    Differences in occupants' satisfaction and perceived productivity in high- and low-performance offices

    © 2019 by the authors. This paper reports the results from a dataset comprising 9794 post-occupancy evaluation (POE) surveys from 77 Australian open-plan offices. This paper specifically focuses on a sub-set of 20 offices (n = 2133), identified from ranking 10 offices each, with the least (n = 1063) and highest (n = 1070) satisfaction scores, respectively. The satisfaction scores were evaluated on the basis of seven factors (i.e., building/office aesthetics and quality, thermal comfort and indoor air quality, noise distraction and privacy, personal control, connection to outdoor environment, maintenance and visual comfort, and individual space). Using the POE survey data from 20 offices, regression analyses and two-way ANOVA tests were carried out to understand the differences in occupants' satisfaction and perceived productivity arising from open-plan offices. According to the statistically significant regression analyses results, it was identified that building/office aesthetics and quality (β = 0.55, p < 0.001) and noise distraction and privacy (β = 0.33, p < 0.001) were the two strongest predictors contributing perceived productivity in low-performance offices. Two-way ANOVA test results for the 10 high-performance offices indicate that the perceived productivity was strongly associated with the office's physical configuration, the employees' working experience, and the working hours at that office

    The inflationary effect of the increases in crude oil prices: structural breaks dynamic panel data analysis for selected OECD countries

    Bu çalışmada; petrol ithalatçısı olan OECD üyesi seçilmiş 15 ülke için, 1960-2011 döneminde ham petrol ithal fiyatlarının enflasyon üzerindeki etkileri incelenmiştir. Analizde, herhangi bir ülkede meydana gelen bir makroekonomik şokun diğer ülkeleri de etkileyeceği varsayımını yani yatay kesit bağımlılığını dikkate alan panel birim kök ve eşbütünleşme testleri uygulanmış, seriler arasında eşbütünleşme ilişkisinin varlığı tespit edilmiştir. Uzun Dönem Eşbütünleşme Katsayıları Tahmin sonuçlarına göre ham petrol ithal fiyat artışları ve ekonomik büyümenin enflasyonu arttırdığı, ekonomik büyümenin enflasyonist etkisinin, ham petrol ithal fiyatlarının etkisinden daha fazla olduğu bulgusuna ulaşılmıştır.In this study the effects of crude oil import prices on inflation were analysed between 1960-2011 for the oil importing selected 15 OECD countries. The economic growth variable which is considered to be the descriptor of inflation was also included in the model. Panel unit root and cointegration tests considering the hypothesis that a macroeconomic shock happening in a country would affect the others, i.e. the cross sectional dependency were implemented in the analysis. As a result of the analysis it was found that there was a cointegration relationship between the series. The results of cointegration analysis showed that crude oil import prices and economic growth increased the inflation, and the inflationary effect of economic growth was higher than that of crude oil import prices

Al-SiC karışımından oluşan bu malzemelerden n=0.1, n=1 ve n=10 değerlerine sahip olanlar deneysel çalışmalarda kullanılmıştır. Bu malzemelerden bir seri, direk olarak basma testine tabi tutulmuş ve bunların mekanik değerlerine ve hasar şekillerine bakılmıştır. Diğer bir seri ise 550 C’den 0 C’ye ani olarak soğutularak (termal şok), önce makro incelemeye tabi tutulmuş daha sonra yine bu numunelerede basma testi uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar FGM’lerin basma testi altında farklı n değerlerinde farklı yapıda şekil değiştirdiğini, termal şokların ise basma dayanımını artırıcı, şekil değiştirme kabiliyetini azaltıcı etki ortaya koyduğunu göstermektedir.In this study, structural and mechanical behavior of the functional graded materials which developed for ballistic was examined under compression test. The materials which have Al-SiC mixing and value of n=0.1, n=1 and n=10, have been used in experimental studies. A series of these pruducts were subjected to compression test directly, and these mechanical values and damage forms was examined. And the other series of macro wiev was investigate and then was applied to compression test after thermal shocking from 550 C to 0 C. The obtained results show that the functional graded materials presents different mechanical behaviour under different n value. Thermal shocks introduced the increasing affect to compression strenght and decreasing affect to shape changing ability

