    Characterization of the Use and Occupation of Soil on Rural Properties Using Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems - RPAS

    The use of remotely piloted aircraft systems allows for practicality in the collection and monitoring of study areas or in the development of rehabilitation projects for degraded areas. As such, this technology is gaining space as an alternative for applications in studies and surveys of several areas. This work is justified by the demand for projects and the search for practical alternatives that will enable the framing of rural properties according to the new Brazilian Forestry Code (Codígo Florestal Brasileiro) and its environmental recovery plans (Plano de Recuperação Ambiental). The objective of this study is therefore to evaluate the use of a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System in the monitoring of a rural property, seeking to include it in the framework of the Brazilian Forestry Code. To accomplish this work, information samples were taken in an area of 30.19 ha of a rural property with the use of a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System - RPAS. After the data collection, the images were treated using the QGis software and through the generation of an ortho-mosaic, which enabled the data to be analyzed and interpreted. With the interpretation of land use and occupation data and with the generation of maps of land use and occupation, a diagnosis of the current situation of the area can be obtained. In a second phase, maps were created to include the property in the current legislative framework, seeking its regularization. After the completion of this work, the conclusion can be drawn that the use of a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System - RPAS is viable and enables the monitoring of rural areas with efficiency and speed

    Understanding the relationship between physical activity and physical self-perception in adolescent females: the role of body image

    The aim of this study was to explore the role of body image concern in the relationship between physical activity and physical self-concept. A total of 441 Spanish adolescent college females aged 12 to 17 completed the Physical Self-Concept Questionnaire (CAF), the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) and Gardner´s Scale for the Assessment of Body Image. Data on body mass index (BMI) and participation in physical activity were also collected. The results showed a positive relationship between physical activity and physical self-concept with all its subdimensions, as well as general self-concept. This relationship was notably higher in the absence of body image concern. However, no relationship was found between exercise and the subdimension of body attractiveness in the case of adolescents who were dissatisfied with their bodies. This emphasizes the importance of a healthy body image in shaping an adolescent female’s self-concept

    Study of ATLAS sensitivity to FCNC top decays

    The ATLAS experiment sensitivity to top quark Flavour Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) decays was studied at LHC using ttbar events. While one of the top quarks is expected to follow the dominant Standard Model decay t->bW, the other decays through a FCNC channel, i.e. t-> Z u(c), t-> gamma u(c) or t-> g u(c). Different types of analyses, applied to each FCNC decay mode, were compared. The FCNC branching ratio sensitivity (assuming a 5sigma signal significance) and 95% confidence level limits on the branching ratios (in the hypothesis of signal absence) were obtained

    Studying the Wtb vertex structure using recent LHC results

    The Wtb vertex structure and the search for new anomalous couplings is studied using top quark measurements obtained at the LHC, for a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. By combining the latest and most precise results on the single top quark production cross section and the measurements of the W-boson helicity fractions (F0 and FL), it is possible to set new limits, at a 95% C.L., on the real and imaginary components of the new couplings. The combination of the LHC observables clearly improves the limits obtained when using the individual results alone. The updated measurements of the W-boson helicity fractions and the s+t channels’ electroweak single top quark production, at the Tevatron, improve the LHC limits when a world combination of all observables (LHC+Tevatron) is performed.This work was partially supported by Fundacao para a Ciencia e Tecnologia, FCT (Project No. CERN/FP/123619/2011, Grant No. SFRH/BI/52524/2014 and Contract No. IF/00050/2013).     Top effective operators at the ILC

    We investigate the effect of top trilinear operators in t tbar production at the ILC. We find that the sensitivity to these operators largely surpasses the one achievable by the LHC either in neutral or charged current processes, allowing to probe new physics scales up to 4.5 TeV for a centre of mass energy of 500 GeV. We show how the use of beam polarisation and an eventual energy upgrade to 1 TeV allow to disentangle all effective operator contributions to the Ztt and gamma tt vertices.Comment: LaTeX 13 pages.
