    A comparison of antioxidant capacity and some lipoprotein values in swimmers and sedentary subjects

    Increased oxygen consumption as a result of the exercise also increases the free radical production. These free radicals are neutralized by a defence mechanism consisting of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants. Training can have positive or negative effects on oxidative stress depending on the load and type of the training or the status of the individual prior to it. The purpose of this study is to search the capacity of lipoproteins, total oxidant and antioxidant in swimmers and sedentary subjects. The experimental group were 18 male children with mean age 15,16 ± 0,92 who have been swimming at least for 2 years and exercise regularly 3 days a week and 2 hours a day, as the control group, 18 male children with mean age 15,33 ±1,08 who do not regularly do any particular sports, participated voluntarily in our study. Oxidant-antioxidant measurements were conducted through venous blood samples collected in EDTA tubes on an empty stomach and at rest. Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) was determined through a method developed by Erel (2004) to measure the total antioxidant capacity of the body against the free radicals. Lipid Hydroperoxide (LOOH) determination was specified with a method in which xylenol orange and Fe++ are used (Arab and Steghens, 2004). Total Oxidant Status (TOS) was determined through a colorimetric method developed by Erel (2004). Oxidative Stress Index (OSI) was calculated with the formula Total Oxidative Stress (TOS) / (TAC). Plasma triglyceride, Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, VLDL parameters were measured using Abbot and automatic chemistry analyser (Aeroset, Abbott, USA). For the comparison of the experiment and the control groups, Independent Samples T-Test was applied to compare the independent groups on the SPSS 16.00 statistical package. Statistically significant difference was determined to be p0,05). Moreover, a statistically significant difference was observed between TAC, LOOH, TOS, OSI, TRIGLISERIT and HDL values of the experiment and the control groups (p0,05). It was concluded that total antioxidant and antioxidant capacity of the swimmers’ group was higher compared to the sedentary group. The reason for this difference, we think, is that antioxidant defence mechanisms of the subjects who do swimming are more developed

    Perceptions of school resource officers on juvenile delinquents in schools

    Violence is very common in the schools of the U.S. Therefore, families have suspicions not only about competency of the education but also for safety of their children in the school. While there is a great deal of studies which examined the effectiveness and success of school resource officers in schools, and studies which explore the perceptions of citizens, school administration, and juveniles toward police, fewer studies exploring the perceptions of school resource officers about different issues such as their perceptions toward juvenile justice system, school administration and staff, families of juveniles, and juvenile offenders. Fifteen school resource officers were interviewed in schools in a mid-sized Midwestern city in the U.S.. The researcher was allowed to conduct interview with police officers by Police Department’s approval. The consent forms were delivered to participants which were reviewed and signed by the participants. Purposive sampling method was used by asking Deputy Chief in police department either who has worked or currently working in schools school resource officers. The interviews were digitally recorded. The researcher saved these interviews to the computer and transcribed them into the word processor. Findings revealed that there was no standardized training for school resource officers. Their criterion for using discretion was mostly based on the attitude of the families toward them or toward their children. They perceived minor offenses in schools as ‘gateway’ for future serious offenses. Since the study participants were not randomly selected and the sample size was 15, findings cannot be generalized to all school resource officers in the U.S. However, it is expected that all school resource officers would have common experiences such as use of discretion, problems with school administration, and the prevalence of violence among youth. Thus, this study can provide some insights about the experiences of school resource officers from other States of the U.S. Further research in the area of school resource officers is needed to determine solutions to youth violence in schools

    Understanding the role of self-esteem and fear of negative evaluation in impulsive and compulsive buying

    Impulsive and compulsive buying behaviors have been seen at different rates in different societies and can cause psychological, economic, and sociological problems both individually and socially in the short and long term. Mainly thanks to developing mobile technologies, the internet, and improved economic and financial conditions, consumers can purchase more easily than ever. In such an environment, examining impulsive and compulsive buying behaviors and increasing our knowledge about the factors underlying these behaviors is crucial. In this context, the present study explores the direct and indirect relationships between self-esteem (SE), fear of negative evaluation (FNE), impulsive buying tendency (IBT), and compulsive buying tendency (CBT). With this purpose, data were collected from 356 participants by online survey method with snowball sampling. The data were evaluated via structural equation modeling. Results have shown that consumers' SE decreases FNE and CBT, FNE increases IBT, IBT increases CBT, and SE reduces IBT through FNE

    Hentbol antrenmanlarının 10–13 yaş gurubu öğrencilerin bazı solunum ve dolaşım parametreleri üzerine etkileri

