Packaging of a high-speed optical modulator using flip chip interconnects
Optical modulators using lithium niobate (LiNbO3) have become the industry standard for high-speed data transmission and RF photonic links. Packaging is a determining factor in maintaining low cost and high-performance. This paper investigates the application of flip chip technology to optical modulator packaging. Experimental results show that rugged flip chip bonds can be realized with minimal impact on the modulator electrical performance
Classes of generalized functions with finite type regularities
We introduce and analyze spaces and algebras of generalized functions which correspond to Hölder, Zygmund, and Sobolev spaces of functions. The main scope of the paper is the characterization of the regularity of distributions that are embedded into the corresponding space or algebra of generalized functions with finite type regularities
Isomorphisms of algebras of Colombeau generalized functions
We show that for smooth manifolds X and Y, any isomorphism between the
special algebra of Colombeau generalized functions on X, resp. Y is given by
composition with a unique Colombeau generalized function from Y to X. We also
identify the multiplicative linear functionals from the special algebra of
Colombeau generalized functions on X to the ring of Colombeau generalized
numbers. Up to multiplication with an idempotent generalized number, they are
given by an evaluation map at a compactly supported generalized point on X.Comment: 10 page
Employees’ responses to an organizational merger: Intraindividual change in organizational identification, attachment, and turnover
The authors used pre-post merger data from 599 employees experiencing a major corporate merger to compare 3 conceptual models based on the logic of social identity theory (SIT) and exchange theory to explain employees’ merger responses. At issue is how perceived change in employees’ own jobs and roles (i.e., personal valence) and perceived change in their organization’s status and merger appropriateness (i.e., organizational valence) affect their changing organizational identification, attachment attitudes, and voluntary turnover. The first model suggests that organizational identification and organizational attachment develop independently and have distinct antecedents. The second model posits that organizational identification mediates the relationships between change in organizational and personal valence and change in attachment and turnover. The third model posits that change in personal valence moderates the relationship between changes in organizational valence and in organizational identification and attachment. Using latent difference score (LDS) modeling in an SEM framework and survival analysis, the results suggest an emergent fourth model that integrates the first and second models: Although change in organizational identification during the merger mediates the relationship between change in personal status and organizational valence and change in attachment, there is a direct and unmediated relationship between change in personal valence and attachment. This integrated model has implications for M&A theory and practice
Towards an Achievable Performance for the Loop Nests
Numerous code optimization techniques, including loop nest optimizations,
have been developed over the last four decades. Loop optimization techniques
transform loop nests to improve the performance of the code on a target
architecture, including exposing parallelism. Finding and evaluating an
optimal, semantic-preserving sequence of transformations is a complex problem.
The sequence is guided using heuristics and/or analytical models and there is
no way of knowing how close it gets to optimal performance or if there is any
headroom for improvement. This paper makes two contributions. First, it uses a
comparative analysis of loop optimizations/transformations across multiple
compilers to determine how much headroom may exist for each compiler. And
second, it presents an approach to characterize the loop nests based on their
hardware performance counter values and a Machine Learning approach that
predicts which compiler will generate the fastest code for a loop nest. The
prediction is made for both auto-vectorized, serial compilation and for
auto-parallelization. The results show that the headroom for state-of-the-art
compilers ranges from 1.10x to 1.42x for the serial code and from 1.30x to
1.71x for the auto-parallelized code. These results are based on the Machine
Learning predictions.Comment: Accepted at the 31st International Workshop on Languages and

Search for a Solution of the Pioneer Anomaly
In 1972 and 1973 the Pioneer 10 and 11 missions were launched. They were the
first to explore the outer solar system and achieved stunning breakthroughs in
deep-space exploration. But beginning in about 1980 an unmodeled force of \sim
8 \times 10^{-8} cm/s^2, directed approximately towards the Sun, appeared in
the tracking data. It later was unambiguously verified as being in the data and
not an artifact. The cause remains unknown (although radiant heat remains a
likely origin). With time more and more effort has gone into understanding this
anomaly (and also possibly related effects). We review the situation and
describe ongoing programs to resolve the issue.Comment: 24 pages 8 figure
Generalized Fourier Integral Operators on spaces of Colombeau type
Generalized Fourier integral operators (FIOs) acting on Colombeau algebras
are defined. This is based on a theory of generalized oscillatory integrals
(OIs) whose phase functions as well as amplitudes may be generalized functions
of Colombeau type. The mapping properties of these FIOs are studied as the
composition with a generalized pseudodifferential operator. Finally, the
microlocal Colombeau regularity for OIs and the influence of the FIO action on
generalized wave front sets are investigated. This theory of generalized FIOs
is motivated by the need of a general framework for partial differential
operators with non-smooth coefficients and distributional data
The wave equation on singular space-times
We prove local unique solvability of the wave equation for a large class of
weakly singular, locally bounded space-time metrics in a suitable space of

Novel biomarker SARIFA in colorectal cancer: highly prognostic, not genetically driven and histologic indicator of a distinct tumor biology
SARIFA (Stroma AReactive Invasion Front Areas) has recently emerged as a promising histopathological biomarker for colon and gastric cancer. To elucidate the underlying tumor biology, we assessed SARIFA-status in tissue specimens from The-Cancer-Genome-Atlas (TCGA) cohorts COAD (colonic adenocarcinoma) and READ (rectal adenocarcinoma). For the final analysis, 207 CRC patients could be included, consisting of 69 SARIFA-positive and 138 SARIFA-negative cases. In this external validation cohort, H&E-based SARIFA-positivity was strongly correlated with unfavorable overall, disease-specific, and progression-free survival, partly outperforming conventional prognostic factors. SARIFA-positivity was not associated with known high-risk genetic profiles, such as BRAF V600E mutations or microsatellite-stable status. Transcriptionally, SARIFA-positive CRCs exhibited an overlap with CRC consensus molecular subtypes CMS1 and CMS4, along with distinct differential gene expression patterns, linked to lipid metabolism and increased stromal cell infiltration scores (SIIS). Gene-expression-based drug sensitivity prediction revealed a differential treatment response in SARIFA-positive CRCs. In conclusion, SARIFA represents the H&E-based counterpart of an aggressive tumor biology, demonstrating a partial overlap with CMS1/4 and also adding a further biological layer related to lipid metabolism. Our findings underscore SARIFA-status as an ideal biomarker for refined patient stratification and novel drug developments, particularly given its cost-effective assessment based on routinely available H&E slides
