So far, cognitive derangements in MND/ALS have not been widely studied. Nevertheless, it seems that in subgroups of patients cognitive functions are impaired in different degree, so that often at least two sub-types of the syndrome are reported: Motor Neuron Disease/Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/Dementia Syndrome (MND/ALS/DS) and Motor Neuron Disease/Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/ Aphasia Syndrome (MND/ALS/AS. A third subtype showing both symptoms of cognitive impairment may be identified in subgroups of patients and denominated Motor Neuron Disease/Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/Dementia-Aphasia Syndrome (MND/ALS/DAS). Frontostriatal system is reported as a network heavily damaged in MND/ALS/DS, MND/ALS/AS, MND/ALS/DAS. The system is plausibly responsible of motor skills and verbs production, hence to become aware of a possible frontostriatal deficit in subgroup of MND/ALS patients might consent us to link at the brain level (motor) action and verbs and possibly ideomotor praxia and verbs. We have used Goal-Oriented Perception Task (GOPT) and Action Fluency Task (AFT) in order to detect with some accuracy impairments related to gestaltic analysis directed toward a goal, and verb retrieval deficits possibly underlying executive system dysfunction that destabilizes the ability to mentally coordinate the information associated with a verb. These tests should consent to detect possible frontostriatal derangements. We have tested 10 MND/ALS patients and 10 healthy subjects matched fore age, sex and laterality. AFT showed that 3 out of 6 patients are heavily impaired in this test (6.3 (mean) verbs generated vs 13.3 of the control group). GOPT detected a remarkable impairment in all patients: p=0.0021 (grammatical side), p=0.0002 (perceptual side). Reported frontostriatal deficit in MND/ALS seems confirmed by this study, and probably it is more easily detected by GOPT than by AFT

Classification of Acute Leukemia using Fuzzy Neural Networks

    Get PDF
Accurate classification of cancers based on microarray gene expressions is very important for doctors to choose a proper treatment. In this paper, we compared ten filter based gene selection methods in order to differentiate acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in leukemia dataset. Dimensionality reduction methods, such as Spearman Correlation Coefficient and Wilcoxon Rank Sum Statistics are used for gene selection. The experimental results showed that the proposed gene selection methods are efficient, effective, and robust in identifying differentially expressed genes. Adopting the existing SVM-based and KNN-based classifiers, the selected genes by filter based methods in general give more accurate classification results, typically when the sample class sizes in the training dataset are unbalanced

SCI mago is the Journal and Country Ranking database available freely on the internet. We have accessed the required data from 2008 to 2017 from this database and evaluated the research productivity of SAARC countries and citations in the field of social science subject. This article studied SAARC countries publications, citations, citations per document, self-citations and degree of self – citations. The study revealed that on an average 6054 articles are published during the study period. India is the only country to publish more than the average citations publications during the ten years of study. India received 78% of citations and stood 1st rank in the study, whereas Pakistan and Bangladesh got 8% and 6% citations and stood 2nd and 3rd rank. Nepal got highest 76% of citations per document and stood 1st rank among the SAARC countries in the last ten years from 2008 to 2017. Further, it is found that the degree of self-citation is 0.24, which is very lowest. Since all the SAARC countries are underdeveloped so it is suggested that the government of SAARC countries has to encourage more and more publications, then only their socio-economic level may increase. Individuals, as well as organisations, should take more interest to publish their research articles in high impact journals both at national and international level

Amavata is the most challenging disease for the medical science, as it causes severe intolerable pain and severe deformities making the patient disable and bed ridden. As it is the disease of Rasavaha Srotas and having several features similar to Rheumatoid Arthrtis, Amavata can be co-related with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Ama and vitiated Vata play dominant role, though all Dosha take part in the causation of the disease, Amavata is the outcome of Agnidushti, Amotpatti and Sandhivikruti, with the passage of the time most of the dietary habits, changing lifestyle and environment have been contributing to the disease, the risk factor include age, gender, genetics and environmental exposure. Worldwide, the annual incidence of RA is approximately 1%, increasing with age and peaking between the age of 35 and 50 years. So, patients are continuously looking for the treatment from Ayurveda to overcome this challenge. Ramban Rasa is unique formulation which is favorable in the management of the Amavata, as mentioned by Yogratnakar, Bhaishajya Ratnawali, Bhav Prakash and other classical text

This research article critically examines Mahasweta Devi as an Environmental crusader with special reference to Bitter Soil. It is a set of four short stories that is, “Little Ones”, “Seeds”, “Witch”, and “Salt”. These stories focus on the injustice done to the environment and to its environs. The first story “Little Ones” revolves around how the mainstream people exploit the environment and the Aghariya tribes in Lohri. The second story “Seed” set around Kuruda village. It deals with two themes; one is the exploitation of field labourers by not giving them a proper wage and the second is the exploitation by offering uncultivable land to the tribes in the name of ‘Budhanodyamam’. The third story “Witch” delineates the concept of daini in the villages of Hesadi and Murhai and the ecological imbalance in those villages. The fourth story in the collection is “Salt”. As the title suggests, the story revolves around the importance of salt

    Get PDF
In a country like India where more number of scripts are in use, automatic identification of printed and handwritten script facilitates many important applications including sorting of document images and searching online archives of document images. In this paper, a multiple feature based approach is presented to identify the script type of the collection of handwritten documents. Eight popular Indian scripts are considered here. Features are extracted using Gabor filters, Discrete Cosine Transform, and Wavelets of Daubechies family. Experiments are performed to test the recognition accuracy of the proposed system at line level for bilingual scripts and later extended to trilingual scripts. We have obtained 100% recognition accuracy for bi-scripts at line level. The classification is done using k-nearest neighbour classifier