    20 students doing sports average age 12,65 ± 0,98 in the school team of Yunus Emre elementary school of Şanlıurfa and 16 students not doing any sports, average age 11,93 ± 0,57 are, voluntary involved in this study which aims to determine the effect of the training done by the students aged 10-13 in school teams on respiration and blood circulation sytems. The study group consisted of handballer who for at least 2 years had regularly undertaken 2 hours training per day at least 3 days per week . The control group was formed from of similar age who did no sports and led a normal life.Groups Measures for age, height, weight, resting pulse measures, sistolic and diastolic blood pressure measures, vital capacity (VC) in respiration system, force vital capasity (FVC), Force expiration volume (FEV), and maximum desired ventilation (MVV)  values are measured. The findings obtained were studied with SPSS 11.0 statistics programme on PC while the difference between the averages of groups were examined with independent t- test method in the meaningfull ranges from p<0,05 to p<0,01 The differences between groups in terms of age, height, weight and diastolic blood pressure valves are not significant (P>0,05). Significant differences have been detected in resting pulse measures, sistolic blood pressure, valves (p<0,01), vital capacity, force vital capacity and force expiration volume valves, maximum desired ventilation of the group doing sports. (P<0,05) In conclusion, resting pulse measures and blood pressure values of the students who do training in the school teams were found to be lower than those of the students not doing sports and the respiration values VC, FVC,  FEV1 and MVV  higher.Okul takımında yer alan 10–13 yaş arası hentbolcularda uygulanan antrenmanların solunum ve dolaşım sistemine olan etkisini belirlemek amacıyla yapılan çalışmaya Şanlıurfa ili Yunus Emre İlköğretim okulu, okul takımında spor yapan yaş ortalaması 12,65 ± 0,98 yıl olan, 20 öğrenci ile aynı okulda spor yapmayan yaş ortalaması 11,93 ± 0,57 yıl olan 16 öğrenci gönüllü olarak katılmışlardır. Hentbolcular, en az 2 yıldır haftada 3 gün, günde 2 saat, düzenli olarak antrenman yapıyordu. Kontrol grubu sporla uğraşmıyor ve sedanter olarak hayatlarını devam ettiriyorlardı.Grupların yaş, boy, ağırlık, istirahat nabız değerleri sistolik, diastolik kan basıncı ölçümleri, solunum sisteminde vital kapasite (VC) zorlu vital kapasite (FVC) zorlu ekspirasyon hacim (FEV1)  ve maksimum istemli ventilasyon (MVV) değerleri ölçülmüştür.Elde edilen veriler kişisel bilgisayarda SPSS 11.0 istatistik programında bağımsız guruplarda ortalamalar arasında fark bağımsız gruplarda t-test yöntemi ile güven aralığı p<0,05, p<0,01 düzeyinde araştırılmıştır. Gruplar arasında yaş, boy, vücut ağırlığı ve diastolik kan basıncı değerlerinde anlamlı farklılık olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. (p>0,05)  İstirahat nabız, sistolik kan basıncı, değerlerinde (p<0,01), vital kapasite, zorlu vital kapasite, zorlu ekspirasyon hacim ve maksimum istemli ventilasyon değerlerinde (p<0,05) anlamlı farklılıklar saptanmıştırSonuç olarak; okul takımında yer alan öğrencilerin istirahat kalp atım sayıları ve kan basınç değerleri spor yapmayan öğrencilerin değerlerinden daha düşük dolduğu tespit edilirken solunum değerlerinden VC, FVC, FEV1 ve MVV değerlerinin daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir

    The Investigation on Physical Education Teacher Candidate’s Resilience, Tenacity and Motivation Levels

    The main purpose of this study is to examine possible relationships between resilience, tenacity and motivation of physical education teacher candidates. In addition, resilience, tenacity and motivation levels were examined according to class and gender levels. Participants of the study are 154 PE students in Ağrı province. There are 50 female participants and 104 male students. The Resilience Scale adapted to Turkish by Sarıçam et al. (2012). The Tenacity Scale-Short Form adapted to Turkish by Sarıçam et al. (2016) Stability Scale and Personal Information Form were used. To analyze the data, t test, ANOVA, Pearson moment product correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used. 99% p <.01 was taken as confidence interval in the study. According to research findings, there are statistically significant relationships in positive direction among the resilience, tenacity and motivation in the candidates of physical education teachers. When the resilience increases, tenacity and motivation levels also increase. According to gender and class level, resilience, tenacity and motivational stability do not differ statistically. The study can be expanded by adding different sections and classes

