Marvel analysis of the measured high-resolution rovibrational spectra of H2S
44325 measured and assigned transitions of HS, the parent
isotopologue of the hydrogen sulfide molecule, are collated from 33
publications into a single database and reviewed critically. Based on this
information, rotation-vibration energy levels are determined for the ground
electronic state using the Measured Active Rotational-Vibrational Energy Levels
(MARVEL) technique. The ortho and para principal components of the measured
spectroscopic network of HS are considered separately. The verified
set of 25293 ortho- and 18778 para- HS transitions determine 3969
ortho and 3467 para energy levels. The Marvel results are compared with
alternative data compilations, including a theoretical variational linelist.Comment: 39 pages, 3 figures, JQSRT, 201
Modeling pion and proton total cross-sections at LHC
To settle the question whether the growth with energy is universal for
different hadronic total cross-sections, we present results from theoretical
models for pion-proton, proton-proton and proton-antiproton total
cross-sections. We show that present and planned experiments at LHC can
differentiate between different models, all of which are consistent with
presently available (lower energy) data. This study is also relevant for the
analysis of those very high energy cosmic ray data which require reliable
pion-proton total cross-sections as seeds. A preliminary study of the total
pion-pion cross-sections is also made.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Physics Letters
Performance of the combined zero degree calorimeter for CMS
The combined zero degree calorimeter (ZDC) is a combination of sampling quartz/tungsten electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters. Two identical combined calorimeters are located in the LHC tunnel at CERN at the straight section 140 m on each side of the CMS interaction vertex and between the two beam pipes. They will detect very forward photons and neutrons. ZDC information can be used for a variety of physics measurements as well as improving the collision centrality determination in heavy-ion collisions. Results are presented for ZDC performance studies with the CERN SPS H2 test beam.The combined zero degree calorimeter (ZDC) is a combination of sampling quartz/tungsten electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters. Observation of the Cabibbo-suppressed decay Xi_c+ -> p K- pi+
We report the first observation of the Cabibbo-suppressed charm baryon decay
Xi_c+ -> p K- pi+. We observe 150 +- 22 events for the signal. The data were
accumulated using the SELEX spectrometer during the 1996-1997 fixed target run
at Fermilab, chiefly from a 600 GeV/c Sigma- beam. The branching fractions of
the decay relative to the Cabibbo-favored Xi_c+ -> Sigma+ K- pi+ and Xi_c+ ->
X- pi+ pi+ are measured to be B(Xi_c+ -> p K- pi+)/B(Xi_c+ -> Sigma+ K- pi+) =
0.22 +- 0.06 +- 0.03 and B(Xi_c+ -> p K- pi+)/B(Xi_c+ -> X- pi+ pi+) = 0.20 +-
0.04 +- 0.02, respectively.Comment: 5 pages, RevTeX, 3 figures (postscript), Submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
Azimuthal anisotropy and correlations in the hard scattering regime at RHIC
Azimuthal anisotropy () and two-particle angular correlations of high
charged hadrons have been measured in Au+Au collisions at
=130 GeV for transverse momenta up to 6 GeV/c, where hard
processes are expected to contribute significantly. The two-particle angular
correlations exhibit elliptic flow and a structure suggestive of fragmentation
of high partons. The monotonic rise of for GeV/c is
consistent with collective hydrodynamical flow calculations. At \pT>3 GeV/c a
saturation of is observed which persists up to GeV/c.Comment: As publishe
Azimuthal anisotropy of K0S and Lambda + Lambda -bar production at midrapidity from Au+Au collisions at sqrt[sNN]=130 GeV
We report STAR results on the azimuthal anisotropy parameter v2 for strange particles K0S, Lambda , and Lambda -bar at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[sNN]=130 GeV at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The value of v2 as a function of transverse momentum, pt, of the produced particle and collision centrality is presented for both particles up to pt~3.0 GeV/c. A strong pt dependence in v2 is observed up to 2.0 GeV/c. The v2 measurement is compared with hydrodynamic model calculations. The physics implications of the pt integrated v2 magnitude as a function of particle mass are also discussed.Alle Autoren: C. Adler, Z. Ahammed, C. Allgower, J. Amonett, B. D. Anderson, M. Disappearance of back-to-back high hadron correlations in central Au+Au collisions at = 200 GeV
Azimuthal correlations for large transverse momentum charged hadrons have
been measured over a wide pseudo-rapidity range and full azimuth in Au+Au and
p+p collisions at = 200 GeV. The small-angle correlations
observed in p+p collisions and at all centralities of Au+Au collisions are
characteristic of hard-scattering processes already observed in elementary
collisions. A strong back-to-back correlation exists for p+p and peripheral Au
+ Au. In contrast, the back-to-back correlations are reduced considerably in
the most central Au+Au collisions, indicating substantial interaction as the
hard-scattered partons or their fragmentation products traverse the medium.Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
Pion interferometry in Au+Au collisions at = 200 GeV
We present a systematic analysis of two-pion interferometry in Au+Au
collisions at = 200 GeV using the STAR detector at RHIC. We
extract the HBT radii and study their multiplicity, transverse momentum, and
azimuthal angle dependence. The Gaussianess of the correlation function is
studied. Estimates of the geometrical and dynamical structure of the freeze-out
source are extracted by fits with blast wave parameterizations. The expansion
of the source and its relation with the initial energy density distribution is
studied.Comment: 21 pages, 30 figures. As published in Physics Review

Multiplicity distribution and spectra of negatively charged hadrons in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_nn) = 130 GeV
The minimum bias multiplicity distribution and the transverse momentum and
pseudorapidity distributions for central collisions have been measured for
negative hadrons (h-) in Au+Au interactions at sqrt(s_nn) = 130 GeV. The
multiplicity density at midrapidity for the 5% most central interactions is
dNh-/deta|_{eta = 0} = 280 +- 1(stat)+- 20(syst), an increase per participant
of 38% relative to ppbar collisions at the same energy. The mean transverse
momentum is 0.508 +- 0.012 GeV/c and is larger than in central Pb+Pb collisions
at lower energies. The scaling of the h- yield per participant is a strong
function of pt. The pseudorapidity distribution is almost constant within
|eta|<1.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
