Effect Of Thallium Additive On Heat Capacities Of In-Se Bulk Chalcogenide Glasses
Chalcogenide glasses are promising materials for optoelectronic device applications. Heat capacity of such materials is the essential physical parameter to estimate the energy/data storage capacity. In the present work, the effect of Tl incorporation on heat capacities ΔCpg, ΔCpc and ΔCpm of In10Se90-xTl x (7≤x≤15) and In15Se85-xTlx
(2≤x≤10) bulk glasses have been investigated by
analyzing the Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) thermogram plots. Composition dependence of heat capacities of In-Se-Tl glassy systems have been obtained at the peaks of the glass transitions, crystallizations and melting temperatures (Tg, Tc and Tm). It is found that the heat capacities of In10Se90-xTl x and In15Se85-xTlx glasses increases initially with the incorporation of thallium
(up to x≤13 and x≤6) and reaches to maximum at x=13 and x=6 respectively beyond which it decreases. This behavior seems to follow the change in network connectivity and rigidity and may be explained with the help of chemical bond theory of solids. Further in these glassy materials, at the average coordination =2.46 (x=13) and = 2.42 (x=6) a sharp slope change is seen in the composition dependence of heat capacity of both the series which is attributed to the rigidity percolation threshold
IR Studies of Impurities in In-Se-Tl Bulk Chalcogenide Glassy System
Chalcogenide glasses with composition In10Se90-xTlx (7≤x≤15) and In15Se85-xTlx (2≤x≤10) are synthesized by melt quenching technique. The FT-IR transmission spectroscopy studies using KBr pellet method in the wavelength range
400-4000 cm-1 has been carried out. The In-Se-Tl
glasses studies shows good transparency in the entire spectral range. There is an increase in percentage of transmittance values with increase in the Tl content. In the transmittance curve various absorption bands are seen, which are related to chemical bonds of different extrinsic
impurities present in the glassy material. The vibrational properties of the impurities in the powdered samples are measured. Vibrational modes attributed to O-H hydroxyl groups, molecular H2O and carbon impurity atoms were
detected in the mid-IR spectra
Beneficiation of Indian Heavy Mineral Sands- Some New Possibilities Identified by Tata Steel
Titanium, the 9th most abundant element on the earth's crust, is available mostly (90%)in the form of ilmenite (FeO.TiO2) and leucoxene (weathered ilmenite). These titanium bearing minerals occur either as placer minerals or some times, as rock deposits (e.g. in canada and Norway
Biomarkers of environmental contaminants in field population of green mussel (Perna viridis) from Karnataka-Kerala coast (South West coast of India)
The green mussel Perna viridis was sampled
from relatively clean and contaminated sites along the
Kartanata-Kerala coast (south west coast of India) to study
the tissue concentration of trace metals and biological
responses to stress (biomarkers) such as sister chromatid
exchange (SCE), chromosomal aberration, micronucleus
(MN) test, hemic neoplasia (HN), Chromotest (Ames test)
and comet assay
Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus (MERS-CoV): Levels of Knowledge and Awareness in Bahrain
The Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS−CoV) was first identified in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) in 2012 that accounts 80% of the global cases. On 10th of April 2016, Bahrain notified WHO of a first fatal case. Hence, as a public health research and practice, the authors sought to assess the knowledge and awareness of MERS-CoV in Bahrain. A cross-sectional, conveniently sampled study was carried out through face-to-face interviews using a structured Arabic questionnaire among 498 Bahraini adults. While, 95% had a travel history to KSA, around 50% had the knowledge and awareness of MERS CoV being a viral lethal disease and its associated symptoms. Stratifying by socio-demographics, the authors found that the levels ofeducation, occupation, history of travel to KSA were significantly associated with the knowledge and awareness of MERS CoV (p < 0.05). On the preventive measures of MERS CoV, occupation and history of travel to KSA were significantly associated (p < 0.05). Considering the first notified case from Bahrain, proximity and travel history to KSA of 95% of the Bahrainis, the knowledge and awareness of MERS CoV is found to be inadequate. Therefore, the knowledge and awareness campaign on MERS CoV is pivotal as a good public health practice.

Record size landing of blackbanded trevally Seriolina nigrofasciata at Veraval
On the 4th of January 2008, two giant sized female blackbanded trevally Seriolina nigrofasciata Ruppell caught by hooks and line were landed at Bhidiya, Veraval (Fig. 1). This is the first report on the landing of black banded trevally at Veraval. The hooks hook no. 6) were suspended at a depth of 80 - 90 m from the trawler having overall length of 14 m and powered with 105 HP engine
Mussel farming initiatives in north Kerala, India: a case of successful adoption of technology, leading to rural livelihood transformation
The Malabar region, extending from Malappuram to
Kasargode districts of Northern Kerala, is a well-known
mussel fi shery zone of India. Over 7,000 t (80%) of the total
green mussel (Perna viridis) catch is exploited annually
from this zone. The Central Marine Fisheries Research
Institute (CMFRI) developed techniques for mussel culture
in 1971 and subsequently fi eld demonstrations in different
areas with direct involvement of local rural folk were carried
out1. Demonstrations to popularise this technology have
led to adoption of this simple farming method particularly
in the Malabar region2. The Malabar coast has extensive
backwaters and estuaries, which are suitable for mussel
farming during the post monsoon months (November to
May) when higher saline conditions prevail. Farming activity
during this period provides an opportunity for supplementary
livelihood and additional income to the coastal rural
population
Flourishing trade of air bladders at Okha, Gujarat
The swim bladders of eels (Muraenesox talabonoides Bleeker), ghol (Protonibea diacanthus Lacepede) and koth (Otolithoides
biauritus Cantor) are of best quality and fetch very high market price owing to the huge export demand. Fish air bladder is mainly used for making isinglass. Considerable quantity of eel, ghol and koth are landed at Okha by trawlers operating on the rocky bottom (18 m depth) off Jakhau. Around 500 trawlers having an overall length of 40 to 45 ft, powered with 80 - 105 HP engines are actively engaged in the fishing of eel, ghol and koth. The fishing trip lasts for 7 - 10 days with 4 - 6 hauls of 3 h duration per day depending on whether they fish during only day
or both day and night. The trawlers carry on an average 10 to 12 nets having length of 35 - 40 m with cod end mesh size varying between 8 and 15 mm
Bumper catch of spiny lobsters by trawlers and gill netters at Okha, Gujarat
During the post-monsoon months of September

lobsters Panulirus polyphagus worth of
Rs. 67 crores was landed by trawlers and gill netters
at Okha and Rupenbander