    ELAZIĞ-KARAKOÇAN DEPREMİNİN TUSAGA-AKTİF İSTASYONLARINA ETKİSİ

    ELAZIĞ-KARAKOÇAN DEPREMİNİN TUSAGA-AKTİF İSTASYONLARINA ETKİSİÖzetDoğu Anadolu Fay Zonu (DAFZ) Türkiye’de çok sayıda büyük depremlere neden olan aktif fay zonlarından birisidir. Türkiye’de 2009 yılından beri çalışan Türkiye Ulusal Sabit GNSS İstasyonları Ağı-Aktif (TUSAGA-Aktif) bulunmaktadır. Bu ağ depremler neticesinde oluşan deformasyonları belirlemede etkin rol oynamaktadır. DAFZ yakınında, Elazığ-Karakoçan da 8 Mart 2010 tarihinde 6.0 Mw büyüklüğünde Karakoçan depremi meydana gelmiştir.  Bu çalışmanın amacı, TUSAGA–Aktif istasyonlarının verileri yardımıyla Karakoçan deprem merkezine yakın istasyonların yer değiştirmelerin büyüklüğünü ve yönünü belirlemektir. İstasyon verilerinin dengelenmesinde AUSPOS (Australian Online GPS Processing Service) internet tabanlı veri işleme servisi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada Karakoçan depreminden etkilendiği tahmin edilen DAFZ yakınında TUSAGA - Aktif istasyonlarının deprem tarihinden 5 gün önce ve 5 gün sonraki günlere ait dengeleme sonuçları analiz edilmiştir. Karakoçan depremi öncesi ve sonrası 5 günlük sonuçlara göre BİNGÖL (BING) istasyonunda atım tespit edilmiştir. Sonuçlara göre bu istasyonda maksimum kuzey yönünde -8.8 mm, doğu yönünde hareket +9.5 mm,  düşey yönde -19.6 mm tespit edilmiştir. Diğer istasyonlarda belirlenen kuzey, doğu ve düşey yöndeki yer değiştirme miktarları, deprem öncesi hesaplanan standart sapmaların üç katından küçük olduğu için anlamlı bir yer değiştirme olmadığı kanaatine varılmıştır.Anahtar Kelimeler: Karakoçan Depremi, GNSS, AUSPOS, TUSAGA-AktifTHE EFFECT OF ELAZIĞ-KARAKOÇAN EARTHQUAKE ON TNPGN-ACTIVE STATIONSAbstractThe East Anatolian Fault Zone (EAFZ) is one of the active fault zone causing a number of large earthquakes in Turkey. Turkish National Permanent GNSS Network-Active (TNPGN-Active) has been available in Turkey since 2009. The network plays an effective role in determining the deformations caused by earthquakes. Near the EAFZ, on March 8, 2010, the Elazığ-Karakoçan earthquake of 6.0 Mw had been occurred. The aim of this study is to determine the magnitude and direction of displacement of Karakoçan earthquake by means of TNPGN-Active stations data. AUSPOS (Australian Online GPS Processing Service) that is web based data processing system was used to adjust the data of stations. Adjustment results of 5 days before and 5 days after the earthquake date of TNPGN-Active stations near EAFZ, which are estimated to be affected by Karakoçan earthquake had been analyzed. According to the results of 5 days before and after Karakoçan earthquake, displacement was determined at Bingöl (BING) station, e.g.  the maximum displacements of -8.8, +9,5 and -19,6 mm, are in the north, east and up directions, respectively. It is concluded that the displacement levels in the north, east and vertical direction determined at the other stations are not significant since they were three times smaller than the calculated standard deviations before the earthquake.Keywords: Karakoçan Earthquake, GNSS, AUSPOS, TNPGN-Activ

    The effect of job ınsecurıty on the ıntentıon of quıttıng jobs: a research on accountıng professıonals

    Çalışanlardaki işe bakış açıları genel olarak gelir, kariyer ve iş güvenliği şeklinde algılanmaktadır. İş güvenliği, işletme sahiplerinin ve çalışanların farklı beklentileri, beklenen çalışma koşulları, kariyer fırsatları ve ücret güvencesi olarak ifade edilmektedir. İş güvencesizliği ise çalışanların mevcut işinden hukuki ya da hukuki olmayan değişiklikler sonucunda işini kaybetme kaygısının ortaya çıkması olarak tanımlanmaktadır. İş güvencesizliğinin sonuçlarından biri işten ayrılma niyeti; çalışanın çeşitli sebeplerden dolayı işinden ayrılma isteği olarak ifade edilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı iş güvencesizliği algısının işten ayrılma niyetine etkisini Batı Akdeniz Bölgesi’nde muhasebe meslek mensupları üzerinde saptamaktır. Çalışmada frekans, yüzde, standart sapma, korelasyon ve regresyon analizleri yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucuna göre, iş güvencesizliği algısı arttıkça meslek mensuplarının işten ayrılma niyeti de doğrusal ve pozitif yönde artmaktadır. Diğer bir ifadeyle çalışmaya katılan muhasebe meslek mensuplarının iş güvencesizliği algısı yüksek ise, işten ayrılma niyeti ölçeği de orta değere yaklaşmaktadır. Ayrıca muhasebe meslek mensuplarının, iş güvencesizliği algısı işten ayrılma niyetleri üzerindeki etkisi demografik özelliklere göre de farklılık göstermektedir.The job perspective of employees is generally perceived as income, career, and job security. Job security is defined as different expectations of employers and employees, expected working conditions, career opportunities, and payment security. Job insecurity is defined as the concern of employees to lose their jobs as a result of legal or non-legal changes from their current job. One of the results of job insecurity is defined as the intention to quit the job, in other words, the demand of the employee to quit the job due to various reasons. The aim of this study is to determine the impact of job insecurity on the intentions of quitting jobs concerning the accounting professionals working in the Western Mediterranean region. The study frequency, percentage,standard deviation, correlation and regression analyzes were performed. As the conclusion of the study, it was determined that as the job insecurity perceptions increase, the intentions of the accounting professionals to quit their jobs linearly and positively increase as well. In other words, if the professional accountants' perception of job insecurity is high, the intention to quit is approaching the middle value. It is also found that impact of job insecurity on the intention of employees professional accountants change according to different demographic characteristics
