon for (p,2p) quasi-elastic events was measured at
beam energies ranging from 6 to 14.5 GeV at 90 degrees c.m. The four momentum
transfer squared q*q ranged from 4.8 to 16.9 (GeV/c)**2. We present the
observed energy dependence of the ratio of the carbon to hydrogen cross
sections. We also apply a model for the nuclear momentum distribution of carbon
to normalize this transparency ratio. We find a sharp rise in transparency as
the beam energy is increased to 9 GeV and a reduction to approximately the

Measurement of the Polarized Structure Function for in the Resonance Region
The polarized longitudinal-transverse structure function
has been measured using the reaction in the
resonance region at and 0.65 GeV. No previous
data exist for this reaction channel. The kinematically
complete experiment was performed at Jefferson Lab with the CEBAF Large
Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) using longitudinally polarized electrons at an
energy of 1.515 GeV. A partial wave analysis of the data shows generally better
agreement with recent phenomenological models of pion electroproduction
compared to the previously measured channel. A fit to both
and channels using a unitary isobar model suggests the unitarized
Born terms provide a consistent description of the non-resonant background. The
-channel pion pole term is important in the channel through a

Search for medium modification of the meson
The photoproduction of vector mesons on various nuclei has been studied using
the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Laboratory. The
vector mesons, , , and , are observed via their decay to
, in order to reduce the effects of final state interactions in the
nucleus. Of particular interest are possible in-medium effects on the
properties of the meson. The spectral function is extracted from
the data on various nuclei, carbon, iron, and titanium, and compared to the
spectrum from liquid deuterium, which is relatively free of nuclear effects. We
observe no significant mass shift for the meson; however, there is some
widening of the resonance in titanium and iron, which is consistent with
expected collisional broadening.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
eta-prime photoproduction on the proton for photon energies from 1.527 to 2.227 GeV
Differential cross sections for the reaction gamma p -> eta-prime p have been
measured with the CLAS spectrometer and a tagged photon beam with energies from
1.527 to 2.227 GeV. The results reported here possess much greater accuracy
than previous measurements. Analyses of these data indicate for the first time
the coupling of the etaprime N channel to both the S_11(1535) and P_11(1710)
resonances, known to couple strongly to the eta N channel in photoproduction on
the proton, and the importance of j=3/2 resonances in the process.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
Q^2 Dependence of the S_{11}(1535) Photocoupling and Evidence for a P-wave resonance in eta electroproduction
New cross sections for the reaction are reported for total
center of mass energy =1.5--2.3 GeV and invariant squared momentum transfer
=0.13--3.3 GeV. This large kinematic range allows extraction of new
information about response functions, photocouplings, and coupling
strengths of baryon resonances. A sharp structure is seen at 1.7 GeV.
The shape of the differential cross section is indicative of the presence of a
-wave resonance that persists to high . Improved values are derived for
the photon coupling amplitude for the (1535) resonance. The new data
greatly expands the range covered and an interpretation of all data with
a consistent parameterization is provided.Comment: 31 pages, 9 figure
Measurement of Inclusive Spin Structure Functions of the Deuteron
We report the results of a new measurement of spin structure functions of the
deuteron in the region of moderate momentum transfer ( = 0.27 -- 1.3
(GeV/c)) and final hadronic state mass in the nucleon resonance region (
= 1.08 -- 2.0 GeV). We scattered a 2.5 GeV polarized continuous electron beam
at Jefferson Lab off a dynamically polarized cryogenic solid state target
(ND) and detected the scattered electrons with the CEBAF Large
Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS). From our data, we extract the longitudinal
double spin asymmetry and the spin structure function . Our
data are generally in reasonable agreement with existing data from SLAC where
they overlap, and they represent a substantial improvement in statistical
precision. We compare our results with expectations for resonance asymmetries
and extrapolated deep inelastic scaling results. Finally, we evaluate the first
moment of the structure function and study its approach to both the
deep inelastic limit at large and to the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule
at the real photon limit (). We find that the first moment varies
rapidly in the range of our experiment and crosses zero at between
0.5 and 0.8 (GeV/c), indicating the importance of the resonance at

First measurement of coherent -meson photoproduction on deuteron at low energies
The cross section and decay angular distributions for the coherent \phi meson
photoproduction on the deuteron have been measured for the first time up to a
squared four-momentum transfer t =(p_{\gamma}-p_{\phi})^2 =-2 GeV^2/c^2, using
the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The
cross sections are compared with predictions from a re-scattering model. In a
framework of vector meson dominance, the data are consistent with the total
\phi-N cross section \sigma_{\phi N} at about 10 mb. If vector meson dominance
is violated, a larger \sigma_{\phi N} is possible by introducing larger t-slope
for the \phi N \to \phi N process than that for the \gamma N \to \phi N
process. The decay angular distributions of the \phi are consistent with
helicity conservation.Comment: 6 page
