A note on BRST quantization of SU(2) Yang-Mills mechanics
The quantization of SU(2) Yang-Mills theory reduced to 0+1 space-time
dimensions is performed in the BRST framework. We show that in the unitary
gauge the BRST procedure has difficulties which can be solved by
introduction of additional singlet ghost variables. In the Lorenz gauge
one has additional unphysical degrees of freedom, but the BRST
quantization is free of the problems in the unitary gauge.Comment: 17 page
Higher dimensional VSI spacetimes
We present the explicit metric forms for higher dimensional vanishing scalar
invariant (VSI) Lorentzian spacetimes. We note that all of the VSI spacetimes
belong to the higher dimensional Kundt class. We determine all of the VSI
spacetimes which admit a covariantly constant null vector, and we note that in
general in higher dimensions these spacetimes are of Ricci type III and Weyl
type III. The Ricci type N subclass is related to the chiral null models and
includes the relativistic gyratons and the higher dimensional pp-wave
spacetimes. The spacetimes under investigation are of particular interest since
they are solutions of supergravity or superstring theory.Comment: 14 pages, changes in second paragraph of the discussio
Extracting the top-quark running mass using +1-jet events produced at the Large Hadron Collider
We present the calculation of the next-to-leading order QCD corrections for
top-quark pair production in association with an additional jet at hadron
colliders, using the modified minimal subtraction scheme to renormalize the
top-quark mass. The results are compared to measurements at the Large Hadron
Collider run I. In particular, we determine the top-quark running mass from a
fit of the theoretical results presented here to the LHC data
Charged particle production in the fragmentation of quark and gluon jets
Recent results on the total production and angular distribution of charged particles originated from the fragmentation of quark and gluon jets are presented. Experimental studies of the multiplicity as a function of the quark and gluon jet energy, the inter-jet particle flow and the individual fragmentation fucntions are reviewed and compared to expectations from QCD
Clonal hematopoiesis and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: A primer.
Despite current standards of care, a considerable risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease remains in both primary and secondary prevention. In this setting, clonal hematopoiesis driven by somatic mutations has recently emerged as a relatively common, potent and independent risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and other cardiovascular conditions. Experimental studies in mice suggest that mutations in TET2 and JAK2, which are among the most common in clonal hematopoiesis, increase inflammation and are causally connected to accelerated atherosclerosis development, which may explain the link between clonal hematopoiesis and increased cardiovascular risk. In this review, we provide an overview of our current understanding of this emerging cardiovascular risk factor.S
New modelling technique for aperiodic-sampling linear systems
A general input-output modelling technique for aperiodic-sampling linear
systems has been developed. The procedure describes the dynamics of the system
and includes the sequence of sampling periods among the variables to be
handled. Some restrictive conditions on the sampling sequence are imposed in
order to guarantee the validity of the model. The particularization to the
periodic case represents an alternative to the classic methods of
discretization of continuous systems without using the Z-transform. This kind
of representation can be used largely for identification and control purposes.Comment: 19 pages, 0 figure
High precision fundamental constants at the TeV scale
This report summarizes the proceedings of the 2014 Mainz Institute for
Theoretical Physics (MITP) scientific program on "High precision fundamental
constants at the TeV scale". The two outstanding parameters in the Standard
Model dealt with during the MITP scientific program are the strong coupling
constant and the top-quark mass . Lacking knowledge on the
value of those fundamental constants is often the limiting factor in the
accuracy of theoretical predictions. The current status on and
has been reviewed and directions for future research have been identified.Comment: 57 pages, 24 figures, pdflate
A case of Ganglion Mucoid Cyst of the Ulnar Nerve producing combined motor
and sensory deficit is reported. Inthe bibliographic study is possible to do the differential diagnosis
between this specific tumor and the common Ganglia of the tendon sheath. Its origine may
be the neural conjuntive tissue degeneration whit subsecuent endo and perineural tissue
metaplasia, fibroblastic cyst and production of mucoide substance. There are not more than
ten similar cases published in the literature. Its diferential diagnosis and recomended treatment
is presented
