Fast Prototyping of Reconfigurable Architectures: An Estimation and Exploration Methodology from System-Level Specifications
Rapid evaluation and design space exploration at the algorithmic level are important issues in the design cycle. In this paper we propose an original area vs delay estimation methodology that targets reconfigurable architectures. Two main steps compose the estimation flow: i) the structural estimation which is technological independent and performs an automatic design space exploration and ii) the physical estimation which performs a technologic mapping to the target reconfigurable architecture. Experiments conducted on Xilinx (XC4000, Virtex) and Altera (Flex10K, Apex) components for a 2D DWT and a speech coder lead to an average error of about 10 % for temporal values and 18 % for area estimations
Trusted Computing using Enhanced Manycore Architectures with Cryptoprocessors
International audienceManycore architectures correspond to a main evolution of computing systems due to their high processing power. Many applications can be executed in parallel which provides users with a very efficient technology. Cloud computing is one of the many domains where manycore architectures will play a major role. Thus, building secure manycore architectures is a critical issue. However a trusted platform based on manycore architectures is not available yet. In this paper we discuss the main challenges and some possible solutions to enhance manycore architectures with cryptoprocessor

Dynamic studies of biomimetic coated polycaprolactone nanofiber meshes as bone extracellular matrix analogues
This work aimed at studying the effects of dynamic culture conditions and biomimetic coating on bone cells grown on nanofiber meshes. In our previous work, biomimetic calcium phosphate coated polycaprolactone nanofibre meshes (BCP-NM) proved to be more efficient for supporting cell attachment and proliferation under static conditions, when compared to polycaprolactone nanofibre meshe (PCL-NM). However, no studies on the influence of bioreactors on the behaviour of cells cultivated on these materials were developed so far. [...]info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Evaluation of an Active Humidification System for Inspired Gas
ObjectivesThe effectiveness of the active humidification systems (AHS) in patients already weaned from mechanical ventilation and with an artificial airway has not been very well described. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of an AHS in chronically tracheostomized and spontaneously breathing patients.MethodsMeasurements were quantified at three levels of temperature (T°) of the AHS: level I, low; level II, middle; and level III, high and at different flow levels (20 to 60 L/minute). Statistical analysis of repeated measurements was performed using analysis of variance and significance was set at a P<0.05.ResultsWhile the lowest temperature setting (level I) did not condition gas to the minimum recommended values for any of the flows that were used, the medium temperature setting (level II) only conditioned gas with flows of 20 and 30 L/minute. Finally, at the highest temperature setting (level III), every flow reached the minimum absolute humidity (AH) recommended of 30 mg/L.ConclusionAccording to our results, to obtain appropiate relative humidity, AH and T° of gas one should have a device that maintains water T° at least at 53â for flows between 20 and 30 L/m, or at T° of 61â at any flow rate
Opportunistic IP Birthmarking using Side Effects of Code Transformations on High-Level Synthesis
The increasing design and manufacturing costs are leading to globalize the semiconductor supply chain. However, a malicious attacker can resell a stolen Intellectual Property (IP) core, demanding methods to identify a relationship between a given IP and a potentially fraudulent copy. We propose a method to protect IP cores created with high-level synthesis (HLS): our method inserts a discrete birthmark in the HLS-generated designs that uses only intrinsic characteristics of the final RTL. The core of our process leverages the side effects of HLS due to specific source-code manipulations, although the method is HLS-tool agnostic. We propose two independent validation metrics, showing that our solution introduces minimal resource and delay overheads (< 6% and < 2%, respectively) and the accuracy in detecting illegal copies is above 96%
