In last few years, high service value has become a distinguishable characteristic for firms which provide similar services with similar prices. Context: Endotracheal tube cuff pressure (ETCP) is recommended to be maintained between 20.30 cmH2O limits. While insufficient inflation of ETC may cause aspirations, over.inflation of it may lead to damage in tracheal epithelium.Aims: We planned to investigate the effects of user experience and cuff pressure inflation method differences following endotracheal tube cuff pressure and complaints about it.Patients and Methods: Two hundred and fifty patients planned for general anaesthesia were included in this study. ETC was inflated by users with different experience according to leakage or pilot balloon palpation techniques. ETCPs were measured by manometer at three periods (5 and 60 minutes after endotracheal intubation, and before extubation). Complaints about it were recorded in post anaesthetic care unit and 24 hours postoperatively. Results: Though we found experience of user had significant effect on the ETCP regulations, we observed inflation methods did not have any effect. However we found ETCP was higher than normal range with experienced users. A correlation was observed between cuff pressure and anaesthesia duration with postoperative complaints. Conclusions: Our study concluded that the methods used do not have any significant advantage over one another. While ETC inflated at normal pressure increases as userfs experience increases, experience alone is not enough in adjusting ETCP. A manometer should be used in routine inflation of ETC instead of conventional methods. CP and anaesthesia duration have correlations with some postoperative complaints.Key words: Endotracheal tube cuff pressure, experience of user, inflation method

Use of Phosphoric Acid and Furfuryl Alcohol for Soil Stabilization

    Get PDF
This paper presents results of an investigation of the effects of phosphoric acid and furfuryl alcohol on the resistance and strengths of a clayey soil and of a sandy soil. Results indicate that greater water resistance and higher strengths can be obtained with both soils by using the admixtures. For the sandy soil, a certain optimum amount of phosphoric acid gives the maximum strengths for all furfuryl alcohol contents. The stabilization mechanism for the clayey soil is thought to be a combination of the formation of phosphoric gels and of a resin product of a furfuryl alcohol polymerization reaction. The mechanism for the sandy soil is the formation of the polymerization resin product

Digital supply chain surveillance using artificial intelligence: definitions, opportunities and risks

    Get PDF
Digital Supply Chain Surveillance (DSCS) is the proactive monitoring and analysis of digital data that allows firms to extract information related to a supply network, without the explicit consent of firms involved in the supply chain. AI has made DSCS to become easier and larger-scale, posing significant opportunities for automated detection of actors and dependencies involved in a supply chain, which in turn, can help firms to detect risky, unethical and environmentally unsustainable practices. Here, we define DSCS, review priority areas using a survey conducted in the UK. Visibility, sustainability, resilience are significant areas that DSCS can support, through a number of machine-learning approaches and predictive algorithms. Despite anecdotal narrative on the importance of explainability of algorithmic results, practitioners often prefer accuracy over explainability; however, there are significant differences between industrial sectors and application areas. Using a case study, we highlight a number of concerns on the unchecked use of AI in DSCS, such as bias or misinterpretation resulting in erroneous conclusions, which may lead to suboptimal decisions or relationship damage. Building on this, we develop and discuss a number of illustrative cases to highlight risks that practitioners should be aware of, proposing key areas of further research

Cataloged from PDF version of article. We report a facile fabrication method for the fabrication of functional large area nanostructured polymer films using a drop casting technique. Reusable and tapered silicon molds were utilized in the production of functional polymers providing rapid fabrication of the paraboloid nanostructures at the desired structural heights without the requirement of any complex production conditions, such as high temperature or pressure. The fabricated polymer films demonstrate promising qualities in terms of antireflective, hydrophobic and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) features. We achieved up to 92% transmission from the single-side nanostructured polymer films by implementing optimized nanostructure parameters which were determined using a finite difference time domain (FDTD) method prior to production. Large-area nanostructured films were observed to enhance the Raman signal with an enhancement factor of 4.9 x 10(6) compared to bare film, making them potentially suitable as freestanding SERS substrates. The utilized fabrication method with its demonstrated performances and reliable material properties, paves the way for further possibilities in biological, optical, and electronic applications

The Investigation of Effects of Quercetin and Its Combination with Cisplatin on Malignant Mesothelioma Cells In Vitro

Malignant Mesothelioma (MM) is an aggressive and lethal tumour of the serosal surfaces with poor prognosis. In this study, we have investigated the antiproliferative effect of Quercetin (QU) and its combination with Cisplatin (CIS) on SPC212 and SPC111 cell lines. Our experiments showed that QU significantly reduced the proliferation of cell lines, altered the cell cycle distribution, and increased the level of Caspase 9 (C9) and Caspase 3 (C3) in concentration and time-dependent manner. Additionally, the combination of QU + CIS was found more effective when compared with individual treatment of agents

Expansion of Montimorillonite Due to Adsorption of Water Vapor

    Get PDF
Expansions of pure sodium and calcium montmorillonites due to absorption of water vapor were studied and the results were correlated with X-ray diffraction and free swelling studies. Specimens of various porosities were used. Results indicate that the uptake of water is a multimolecular physical adsorption phenomenon which justifies application of BET theory. Porosity of specimens did not appreciably affect their expansions due to adsorption of water vapor. Sodium montmorillonite expanded appreciably more than calcium montmorillonite. At near saturation vapor pressure, calcium montmorillonite has attained practically its maximum swelling, while sodium montmorillonite will expand further if exposed to liquid water. Free energies of wetting, calculated from adsorption isotherm data, do not directly reflect the extent of swelling but do reflect the uplift pressures developed. Sodium montmorillonite presents the more serious problem with respect to settlement, and calcium montmorillonite presents the more serious problem with respect to uplift pressures