    İlköğretim Öğrencilerinin Fen Derslerindeki Güdüsel Özelliklerinin İncelenmesi

    This study examined elementary students’ motivational traits in science with respect to students’ gender and grade levels. A total of 3685 students from 6th, 7th and 8th grade levels participated in the study. Findings showed that gender and grade level differences exist among elementary students. Concerning the gender difference, girls appeared to be more curious, conscientious, and social with a higher level of need for achievement. Moreover, it was revealed that as grade level increased, students’ motivational patterns became less positive.Bu çalışmada ilköğretim öğrencilerinin fen derslerindeki güdüsel özellikleri araştırılmıştır. Çalışmada ayrıca cinsiyetin ve sınıf düzeyinin öğrencilerin dört güdüsel (başarılı, meraklı, vicdanlı ve sosyal) özelliğine olan etkisi araştırılmıştır. Araştırmaya 3685 altıncı, yedinci ve sekizinci sınıf öğrencisi katılmıştır. Sonuçlar kız öğrencilerin erkek öğrencilere göre daha başarı odaklı, meraklı, vicdanlı ve sosyal olduğunu göstermiştir. Ayrıca sınıf düzeyi arttıkça öğrencilerdeki güdüsel özelliklerin azaldığı görülmüştür

    Exploring Identity Issues in Development Areas of Vernacular Rural Settlements: A Case Study of Behramkale, Türkiye

    Sustainable rural development is a challenging issue, considering the pressure of change brought by the demands of globalisation and intensified tourism activities in rural vernacular settlements. While studies in this field often focus on historical centres, research on the distinctive urban and architectural identity of “village development areas” in rural vernacular settlements remains scarce. To address this gap in the literature, a field study was conducted in the vernacular rural settlement of Behramkale, located in the Northern Aegean region of Türkiye. The study explored the continuity of architectural and urban identity and its significance. The research involved a qualitative assessment of primary data obtained through architectural surveys and archival documents collected in 2017 and 2021. Data analysis not only focused on static features of place identity but included dynamic and perceptual features of place identity. Planning policy inadequacies and the implications of top-down decisions on vernacular rural Türkiye are discussed. The key finding from the study highlights the necessity for a more participatory and site-specific approach to preserving vernacular rural heritage’s urban and architectural identity for sustainable development. In this regard, the paper proposes that an identity-based and people-centred approach should be integrated into the policies for the development areas of vernacular rural settlements. This integration aims to preserve the local architectural identity and promote a belongingness community among residents

    Procjena nastavne prakse studenata – budućih učitelja – od mentora i savjetnika (kvalitativna studija)

    The aim of this study was to determine whether student teachers are sufficiently prepared for teaching practice in primary schools. In this study, student teachers\u27 teaching practice in real classrooms was evaluated by using observation and interview methods. For this purpose, interviews were conducted with seven guidance teachers, and each student teacher was observed in the classroom. The results of the study showed that student teachers possess sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge and they are ready for their future profession.Cilj ovog rada bio je utvrditi jesu li studenti dovoljno spremni za učiteljsku praksu u osnovnim školama. U radu su metodom promatranja i intervjua procjenjivani postupci studenata - budućih učitelja - tijekom nastavne prakse u razredu. S tim ciljem provedeni su intervjui sa sedam savjetnika, a svaki je student promatran u učionici. Rezultati su pokazali da studenti posjeduju zadovoljavajuću razinu teorijskih i praktičnih znanja i da su spremni za nastavno zanimanje

    Efficacy of moderate-intensity walking provided feedback by ECE PEDO on abdominal fat in overweight and obese women: A randomized, exercise study

    Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of walking with Equipment for Clever Exercise (ECE PEDO) compared to supervised, moderate-intensity, aerobic, treadmill walking exercise in overweight and obese women. Patients and methods: Between September 2014 and January 2015, 28 women with overweight and obesity were assigned to two groups: supervised treadmill walking (Group 1, n=14) or walking with ECE PEDO (Group 2, n=14). The target heart rate (HR) corresponding to values of 50 to 70% VO2max were determined by submaximal treadmill test. Group 1 was instructed walking at their target HR on treadmill. The number of steps in a min corresponding to the target HR was calculated by a criterion pedometer and Group 2 was instructed walking in this step range recorded to the ECE PEDO giving audible feedback. Before and after a 12-week exercise program, all participants were evaluated by Body Mass Index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC). Ultrasonographic visceral fat thickness (VFT) and ergospirometric VO2max. Results: The VFT decreased in both walking groups in association with reduced WC and weight loss and also significant increases in the VO2max after exercise intervention (p&lt;0.05). The VFT decreased only in women by walking with ECE PEDO compared to the other group (p&lt;0.05). Conclusion: Our study results showed that both moderate-intensity exercise provided by a novel pedometer and supervised treadmill walking showed significant improvements in abdominal obesity and VO2max. © 2017 by Turkish Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

    A Study on Fatty Acid Profile and Some Major Mineral Contents of Sea Cucumber (Holothuria (platyperona) sanctori) from Mediterranean Sea (Turkey)

    This study was carried out to detect the concentration of fatty acid and some major minerals (P, Mg, Na, Ca) in sea cucumber (Holothuria (platyperona) sanctori) obtained from Mediterranean sea (Turkey). In fatty acid composition, the monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) fraction was dominant (14.85%) followed by polyunsaturated fatty acid  (PUFAs, 9.53%) and saturated fatty acids (SFAs, 9.04%). The order of avarega macro minerals concentrations found in samples was Ca&gt;Na&gt;Mg&gt;P. End of the study, the results showed that Holothuria (platyperona) sanctori) obtained from Mediterranean sea (Turkey) has a low amount of major mineral and fatty acid content when compared with other economical sea cucumber species.     VREDNOVANJE PITANJA PISMENOGA ISPITA ZNANJA IZ TURSKOGA JEZIKA PREMA BLOOMOVOJ TAKSONOMIJI

    In this study, it is intended to be determined whether the written examination questions asked in primary schools measure the students’ acquisition about the verbal skills in accordance with the purpose or not; whether the distribution of the written examination questions on the cognitive domain sublevels is balanced or not; and whether the examination questions meet the acquisitions determined in the program or not. Making a number of suggestions in accordance with the results obtained by the taxonomic distribution in the cognitive domain of the written examination questions used in the measurement of the students’ acquisitions about the verbal skills in Turkey, the level of the questions in meeting the acquisitions determined in the program, and determining the teachers’ measurement and assessment competencies. Method:The study has been conducted in 47 primary schools selected from different socio-cultural districts in Kayseri province. The written examination papers of 101 Turkish language teachers selected from the determined schools have been collected. A total of 69 written examination papers have been determined with random method among the written examination paper samples belonging to sixth, seventh, and eighth grades and 603 questions have been chosen for analysis. 603 questions on these written examination papers have been examined with qualitative research approach, document examination method, and scanning technique. The distribution of the written examination questions used in determining the students’ acquisitions about the verbal skills in the cognitive domain sublevels is not balanced.Problemsko pitanje: Namjera ovog istraživanja bila je ispitati ispunjavaju li pitanja na pismenom ispitu u osnovnoškolskom obrazovanju svoju ulogu u ispitivanju govornih vještina u učenika ili ne, je li distribucija pitanja na pismenom ispitu na podrazinama kognitivne domene balansirana ili ne i jesu li pitanja na pismenom ispitu usklađena s predviđenim razinama usvojenosti znanja određenih programom ili ne. Svrha: Svrha istraživanja bila je izraditi niz pridjeloga utemeljenih na rezultatima istraživanja dobivenim uz pomoć taksonomske distribucije u kognitivnoj domeni pitanja na pismenim ispitima te upotrijebljenim u mjerenju razine usvojenosti govornih vještina u turskih učenika, određivanja razine pitanja upotrijebljenih u svrhu postizanja programom određenih razina usvojenosti znanja i određivanja kompetencija mjerenja i ocjenjivanja u učitelja. Metoda: Istraživanje je provedeno u 47 odabranih institucija primarnoga obrazovanja iz različitih društveno-kulturalnih oblasti Kayseri provincije. Prikupljeni su pismeni ispiti 101 učitelja turskoga jezika iz odabranih škola. Ukupno 69 pismenih ispita nasumično je izabrano iz ukupnog uzorka pismenih ispita šestih, sedmih i osmih razreda. Za analizu su odabrana 603 pitanja. Ta su pitanja analizirana uz pomoć kvalitativnog istraživačkog pristupa, metode proučavanja dokumenta i tehnike skeniranja.
